The people of Oba-Ama village in Okrika, Rivers state -have been in a state of suffering for months now due to the negative effect of oil spillage in the area. A young man Obietonbara Iyo who shared the sad news online alleged that the people responsible for the spillage are working with the soldiers in the region. Read what he wrote below; This is my little island village of Oba-Ama in Okrika,Rivers state Nigeria. I spent my entire day accessing the damage done to the environment by oil spills . The sad thing is; For over three months no one in this community has gone out for fishing, infact there are no more fishes to catch. What's really interesting is that those illegally refining oil in my community that's causing the pollution are working with the Military men deployed to the Area. I'm calling on the government of Nigeria and all well meaning people around the world to please save my community. Please, help me share this until the government send real soldiers to come chase this criminals working with the criminal soldiers deployed to this area Away. And some people are in their state waiting for oil money so the can pay 40 drivers in a LGA with only 2 vehicles. The drivers too are happy God has buttered their bread so they go ahead and reproduce 10 children among 3 wives who all look up to big daddy FG to keep the money flowing. 35 Likes |

This is what Ugandans don't wanna see their own region turned into that is why they keep rejoicing whenever an explosion goes off in the Niger Delta but Wailed endlessly the day same happened in Imo state. Can hardly wait to see the day the chicken twerks back home to roost- would love to see how the Miscellaneous Piglets react. 29 Likes 1 Share |

There is absolutely no reason for the FG to put the oil above the health, safety and environment. Any spill that happens should be cleaned up with immediate effect. The Petro dollars is being squandered by millions away from these communities and you cannot at least clean up the environment. You don't poo where you eat. An agency should be set up, maybe within the NDDC whose mandate is oil spill cleanup. An oil spill occurs, they take samples and keep for investigation to know the source, they clean up the site with no questions asked, and then they charge the culprit company if it can be determined from the investigation, or they spread the fine amongst the operating companies or the royalties from the host community in case of vandalism. There should be a fixed cost of fine per barrel of oil spilled specified. 14 Likes |

mazimee: They people refining the oil illegally are from the community. They pay corrupt soldiers to turn a blind eye. That guy has just put himself in the shooting line of his kinsmen. This is the reason I will never support what the avengers are doing , if you look at this environmental degradation 47 Likes 1 Share |

mazimee:Not anybody can go into an okrika community. Those guys are warlike in nature, even if you have the money , you must use the natives as a front. Let them look inward for the source of their problems. 31 Likes 1 Share |

This is so sad. The community needs to watch over itself by working with security agencies to unmask those who refine oil illegally. These boys live in the community. The government should also put in place a mechanism for ensuring a quick cleanup of polluted communities. The environmental safety of the Niger Delta must be a joint collaboration. 4 Likes |
