Why do you think Umtiti should be the one that is paired with Mascherano?

Umtiti has very similar characteristics with Mascherano and thus wouldn't make sense to pair both in this circumstances. Piqué needs the likes of Mascherano or umtiti, guys who can break play even before it materialises to some good attacking move. Piqué needs someone who is very sharp and technically astute to complement him. So, in this scenario, pairing players with very similar characteristics while they are supposed to be complementing the other pair in relation to what the team needs ain't advisable.

U really think so? I think u av a nice point but I jus feel umtiti isn't experienced. He shud still b benched evn if its just 4 dis season. He needs to learn.

That season was nothing to write home about. Messi? Have you forgotten that was Messi's season to forget? A season he didn't particularly perform to his usual standard, even to trigger comments by some that he isn't interested in football any longer.

I'm not even gonna go over the fact that Neymar won us the only trophy (albeit minor) Martino won. And not to even highlight how Martino sometimes played him out of position. The game against City comes to mind when he was positioned on the right of attack. Plus his injury against Getafe. Bro leave matter...

I am not saying he was great that season, but he wasn't bad. Not comparable to Arda's case at all.

As for Suárez... There is no need to go over that. He did superbly well in his first season. Yeah he had it rough from the get go but also remember when he started he was played outta position (on the right). Plus, he made some important contributions to the team generally albeit just lacking in the goalscoring department. And once that came, it started coming more often. So, despite his slow start, I wouldn't use it as a reference to Arda's case.

Anyway, like yourself, I also hope Arda gets his old self back. It would be handy especially during the second half of the season.

No nah! Mathieu is a LCB, same as Umtiti. Piqué is a RCB, same as Mascherano. But to pair the both of them together (Piqué-Mascherano), Mascherano has to play LCB because of his adaptation. Piqué doesn’t play that position and that's why whenever he is on the field of play, he is always occupying the RCB spot.

Hence, Piqué and Mascherano are the two right foot CBs we have and the rest of them (Mathieu, Umtiti and Vermaelen) are left footed. So you see why Mascherano would ideally replace Piqué and not Mathieu?

Same here bruv... Just an additional attacker (decent one) would have gotten us the treble last season. I so much wished we had Pedro lst season to afford rest to the MSN trio at that tail end of the season.

Well sha, I am hopeful for this new season. I don't see any stopping us this time around. We are well stocked!

I think then we should not have bought him in the first place. We are not looking for someone who will come and learn. We are looking for a very capable and equal to pique and mascherano. Look we have to MSN. I want a barcelona team that would be favourite against madrid, athletico, bayern, juve anytime anyday. Our supremacy should not be against the sevillas, the arsenals, the romas, the psgs of this world. If umtiti is coming to do IT then they better send him back. Just like our midfield where we have 5 world class dudes struggling for 3 slots, we need 3 world class CB vying for 2 slots.

Are they on par? Bar injuries, Aguero is miles ahead. For me, if it's okay to compare Griezmann to Aguero, then it would also be okay to compare him to Suárez.

They (Griezmann and Suárez) aren't mates in any situation, but I am just trying to say it's as odd comparing him against Suárez as it is comparing him against Aguero.

I knew someone would say that. Should your refercence be 2 seasons ago or last season? Lol. Be living in past glory. Athletico madrid practically embarassed us last season. Mascherano is not a centre back, he should stop playing as one! That's the only low point I see with our team. Most big teams in europe have got centre backs with good aerial abilities, as well as defensive abilities of course. For those who misunderstand me, iam not advocating for him to be benched or sold. Iam a fan of mascherano. I always say he is made of steel. He is a destroyer. Infact we have under utilized that man for years! He should join in the midfield contest, and lets get a centre back for goodness sake. Why is it so difficult? I see it as the usual barca arrogance.
