Moses247:Yes o, the rate don increase but have you all noticed something wierd with FBN money market? The fund size is rreducing drastically. As of; Jan - 92.8bn Feb - 94.27bn March - 93.9bn April - 89.72bn May - 86.08bn June - 71.88bn #between march and april, there was a reduction of 4bn. The most shocking was between may & june. The Funds reduced with a whooping 14.2bn naira. I don't want to agree that people are pulling away their money because of the tight economy. I believe these funds are taken out to help First bank come out of their terrible financial situation........what do yall say? Coz my eyes are on that fund size for now |
Re: Mutual Funds by carpenter(m): 1:38pm On Jul 25, 2016 |
Chukzyfcb: People are pulling their money because it is simply not as profitable as it used to be. With inflation as high as double digits and rates on MMF on single digits, you are actually making a loss on your money. |

carpenter: There is hardly any stock market investments in Nigeria that makes more than inflation except new gold ETF and some floating rate bonds. Read our blog on how to beat inflation on nairametrics, mutualfunds Nigeria dot com or on pro share website |

Naijainvestor: Stock Investments are a function of how much you paid for them....Dangote Flour, Oando, Livestock Feeds have all done well depending on who you are talking to. |

have being trying to post pictures of mutual funds valuation as published on daily business day news paper. if you can get a copy of the 25/07/2016 daily you will see mutual funds valuation, yields where relatively low but hopefully it will change for Q3 and Q4 |
Re: Mutual Funds by ernie4life(m): 2:52pm On Jul 26, 2016 |
find key highlights of the MPC meeting below; • MPR increased by 200bps to 14% • CRR maintained at 22.5% • Asymmetric corridor around the MPR maintained at +200bps and -500bps my opinion last year we witnessed some of the highest yields in mutual funds which could be as a result of MPR being 13%, going by historical experience it is safe to say mutual funds yields for the remaining part of this year may be higher than that of last year. with an increase in MPR comes an increase in rates generally. equity market is bound to bear the loss as most funds will be moved to the fixed income market( equity market performance has an inverse relationship with interest rates) |
Re: Mutual Funds by carpenter(m): 3:57pm On Jul 26, 2016 |
ernie4life: I think we may have better yields than it has been since the beginning of the year but not as good as last year otherwise we would be back to square one. Now, this is just me throwing words around....inflation is high, to curb it you want to raise interest rates...however, interest rates (minimum 30% of MPR) is a function of MPR, so you raise the MPR. Before now, I think we had a few funds that were benchmarked on MPR...I don't think there is one anymore (another of my guesses). So it seems to me there has been a clear dissociation. How instruments that constitute a mutual fund rise will then determine how the funds will do. Now, that was exhausting! 1 Like |
Re: Mutual Funds by Naijainvestor: 5:05pm On Jul 26, 2016 |
ernie4life: This is the worst CBN governor I ever known, when an economy is not doing well, almost in a recession, you do not increase interest rate, you lower it, that was how Ben Benanke got US out of the housing crisis of 2008/2009 Even as the US economy has bounced back, Yellen has only increased rate by 0.25 basis points. When you increase interest rate you kill production and the demand for money falls. Emefiele should have realized that the high inflation rate is a cost push inflation triggered by the currency crisis in Nigeria. The problem with Nigeria is that the company treasurers are so lazy that they cannot research on how to hedge currency exposure. The increases in interest rates will increase finance cost to companies and will translate into higher cost and invariably higher prices and higher inflation Nigerians are in for a vicious circle |

Re: Mutual Funds by Chukzyfcb(m): 10:41am On Aug 03, 2016 |
Naijainvestor:Yes we know that. But the reasonn behind the increased rate was to lure foreign Investors. Remember CBN floated the naira, yet foreign Ivestors refused to enter back. This was the last stunt they could pull. Without Dollars flowing into our economy, the so called production will face crisis because of a high exchage rate. It was a gamble he had to take. The only move to entice FPI (foreign portfolio investors) was to Increase rate, let's hope it works! |

Chukzyfcb: Its when capital mobility of a country is high that's when PFI will be responsive to changes in rates. Our capital market is still not developed enough for that to happen yet. That's what they should work on.... |

Chukzyfcb: Going my the rate in June, does it mean I would have earned 8.16% if I had 100,000 NGN (i.e 8,160 NGN) in the fund at the end of June? Please explain. |
Re: Mutual Funds by Chukzyfcb(m): 6:35pm On Aug 05, 2016 |
feelamong:I'm telling you oh....by next week I'll go down to their office to liquidate my funds. Their online response is too slow. & with 6months t.bills rate @ 18%, ha! When I compare it to the bull shit rate FBN is offering me, I go crazy. I bette cash in now the trend is bullish. |
Re: Mutual Funds by Chukzyfcb(m): 6:39pm On Aug 05, 2016 |
slegerman:What it means is that ; by june u would have earned an 8.16% interest. That 8160 is for one year, divide it by 12months. That's 680naira u'v earned. Its wack. I'll advise you move to treasury bills now the rates are high. Your money will grow @ 22% annually with the current rate in T.bills. That's a massive difference of 14% from the yeye fbn mmf. Infact I no go near this mmf until t.bills rate crash |
