In as much as I understand what Nef was trying to say, I just joined nairaland today and I got my Visa since 25th July with my personal researches, didn't even know about this thread. I also got d hospital and Dr F through personal research too. I won't wonna fall into same pit after being warned and how am I to research about the Doctors I don't even know?? I believe every1 is here to learn, so pls allow us learn as Lazilly# as possible, other than paying so much and still putting ur life at risk..

Lolz!

Here's how to research.
There's Zocdoc, there's healthgrades. Just input the area you want to deliver and search using obgyns. The names that pop up you can research on each, call the clinic and make informed decisions.

Also, if you have decided to use oakbend just google obgyn doctors oakbend or search on the hospital website for affiliated obgyns.

Better still, invest N1500 recharge card, call the hosp and have them recommend an obgyn the you can research on them online.

Internet has made life easier, unlike one mama that wore bathroom slippers and was looking for hosp everywhr in chicago in the name of researching cheesy

Me don't like all this comment stating Dr F is human as such should be allowed to continue his inhumane service!!!! If I didn't research as some stated, must he also not be diligent??

No problem. It is Dr F that will come and advertise that he doesn't want Nigerian patients again. I even wanted a Dr Rosalind or so as she has the best review among his team, na so he vex that am insulting his expertise.

I happen to be one of the people that had a wonderful experience with Dr F but not withstanding the truth should be said the man is overbooked and I totally agree with new that he is not a spirit and can not be everywhere . If only he start rejecting patients like some docs do then he will be more effective.for me I wanted to use a different hospital and doc but was convinced to use him by my sister that is resident.
Even though I never had any regret using him but I have to say that we have made a thin god out of the man he is not the best doc in Huston neither is he cheapest he is just affordable. Even for those using him must he be the one that must take the delivery? Abeg lets be reasonable the man has a house full of patients and he has a team of doc that work with him if he is not available then other docs can stand in for him and let me share this with you he has some really good docs that are even more thorough than him I saw one of them on my last ANC.she was really good and patient I've forgotten her name but she has an Indian origin for the first time I spent close to 30 mins with a doc she told me the sex of the the babies and the one that is leading all this Dr F never had time to do She happens to have a set of twins too so she told me what to expect the pregnancy was an high risk one and she was able to ally all my fears. I felt very much at home with her and I secretly wish she will be the one to take my delivery.
So mothers lets just pray to God for safe delivery Dr F is not God. After all in the UK midwives are the ones who take delivery not doc they are very good and experienced in our five star hospitals back home how many people get to see the MD. All they do is attach you to a doc and they are only called in if there are complications Abi how many of us using EKO in Naija ever get to see Kuku?
And for those of us planning to sue him abeg no just waste your hard earn dollars to start pressing charges because his absence at your delivery may not be regarded as negligence if he can prove that he had another emergency to attend to. Na the money I get I borrow you so

It's a pity some people are having a bad experience with Dr F.
I has a wonderful time with him and would gladly use him again. Once u met a doctor for d first time and something does not click or ur not comfortable then u need to change d doctor. Work with ur intuition.
One person or d other has had a funny experience with almost every doctor here does not make any one of them bad. Pick ur own, use ur intuition and trust God for d best.

Good day my wonderful e-family.
I ought to have done this at least 3 weeks ago. But for one reason or the other I couldn't write my POE experience on time. But like the common saying goes "better late than never"

I got my visa in December, 2014 for vacation, that's for myself and kids. Hubby already got visa twice then.
However, we were not able to embark on the trip due to sudden changes in hubby's work schedule.

Fast forward to 2015 December, I discovered I was pregnant. So we started making plans for our vacation and to have the baby in the US. (Bro-in-law's wedding was in July too in New York).
To cut the story short, we flew Lufthansa from Abuja to JFK on the 10th and arrived on the 11th of July. I was exactly 34 weeks. I had my fit to fly letter, but I wasn't asked for it at any point of the journey. I also sent the change of intent notification to the embassy like 3 days before my travel date and I got the usual response. The flight was good and so on time. The plane for the Abj-Frankfurt leg was empty, I had about three seats to myself at the back, so I was able to lie down and sleep all thru the journey. The Frankfurt-Newyork leg was filled to d brim. Even though it was a bigger plane. In flight entertainment was very good. The kids had something to keep them busy at every point in time.

We got to JFK around 1:30 pm. The airport was like a crusade ground. Too many planes came in at the same time. We got called by the CPB after queuing for about 2:30 mins, our time with him was short and uneventful. It went thus:

CPB: Hello, can I have your passports?
DH: Good day officer (handed him the passports)
CPB: why are you in the US
DH: For vacation
Me: And childbirth too (I quickly chipped in)
CPB was busy with his computer and the passports so I thought he probably did hear what I said. So I had to ask him again if he heard me say childbirth, he then nodded and answered yes. The next thing was he was already taking DH's finger prints and then mine. Before we knew it, I saw that he was stamping the passports. There's this self automated machine at JFK where you input your details before getting called by CBP. There we declared that we had food and that we wanted to declare our currency, as we were carrying about 26k dollars ( our own personal money was about 10k only, the rest was for some one else?

The CPB handed our passports back to us and directed us to where we would get the currency declaration form. While waiting at baggage claims, a random female officer walked up to me and asked why we were in the US and how long we were staying. I told her childbirth and vacation, she asked how far along I was, I told her. In my mind I thought maybe she would be the one to send me to secondary inspection, but I was wrong. She only wished us the best and told us to enjoy our stay. After getting our luggages and filling the form, the next thing I saw was exit.

Even though I declared that I had food(fish, ogbono, egusi, knorr cubes, crayfish, garri, plantain flour and all), I wasnt sent for secondary inspection, nothing was checked, not even a single document was asked for. JFK is the best POE.

We stayed for the wedding which was on the 23rd of July. The hospital I'm using is in Flint, Michigan. So I arrived here on Monday 1st of August. My first appointment was on Wednesday 3rd. It was awesome.

So this is the first part of the testimony. I'm earnestly awaiting the second part (d arrival of my LO in less that 3 weeks).

Sorry for the long post and once again sorry for posting late.

Hi everyone. I'd appreciate every reply on the question I'm about to ask.

I applied for a UK visa 2wice but was refused. Though they said insufficient fund but I guess it's because I wasn't married. Now I am married and my husband lives and work in the UK. ..he comes home every 3 months sha.

I'm pregnant and intend to go give birth in the US early next year..my question is can my husband be my sponsor as I am not working? Will I be refused based on the fact that I am not visiting the country my husband is? Dou he has some bank documents in nigeria I can tender. Pls help a poor girl.
Thanks

I remember how some people descended on me when I raised the warning flag against Dr. F. It took my friend coming to this forum to narrate her horrible ordeal in his hands before some started believing.

Anyway, I stopped talking. Whatever rocks one's boat! An elderly aunt of mine said something : ' I don't understand why one would cross the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans of this World to the USA just to use a Nigerian doctor, why not use one here?" That was her statement after she heard of my friend's experience in the hands of Dr. F.

I don't totally agree with her but DR.F makes her statement seems right! Do your research thoroughly before you spend on hospitals or doctors who are not worth it!

My wife arrived Houston successfully yesterday. The flight (Emirates) took forever.

Houston POE experience

CBP: Why are you in the US?
Wife: To have my baby and vacation
CBP: Why the US?
Wife: Because i need to access the best Medical care available
CBP: That is what every Nigerian says
Wife: Well, i am speaking from a professional point of view, being a Doctor.
CBP: Meaning there are no good Doctors in Nigeria?
Wife: There are great Doctors in Nigeria but our facilities are not the best.
CBP: Have you contacted any Physician?
Wife: Yes. *attempts to bring out correspondences from her small purse*
CBP: Just had me all the documents with you. Reads through and says 'I see you are using Dr .....' Almost all Nigerians use either him or Dr. ...Have you applied for Medicaid yet?
Wife: started laughing
CBP: Why are you laughing?
Wife: Because i don't need it and besides, it is illegal. I would pay my bills myself.
CBP: How much do you have on you?
Wife: $3k cash, $4k Travel card (PTA) and other credit cards in my local currency.
CBP: Why did your husband not come with you?
Wife: He is very busy. However, my mum came in today with a different flight and she is already waiting for me.
CBP: Stamps wife in for 6 months.

No secondary inspection because she did not carry any foodstuff. She had her mum carry them for her to avoid unnecessary delays.

Thank you guys for all I've learnt here.

Regards

Good evening great mums and mums-to-be, please I would like to ask for your opinions about my passport issue to make my trip smooth.
I got my US visa last year while I was still using my maiden name in my passport. However, I remember vividly that I put my marital name while answering the question of 'Do you have any other name apart from the one on your passport' kind of.
Fast forward, I have a new passport now bearing my marital name but my visa is on the old one.
Thus my question: Do I need to inform the US embassy of this change of name or just go with the two passports and my marriage certificate as evidence?
Note: the visa was issued in UK when I was a student and I used it in December for 2 weeks.

Thanks in advance.

Hi dear, was in the same shoe with you but I sent a mail to the embassy and I got a reply from them to travel with both old and new passport and also with my marriage certificate. But for me I Will also carry my newspaper change of name too. Takia

Distinguished and Eminent TownHall Folks,

Please can you help me with this. This would be my first time flying solo for a missionary journey #BlameItOnTheDollar

US passport issuance requires notarised consent from baby daddy if he's not available at time of passport request.
My questions are specific to birthing in LA:

1- is the notarised consent letter just any letter by hubby on A4 paper and signed+sealed by a lawyer or is it the DS3053 form completed by hubby and notarised by a lawyer?
2- if done using above method (notary public of my choice), is that acceptable in LA? Or must it be the DS3053 notarised at the embassy?
3- what is meant by Notary public? Is it my personal lawyer? Or going to court to sign (like when one goes for an affidavit, etc)...

Biko nu, Nyere num aka oh!
Oga diri unu mma n'aha Jesus!

Hold up! angry

Sorry for your bad experience. I'm also not his fan but we should understand he is a human being. He cannot divide himself na.

People come to Nairaland with no idea where to start from. The first think they see is Dr.F, houston and stop the research there and run with it. They contact him and he accepts, who doesn't like the cash? Both active and ghost members. What do we expect the man to do?
How do we know if there are cheaper hosps out there if we don't rsearch?

If you check this entire thread you will see "who else is going to houston, I'm using Dr F, I'm using Dr F, ' somebody will manage to research another Doc, then they flood there, I'm using Dr.Dre, Dr. Who, Dr. Doolittle. No one wants to take the extra mile.

I think it's a lazy approach and the more we don't wanna work hard for our health, the more the strength of these doctors will fail us.

I used to blame Dr.F before but now, I just blame the herd mentality.

Lemme apologize in advanced if I sound condescending.
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 4 by Zumabeezle: 9:27am On Aug 06, 2016
SlowlybtSurely:
I don't even understand why anyone will make excuses for Dr F's laxity. What is wrong is simply wrong! Whether the mamas that chose to use him are lazy or not doesn't come into play here.

He wasn't forced into accepting these patients and moreover, he is not running a charitable organisation. He is paid handsomely for that job, so he should do it well!

When a Dr is fully booked, isn't it reasonable to stop accepting patients? But no, his greed will not let him.

I'm sure he wouldn't do this to his US patients. He knows most Nigerians wouldn't bother suing his a$$.

Thank you!!!
He is a Doctor. He owes me duty of care! If he doesn't do what he is contracted to do because he is overbooked, then it is HIS FAULT AND HE IS LIABLE. He has a calendar. Why can't he say is is overbooked?
And using greed as a defense? That who would say no to money? That's the most ridiculous excuse ever. Would you deliberately do wrong because you cannot say no to money? Haba! His license certainly doesn't mean anything to him.
If you handle a patient negligently, you could lose your license.
In a case such as this, any lawyer would eagerly accept your case coz its crystal clear that you will win. And Dr F will pay your legal bills after you win the case.

Just seeing all these things makes me so sad. I am not about to bash una Nigerian doctor in America but abeg try and enter health grades and search for someone else.If the location or hospital is your choice, then look for another doctor within that hospital under healthgrades. Some one has admitted that its laziness that causes "she and some people" to go for the easy hospital and doctor so you are on your own tongue

I am in a helping mood now. I have friends that used other doctors in different locations who have given me information on them because they don't fill like joining Nairaland so somebody that knows should tell me how best to post those affordable hospitals here without making it look like advert.
Ps:Na help i dey help oo,those who know me and have read my past posts know where i had my last baby..I have also paid more than 12k for delivery before stumbling on this NL so i don't have business with advert. Hello everyone. Hope we're all having a great weekend. Please I need a clarification. DH once applied for a US visa in 2013. He was supposed to go for a medical tour/conference to be sponsored by the hospital. However, the trip was cancelled by the hospital so DH didn't bother to go for the visa appointment anymore.
Now, he wants to apply for a US visa to assist & witness the delivery of our baby. Do you think his failure to go for his previously scheduled interview will jeopardise things?
Thanks for your anticipated contributions.

P.S: I have a valid US visa which has been used for its purpose and I have notified the consulate about my new intent.

@0 Nnystc, to add to your question, the Ds 3053 I saw on the website will expire this August, can someone still use it after August?
Once either of the parents won't be around you need the DS 3053 form notarized ,not all lawyers are public notary, you need to get a notary lawyer to do it though,i don't know whether California accepts form notarized by lawyer or it must be notarised from embassy.
Please, Bisoye and Njidekachi,we need your clarification. Thanks

Hello dear. Hope you're settling down well. I will also be flying with Qatar later this month. Please which of the Forms did you fill? Saw a medif form and a pregnancy certificate form. Was thinking the medif form was for complicated pregancies.
Thanks.

I printed out the fit to fly n medif form, gave it to my doc to fill n submitted it bak 7days before my trip to Qatar office. Medif form is required if u are 33weeks n above for single uncomplicated pregy n 28weeks for twins.

Nobody should assault my pm oooo.. Just tell me how best to put it out here for public consumption.

I know you are trying to help but at the same time you are not helping by posting details of those 'affordable' hospitals here because:

1. Agents monitoring this thread will take undue advantage of such info and within weeks those hospitals will be 'non affordable' as they will be bombarded with request.

2. People need to make their own findings and discover more hospitals rather than recycling few that has been mentioned here already.

3. Hospitals who charged thousands of $$$$ also need to pay to advertise here just as others are doing.

4. All the info one need to find new hospitals are here already and if you can afford to spend thousands of $$$ to give birth in US but too lazy to do some reading and research then you are not ready yet.

So basically ..please don't paste details of those hospitals here
