Trouble In Enugu Over Slavery Crisis by Nobody: 11:00am On Jul 28, 2016
NSUKKA—The panel set up by the Enugu State government to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the slavery crises rocking the Alor Uno community in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state was yesterday welcomed with placards by about 2,000 people from Ugbene in the area who asked the state government to approve an autonomous community for them.
Ugwuanyi
The matter in the area reached a peak about three months ago, when the Ugbene people claimed that some of their relations were attacked for passing through a track road meant for the so-called free born in the community and urged the state government to save them from the hands of their alleged tormentors.

The placard carrying members of Ugbene included the youths as well as old men and women, who chanted solidarity songs even as they lamented that they were being discriminated against by the Ejuona people, who they alleged controlled political power.
Some of the placards read, "We are being discriminated against by the Ejuona lords who say we are slaves," "We are attacked on the roads; in our houses for nothing," "Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, save us from destruction by granting us autonomy," "We are meant to be seen and not heard in our own home and community," "In Alor Uno, Ugbene people are not allowed to pass through the same road or buy from the same market with the Ejuonas who have the councillor representing our area, the traditional ruler, the member representing Alor Uno in the state House of Assembly among other positions.
"Governor Ugwanyi, save us from oppression by giving us our own community so that we can govern ourselves," among others.

However, addressing the protesters, the Chairman of the committee, Mrs Sylvia Onwuemelie who led her members to Alor Uno said that they were in the troubled community to see how the problem could be amicably resolved.
Onwuemelie who addressed a large crowd of the people of the area at Alor Uno Community Secondary School, Nsukka, amid tight security lamented over the crises, adding that they would visit everybody who was either injured or had his or her house, vehicle or property destroyed following the crises.
According to Onwuemelie, the committee was composed of eminent sons and daughters of Enugu State who were either retired or serving civil servants who would not dent their name for anything.
"We have read all your memoranda. We are here to see the people who were said to have been wounded or the houses and vehicles which were destroyed. If you were macheted and you have treated yourself. The scares will still be there. We are surprised with the large turnout. Send your representatives to talk to us at Nsukka Local Government Secretariat where we will sit after this fact finding tour," she added.
There were, however, some skirmishes at Afor Alor Uno Market, when some youths were told that the members were taken to a house owned by Mr Euphrem Attama alias Akpaka, who allegedly claimed falsely that his house was destroyed during the crises in the community but some elders reportedly prevailed on them to maintain the peace as a sign of respect for the panel members.

one of the major reason most of these Igbos won't go back to alaibo is because of issues like this, they are scared of being treated as an outcast OSU by their own brothers.
the shameful part is,majority are on nairaland screaming about an imaginary division between Yorubas as Christians and Muslims, while their own villages are on fire.

Osu no longer exists in Igboland. This is a communal crisis where the 1st settlers feel they deserve control of the land ahead of secondary settlers while the later feel they have equal stake.

Op, do you really understand what OSU caste system means?

Wow, the desperation to berate Igbos just got overboard here.

What is the different between this and Ife/Modakeke clashes of yesteryears.?

Stop getting mischievous. They don't need to mention the Osu word.

"In Alor Uno, Ugbene people are not allowed to pass through the same road or buy from the same market with the Ejuonas

How else do you define the osu practice if not by the part in bold.

Why are you crying? Are you an Osu?

Whenever free born is being mentioned within the Igbo society, it should give you an idea what the issue is about.

God bless you. These non freeborns they called OSU in alaigbo were largely the ones denied of food supplied to Biafra during the Nigerian civil war by their fellow igbo and account for most of those killed by starvation. This is kind of injustice they and Ipob should be reporting to the UN, EU and Uganda governments not politically motivated mischief called Biafra soverignity because their preferred candidate lost the presidential election angry

The people of Ughene should shutup and hold their peace. Everywhere in the world, the caste system is being practiced whether transparently or opaquely. It's all this useless Osu that come to lagos, to engage in prostitution and lesbianism. They go as far as having taboo sexual intercourse with Yorubas and even hausas. The Osu custom must be enforced and a clear system of identification should be implored.

And residents of the communities confirmed it. I am convinced to believe that u have a mischievous intention for creating this spurious thread. Am sure your not Enugu base, so desist from peddling lies to be relevant. #they are attacked, for using roads# Just listen to yourself, u can't even create a believable story. Am not surprise though that some pple, or rather some tribe have started to masturbate over the lies the opener is feeding them with.....gullible fellows

You must be the last surviving student of Hitler.

Your theory of sub-humans within the same race and tribe, and your notion on the identification of this sub-humans for better identification within their tribe, merits you the accolade of Best Student.

What obfuscating nonsense!

You would come on social media to spread falsehood and hate speech and yet can muster the temerity to brand someone rude when you were reprimanded for what is patently an irresponsible act.

Dont just get me started...
