u dey miss...but i will not blame u..u perhaps didnt grow up seeing ur folks eat it or didnt grow up in the area of its predominance..one thing i can tell u is if u ever want to try it ..ask dat it shud be made like a pepper sauce fried and serve with new water yam..u will come here and thank me!

Those days in my villa we do use it as substitute for tomatoes and its great.!

Just because it is named after tomato, does not mean it tastes like tomato or will suitably substitute tomato.
People need to taste it to know for sure.

There are fruits named after apples that taste nothing like apples. There are fruits named after pears that taste nothing like pears.
Nigerians need to get accustomed to growing smal home gardens like their grandmothers did. Dont lose the wisdom of the elders.

I can't really tell, but for it substituting tomatoes as stew and soup. I strongly belief it will be of high demand if people get to know.

It is much more sweeter, than the regular tomatoes.

The sweetness is also what limits it use. If you really want it's sweetness, then go ahead and eat it all.

I don't enjoy using it for stew though. However, I have only eaten it twice. Twice, may not be enough to judge it.

Lol..it used the same way you use normal round tomatoes.

Watch the back thoroughly, then slize it horizontally into halves.. You'll see a jellylike red pulp inside it, remove the seeds from the pulp and slize the the rest into a bowl or your blender.. Blend it with red pepper and onions.

Tomatoes is now cheap in Benin city,i don't need this snake tomato.#50 tomatoes is and a small tin of tin tomatoes is enough to prepare stew for three cups of rice.we have many local species of tomatoes in Edo state.

Waoow frontpage already.....well what the op wrote up there is so true and lemme even add mine...
1. it is easy to cultivate as compared to the regular tomato.
2. it is nutritional than normal tomatoes.
3. it is lower in quantity than the regular tomatoes because of it's lower yeilds.

all these statement are facts because i currently have it planted in my backyard and it's even bringing out fruit but not yet ripe for consumption.
and lastly why is it that any thing thats just related to snake is immediately pused to frontpage with the speed of light.
anyway i guess it's all about the traffic and the money for nairaland anyway.

A very nice and edible tomato.we used it when i was very little kid. It has a very good taste after you cook it to dry before frying.

Please eat it now. Na snake Family d tomatoes belong to lol. Everything is all about trying new things. It could be better than d old 1 which has been turned to gold. Once its d new tomatoes is grounded d look will change n it would be cheaper. D Old tomatoes that they ve been increasing d price would be useless at last.
