The question is....How did they accumulate the shares...was it by JIJO method or buy , seat and observe mood..in current day Nigeria which stock can stand the test of time without these corrupted individuals hijacking the process

Well they choose stocks to JIJO and stocks to do long term investment.

It's very simple, some companies can last for decades, while some can't last five years.

I remember my uncle buying NESTLE for N100 some years ago. The Dividend alone has given him 100% on his investment, while his share unit price has appreciated.
You can't tell such a man to JIJO with NESTLE.
But he can JIJO with Niger Insurance grin grin grin

. I bought for N20 in 1999 and have received bonus twice. The dividend is about 4.5 times the money used in buying the stock.

This recession is the best time to buy these valuable stocks cheaper.

I'm currently profiling, PZ, Flourmills and WAPCO.

The recession is always a blessing to smart stocks investors.
Guys like Buffet and Gates increase their stakes in companies during the last recession.

Recession is like a reset button for stocks.

Somehow they are cheating investors on nse comparing to happenings in other market. For example listed companies on Ireland stock exchange pays as much as 68Euros dividend on a stock that cost 23Euros to buy while Nigerian stocks especially banks pays peanuts. Most of our companies are not completely truthful with investing public. So why would you JIJO such stocks when your dividend is almost 300% of the cost per units?

CG is too weak in Nigeria, those directors dont give shit about investors as such I dont advise long term. How many investors have the financial muscle to buy coys like Nestle, I rather leave long term investment for the likes of Dangote and Buffet that have the financial muscle.

Why will I wait for peanuts yearly dividend from coys when I can play short term and get the 300% of the same dividend and move excess fund to other investment class.

The bulls for Skye Bank in the weeks ahead won't have break ooo as CBN has stylishly taken over the bank and has it recapitalized with N101 billion... When coded GOVERNMENT officials own a large interest in you, the result is what SKYE will become... Don't rush into Skye oooo as the smart ones are now fully loaded, the remaining units up for grabs is for the runz guys in the market... I will quietly leave Skye when its ripe time and upgrade to something far better... I don't love any stock, I invest to multiply my streams of INCOME... I'm observing and gathering info on my next move @AUGUST...Please, don't follow my path as I don't recommend picks for people, I'm a really big smart guy who knows the game too well... END of QUOTE

Anytime, I read your post, it is like you are discouraging others from the stock market. WITH DUE RESPECT, PLEASE THIS IS JUST A PERSONAL OPINION.

N20000 would have bought 1000 units of Nestle shares in 1999, this 1000 units would have grown to about 2000 units in 2016 valued at about N1.6 million. If the investor had reinvested his dividends like I do the value must have grown astronomically.

N300k will buy a Tokunbo V booth Benz or 15000 units of Nestle shares in 1999. Fast forward to 2016, the V-booth is now a scrap valued at N100k, while the Nestle shares is now 30000 units valued at around N24 million.

You made a very vital point by pointing out the role of CG plays in holding stocks for long term... Most board today are culprits and partners in crime with management in defrauding shareholders/investors of their money...Also, the current management system makes one worry about the safety of one's investment. For instance, using the skye issue, we all saw how the bank was badly managed and had expected EFCC to have rounded up the mgt team and board members if truly investors protection was key to the CBN. Honestly, news and inaction like this makes one have a rethink on buying stock for keep. Another company that fits into this situation is also Oando.

Nevertheless, looking at the listed companies on the exchange only few can pass the test of business continuity and long term shareholders wealth maximization...It has always been said on this platform that one is the manager of is own portfolio...in order words, apply whatever strategy that floats your boat...for me, my strategy is two fold; JIJO and Long term.. I have certain % of my funds allocated for the former to meet immediate funding needs (children's school fees, house bills and fine boy wink)..

First, How many folks can afford to cough out =N=300k in 1999 ? A good short term player make well over =N=50m for same 17yrs period.

I dont think I am willing to stick out my neck for any coy for 17 years, too much risks and uncertainty. Nestle is just one tough -lucky damn stock on the NSE that had consistently performed in terms dividend and cap appreciation.

Honestly, how many blue chip stocks on the NSE can match Nestle performance? Ask those folks that bought FBN around =N=33/Share and still holding, ask those folks that bought UBA at =N=37, ask those folks that bought Oando =N=125/share and still holding .... Ask shareholders of Oceanic, Intercontinental, Cadbury, etc etc etc.

I always smile when some advocate of long term holding always quote Buffet in support of their analysis, Nigeria is a different ball game where coys executive are too greedy & involved in sharp practices. I have learnt to lock my profit as soon as they appear and cut losses as soon as they emerge.

Not totally true.

Just attend NESTLE AGM you will see lots of middle class old men at the meeting.

These men bought NESTLE when it was peanuts, and they refused to leave it alone.

There's still opportunity lower income earner to buy valuable stocks for long-term.

Besides, some smaller shareholders have gained other benefits by forming shareholder associations. Sometimes, coys with good coporate governance constitute committee for various purposes and some shareholders have, somehow, wangled themselves into such committees.
The benefits would be enormous.
There's one man I respect, Sunny Nwosu, in this regard. That man has chopped from various coys
