Oluwabusobomi:
The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, says it has presented relief items to a group of 800 former Boko Haram members who recently denounced their membership of the group.

The repentant insurgents are currently camped at a military-controlled facility known as Safe Corridor in Gombe State where they are undergoing rehabilitation and de-radicalisation programmes.

NEMA’s director general, Muhammad Sani Sidi, who led other officials to present food and non-food items to the former insurgents, said such handouts would be given every three months, according to a statement released by the agency.

The spokesman of NEMA, Sani Datti, who signed the statement, said the items comprised 410 bags of rice, 400 bags of beans, 200 bags of millet, 200 bags of sorghum, 750 cartons of spaghetti, 50 cartons of Maggi cubes and 810 cartons tomato paste. Others are 101 Vegetable oil in 20 liter kegs, 101 palm oil in 20 liter kegs, 50 bags of salt, 100 bags of sugar, 420 cartons of milk and 420 cartons of milo chocolate.

“The non food items include; 800 pieces of mattress, 500 hundred pieces of blanket, 500 pieces of nylon mats, 1000 plastic buckets, 1000 plastic spoons, 1000 plastic cups 1000, plastics plates, 1000 plastic pairs of slippers, 2000 men’s wear, 63 cartons of bath soap and 1000 bath towels,” said Mr. Datti.

“The food and non-food items was presented to the military for Operation Safe Corridor Programme meant to de-radicalize, rehabilitate and re-integrate eight hundred (800) repented and surrendered Boko Haram insurgents to fast track peace process in the North east.

According to the statement, NEMA’s DG said; “The initiative, which is in line with international best practices allowed those engaged in the fighting to voluntarily surrender and embrace peace so that they undergo rehabilitation’’.

B. M. Shafa,a brigadier general, who coordinates Operation Safe Corridor, said the initiative was designed to de-radicalize, rehabilitate and re-integrate willing and repented Boko Haram insurgents who have come out to surrender to the military, saying the move would quicken the peace process in the North east.

“Between September last year and February this year a good number of Boko haram have come out to surrender,” he added.
He thanked the Gombe State Government for providing the location and giving them all the necessary support.

Many of them are hungry people claiming book haram just for the welfare package from the govt.... Along the line these islamist lost the aim of what they were fighting for. They just succeeded in wrecking havoc in their own land and putting our doubts to rest of them being a very dull and clueless tribe. They spread terror within their own freaking land, that makes them a freaking Terrorist. Nigeria should stand of the idealism of not negotiating with terrorists. If left for me I'll commit all of them to mother earth... angry

Strange government considers a pat on the back as befitting punishment to cap up efforts to deal with those boko haram vampires who have killed countless number of innocent people.

Ex-boko haram murderers get unjustifiable relief, while
Victims of Boko Haram murders get no justice.

Crippling the economy is worse than beheading people?

Thank you for such position. It shows how people reason in this country. Go ahead and equate Boko Haram and NDA. Go ahead and equate people who beheaded thousands of women, children and men; ripped foetuses from off the wombs of their mothers; blew up churches and then mosques; sacked communities; raped and destroyed scores of kid girls, etc, with NDA who are blowing up pipelines just to pass a message to an unlistening FG, albeit the wrong way.

I want to believe you did not understand the gravity of what you wrote up there. Please read it again and have a rethink!

What with calling Boko Haram terrorists, militants? That's devilish wickedness, and an utter disregard for the terror and death they wrecked on people.

Nigeria and hypocrisy are always in a state of active blissful tandem!

God have mercy!

Murderers of thousands are being given relief when they should be incarcerated and sentenced with harsh penalties?

Buhari obviously didn't lose any one close to him to these demons otherwise his spirit of vindictiveness and vengeance wouldnt have been so forgiving.
