Lets have a constructive argument about this. If you delay your bid in order to take advantage of higher rates, potentially you are losing money as a result of idle funds sitting in your bank account for two weeks and the longer you wait, the more you lose money. For example, A bid between Mr A and Mr B If Mr A places a bid of 16% for 91 days for N500k (bank charges excluded for all calculations). 16/100 x N500,000 = N80,000/12 months = N6,666/month interest. Over a three month period Mr A's interest is N6666 x 3 months= N20,000. This implies Mr A makes N3,333/ two weeks of investing earlier than Mr B. Mr B places a bid of 17.5% two weeks later after leaving the money idle in his bank account without any interest, even though his interest rate is 17.5% but he is still worse off according to this calculation. 17.5/100 x N500,000 = N87,500/12 months = N7291/month interest. Over a three month period Mr B's interest is N7291 x 3 = N21,187. The difference Mr B's interest N7291 - Mr A's interest N6666 is N1,187 gain for Mr B. But remember Mr A invested earlier and gained N3333. Therefore N3333 - N1187 = N2146. Thereby Mr A made more profit over a 91 days period zamirikpo: 2 Likes |

I was at Stanbicibtc bank today to submit my bid. I am new to ntb, after reading through the post I decided to go with the bank rate. I hope my decision won't back fire. The staff kind of pushed it down my neck to go with bank rate. I know my I still have the option of saying no to them! |

Going with their rate is a wise decision, it is the bank I use too, and I am going with their rate also. Chidieberelex: |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by zamirikpo(m): 9:09pm On Aug 02, 2016 |
@munezo it all depends on the rate, some banks or most banks want to exploit u. I was at my bank today and a marketer was trying to sell 14% for 182 days Tinkin he was impressing me, probably tot it was my first time. But I insisted On 17% for 91days. Though I may not get it but imagine the difference. 17% for 182days is almost certain but he was selling 14%. So it depends. DiamondBank tried to sell 9.5% for 182days in July..... So most banks are there to make money.. ..so be informed before u bid, don't always go with there rate. |

Nigeria to raise nearly a billion dollars in naira treasury bill Lagos - Nigeria plans to raise 245.18bn naira ($773.44m) worth of Treasury bills with maturities ranging between three months and a year on August 3, traders said on Tuesday citing a central bank Treasury bill calendar. The central bank plans to issue 45.18bn naira in 3-month debt, 80bn naira of 6-month paper and 120bn naira of 1-year bills in a Dutch auction, they said. Indicative rates for the auction are 16% for 3-month, 18% for 6-months and 18.5% for 1-year bills, one trader said. The auction's results will be published the day after the sale. Yields on fixed income securities have been rising in recent months with the central bank mopping up naira liquidity to try to lure back foreign investors who sold naira assets following the plunge in the price of oil, Nigeria's economic mainstay. The bank lifted interest rates by 200 basis points last week to 14% to help fight inflation, which hit a 10-year high of 16.5% in June. The central bank was not immediately available to comment. 3 Likes |

Please house help me. If I choose d bank rate, is there any possibility that the bank would give me a lower rate from what they got,in order to make more profits |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Sylverly(m): 3:50am On Aug 03, 2016 |
Why do people still settle for bank rate, when you can comfortably predict a juicy rate from the last stop rate. Have had a terrible experience with zenith bank, going with their stop rate...not until I took the bull by the horn..Gave my rate of 11.5% for 365 when d stop rate was few fraction higher than my bid , In the early month of march..still waiting for maturity. 1 Like |

Sylverly: It depends on your bank bro. People that bank with Stanbic know that there are not perfect but considerate with their ℅ to some extent.. also if you bid for yourself, your bid may not always be successful and if its not you will still have to wait for another two weeks. zamirikpo: Sylverly: It depends on your bank bro.
