The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) says that taxation of petroleum products like fuel, diesel, kerosenrevenue potential for Nigeria. This is contained in a report PPRA made available to the Ministry of Finance and obtained by newsmen at the conclusion of the two-day National Revenue Retreat in Kano.

According to the Report, PPPRA says the introduction of taxes on petroleum products will supplement the revenue lost due to the fall of oil prices at the international market. It said the revenue potential from taxation of petroleum products was enormous, given the average national daily consumption of the products.

The report from PPPRA showed that the average national daily consumption of fuel was 45 million barrel, diesel nine million barrel and aviation fuel, 1.5 million barrel. The report revealed that there were three different taxes that could be charged which the PPRA’s pricing template did not currently accommodate. These are Highway Maintenance, Government Tax, Import Tax and Fuel Tax.

“Fall in government’s revenue from oil sale receipts and budget deficits in the face of compelling demand has made it imperative that the nation begins to examine the next step in the petroleum downstream business in Nigeria. “Deregulation remains the key to achieving a self-sustaining downstream sector as well as the stimulation of the economic growth and social wellbeing of the populace.

“Environmental tax, consumption tax, fuel tax, VAT, Import and Excise tax, when included in the final pricing of petroleum products provides opportunities for petroleum products to provide direct funds for other sectors,” it said. Also, PPPRA made available to the government, the option of privatisation of refineries as another way for revenue generation. It also suggested that the Downstream Logistics Facilities should also be privatised.

Nigeria is not exporting enough crude to sustain her economy and as said , desperate times call for desperate measures , if we could export and produce enough , we'd have enough revenue , but in some people's warped Logic, It's Ok to blow up pipelines because Buhari called them 5% , It is Ok for avengers to cripple the economy because they are fighting for autonomy


But same set of people come here and rant and wail about how Buhari is making life hard for them ?? Na you do you

So Nigeria now wants to tax petrol it was subsidizing ? They want more money from poor masses who they couldn't provide electricity for but buy petrol to fuel the generators. How do we define wickedness. Moreso, they want more money from already stretched masses to fund their looting in inflated contracts which they may never complete or build to specification. So the diversification of economy is to tax the citizens more ?

The man Buhari never had a midas touch. Instead,anything he touches dies. The man toppled a thrivng economy of Shagari's govt and in 10months reduced to one which the people were now queueing on the streets to receive cups of rice,salt,sugar,garri and other essential commodities to feed.
I blame Nigerians who felt that a man whose last result was First school leaving cert(since its obvious he never made it to write waec) could steer a modern economy like ours to prosperity.

[b]The problem we have is that the only way people in government know how to increase revenue is to ask the impoverished citizens for money. That is why I like the concept of "Entrepreneurial Governance". For God's sake, WEALTH IS CREATED BY CREATING VALUE! Federal and State Governments should STOP hiring Media advisers, SSA New media, SSA print media, SSA electronic media, SSA yeye media. Rather they should engage PRODUCTION ENGINEERS to create VALUE and generate wealth.
If it will take this nation experiencing a full scale recession (to the point that FG cannot pay states and salaries) to do the right thing, so be it. 95% of Governors do not have a clue of how to make their states wealthy except to BORROW and TAX the poor. Can you imagine last time I gave the grand proposal of executing a Technology Park in Lagos to both Osibanjo and also to Ambode. I didn't even ask them to contribute a dime! Just give a moral support shikena! Both refused. This project will give jobs to 50,000 young people. But who cares when hawkers are chased to their deaths by KAI officials?
Truth is that I have resolved to do the project without any single government moral support. So long as I can get 100 youths who are die-hard Achievers.[/b]

We are in a deep s#it with this government. So Nigerians will now have to pay for the shortfall in oil revenue, as if we except the NDA are the cause. Well the are just proposing, but if Nigerians allow this proposal to sail through, then we would be the greatest f00ls that walked planet earth. After buying fuel for #143, diesel #200, kerosene #214, they still want to add tax!! Heartless Bastards!!

2019 should just come around, Buhari and APC seriously need to leave! Let another person try, enough of this rubbish.

Now, this is what is called changeeeee! I don't see any change coming to this Nigeria in the next 20yrs. If tax is been introduced and people don't have choice but to keep buying, the next president will come again and be like the last president increased the commodities the last time and he has no problem with it. He will increase it again and that's how suffering and smiling will continue.

Are these people not tired of the sufferings of the people? Do we all keep quiet till they destroy us? What is happening in this country? Economy down! Lives Lost! Food and Happiness, almost hopeless! Now taxes on Petroleum products which is still exorbitant to the controlling influence of unfair market forces who're working to survive against the non existent policy of a clueless government.
