masseratti: This is about the basketball players who are amongst the best paid sportsmen in the world. It is the other sportsmen who are broke not the basketball players. The purpose of the games is financial, which is why McDonald's is a main sponsor despite selling junk food. Queens is nowhere near as dangerous as Rio and Ajegunle is easily avoidable. It's clear that you have no idea what you are talking about. |

masseratti: You don't appear to understand the words that you read or those which you write. The poverty rate in NYC is much lower than in Rio where poverty is rife. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/olympics/olympics-2016-the-road-to-rio-gold-is-paved-with-grinding-poverty-10439009.html Basketball players are amongst the wealthiest athletes in the world. Average salary in the NBA: $5,883,681; Median Salary: $3,241,800 http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/players.html That is not sentiment. Income levels in Rio are lower. Infrastructure is worse in Rio and crime is much worse in Rio, it's one of the most dangerous cities on earth: http://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-advice/travellers-stories/being-a-tourist-in-one-of-the-worlds-most-dangerous-cities/news-story/984e1cfd483208801f7552665187d764 But you keep telling yourself otherwise, it's clear that you are not working with a clear deck of cards. Please broaden your reading base because your knowledge of the world is horrendous. |

princeofpeace22: Comments & comparisons like this are totally unfair. The U.S. has been running its own shet since the 18th century, it wasn't always rosy for them too you know? Like they say "Rome wasn't built in a day". If we put in more effort into bettering ourselves, I think we may get their faster. Cheers |
Re: RIO 2016: Where American Basketball Team Will Stay VS The Athletes' Village. by 2kurupt(m): 2:05pm On Aug 05, 2016 |
mmsen: Agreed the other athletes are broke & New York income index far exceeds that of Rio but least you forget it's the same place that hosted a galaxy of stars in the World Cup. You certainly can't say hundreds of professional footballers plying their trade in top leagues were broke azz too. We ain't saying their ain't rich but this is just unnecessary show-off because it's certainly not the first time US basketball stars are going to the Olympics. |

emorse:We've got to stop the poor poverty-stricken thinking in Nigeria, so, you're telling me that living a comfortable life that you can afford is a waste of money? Think about it again and let it sink before you reply bro, lol. Everyone cannot win gold at the Olympic, but check the historic record and let me know how many times the USA won gold. No insult intended, We need to upgrade our thinking to an intellectual one. |

2kurupt:Living a comfortable life you can afford is showing off? Americans don't show off like Nigerians do, check your fact, money and being comfortable bring success. Explain to me how those who are from rich families make it better and faster than those that are not born with silver spoon in their mouths. let's stop hating, if you can't beat them, join them bro,lol |

Deepfreezer: Haters can't stop hating. If all of them get visa to the US today, in 40 years, they are still behind 1 NBA player' income, lol. Stop limiting yourself in Nigeria, and join them if you can't beat them. All they can do is shouting Arsenal, M.United, tell me what they achieve rather than getting a better job that keep them busy, lol |
Re: RIO 2016: Where American Basketball Team Will Stay VS The Athletes' Village. by mmsen: 2:26pm On Aug 05, 2016 |
2kurupt: It happens all the time, at every Olympics. The US basketball players, the tennis players and the high profile golf players get their own, superior accommodation. Usually it's a hotel but there aren't enough good quality hotels in Rio so they've had to charter a cruise ship hotel. I'm not sure how this constitutes showing off. Nor do I can't blame them, the dorms provided are of a low standard. You mentioned the World Cup in Brazil, there were serious concerns pertaining to accommodation during that tournament as well: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2509591/Englands-World-Cup-squad-stay-hotel-overlooks-Brazils-biggest-slum.html |

Shym3xx:How did they become stars?? You simpleton! Do u need a 4year course in "common sense" to know the past determines the future? Is it not by the actions of America's founding fathers? THEIR FOREFATHERS? Now why is naija so messed up that our nations olympians dey struggle see plane enter? Is it not because of the actions of our ancestors with your F00LISH way of reasoning & nigeria's founding fathers? Your fore father sold his brothers and sisters and it's the BUYER you're calling racist? Lmao. Mumu. Sebi the RACIST man's country's basketball team is made up of blacks living large on cruise ship! Decades later. While the offspring of those who weren't sold are complaining of poor funding to olympics. Now PLEASE I BEG YOU (ON BEHALF OF YOUR FUTURE OFFSPRINGS) GO AND ENROL IN ANY ADULT EDUCATION CENTER close to you... your poor reasoning is embarrassing. NB: I WONT RESPOND TO YOU AGAIN... [s] saintdennis:[/s] Lol. Vacuous and obtuse primitive illiterate, you're a gift that keeps on giving and I shall e-slaughter you today. You're lucky I wasn't online yesterday. And I could care less about naij. What have the racist founding fathers who created a country based on white supremacy, without the plights of AAs who make up 100% of the players got to do with NBA superstars who mostly grew up utter poor, in the projects, section 80 homes, and in single parent households due to white supremacy - got to do with superstars who achieved everything based on their sweat, blood, and tears - and saw basketball as their only way out and horned their skills to achieve greatness? That's like saying the founding fathers of naij are responsible for Super Eagles players plying their trade with rich European clubs. Basketball is an American sport and, NBA is the best league in the world and private business entity. All these players became superstars due to their talents and not cos of the country. NBA is owned by private individuals and they're the ones who generate the profits cos the fans go there to see the players, not the owners. So the relationship is symbiotic - no one is doing anyone any favours. Heck, some would even argue that the players are cheated based on the money they generate. Again: what has CISCO sponsoring a yacht for superstars who used their star power to achieve the feat got to do with US' dark history and all the racist slave owners that you listed, you incorrigible bum with bird brain? A lot of stupid, ignorant, and uneducated Nigerian villagers always like to jump out of ya knowledge scope and chat shiit. Dudeweedlmao: pippimp: IRserveMyComent: WhiskeyTangoFox: Mikeiron78: Just as I expected. lol. Its poverty mentality now because Americans are involved right? But you lots will cry out to high heavens when "men of god" and politicians display their affluence brazenly. God dey watch una in 3d. Y'all are yelling comfort but if I may ask, what does it take to be comfortable? A yacht? Whatever happened to five star hotels? Are you aware that that yacht can accommodate about 300 guests? How many players make a basketball team? What happens to other American athletes? Yes they can afford it but I maintain that it is wasteful for a squad of just 12 players and their officials to occupy a luxury facility that can accommodate 300 people COMFORTABLY. 1 Like |

You are comparing poverty rates? are you learned at all? who told you the USA av the least poverty rate in the world? or you think you can compare the leve/standards of living in Nigeria with China, south America and Brazil with Nigeria, let me cool down, hmmmm ilorin has bigger poverty rate than Lagos but Lagos has more crime rate than Ilorin, now let me end this, I have being to Rio, NYC, LA, Pretoria, joburg, Guangzhou, i will name you shops, people that ur Google maps cannot get u, so please if you have never been to rio Before and you take everything you read on internet for it, please keep your peace, Rio Is as big if not bigger than Lagos metropolis, the dangerous places are aa far as Ikeja to Lekki, you can't get there if they don't want you to, Rio Police, mind you they av state police they will shoot u on sight. emorse: Which kain opata yarns you de yarns. Do you even know why they decided to rent a yacht? The accommodations the Brazilians provided was less than adequate because of bad planning. Plus, health personnel are warning countries of the health risks in Rio. Are you even current on what is going on in the world at all? Also, we are not talking about an individual displaying wealth. This is about a nation which is used to a certain level of quality and standard, and would not subject their citizens to anything less. How can you even compare corrupt pastors who enrich themselves to a nation taking care or it's citizens? Which kain thought process be dis na? Na this you see you de hala, wetin you go do when you come here. You go just die from lukuluku. They aren't Nigerians where they have the "every man for themselves and God for us all" mentality. Staying in a yacht is just for "show off" in my opinion. bbdd:My brother. Dem no fit even hear me na. Me I just dey share my opinion with my own people jare. legba1: Point of correction. Not just three times. They've only been beaten once or twice in the history of the Olympics. If they win this one again, it won't be because they stayed in a yacht. crestedguy:Zika virus indeed. Dem no go come out cone play? Emade:Nothing guarantees gold my brother. Not even hard work these days. Ask Portugal about the last Euros. My point is that they could do without such "show off" lifestyle. It defeats the purpose of the games which I think is UNITY/ONENESS. Asides the commercial importance of course. You get my point? 1 Like |

pippimp: First off, I believe we can have a civil convo without sounding insultive towards each other. Second of all, we are talking about the BASKETBALL TEAM here and not the whole USA contingent. Abi others dey stay for their own yachts too? Think am na. 12 people in a luxury yacht that can accommodate 300 people comfortably? Are they more important than the other American athletes? I maintain that they could have stayed in five star hotels ( I'm sure they have those in Brazil) and still enjoy the level of "comfort they so crave. |

mmsen: "there aren't enough good quality hotels in Rio" Did I just read that correctly? C'mon man, Rio de Janeiro is a top holiday destination & that wasn't just a media propaganda. I ain't a Brazilian but I find that statement of yours insulting, discrediting an entire city just to justify your point. So the rest of the US contingent using the Olympic village & lodging at hotels are 3rd class American citizens right? Someone said "Blackman mentality" above and you guys were seeking for his head. I can't say am surprised in all these since almost the entire US basketball team is made up of blacks. |
Re: RIO 2016: Where American Basketball Team Will Stay VS The Athletes' Village. by 2kurupt(m): 7:44am On Aug 06, 2016 |
Mikeiron78: We're not talking about social class nor stratification. The International Olympic Committee already knows that several of these sportsmen are millionaires before approving the Olympic village for use. It's a sports tournament and not some jamboree so all that's needed is the basics. Are you saying the Australian NBA stars that are chilling with the rest of the Australian contingent are dumb or broke? The point is why bring about unnecessary media attention when that's not the main objective why they're there? Come to think of it, how many of the NBA stars were born with a "silver spoon" as you put it? Don't let your sentiments for anything Nigerian blindfold you to think this ain't showing off. Funny how you guys rush to say "hating" in simple argumentation when neither of us are directly connected with the subject matter. |

Mikeiron78: funny how you reason about being successful. That "poverty-stricken" reasoning is why you don't see most black American celebrities remain up there for a long time, not to talk of their entire life. We've seen it time & again of super rich boxers, musicians etc squander their wealth away while their white counterparts remain in the good life & pass it on to the offspring. Have you ever wondered why the top 3 richest men have retained & been shuffling those rich-list positions among themselves? It is called being prudent |
