I remember using palm cage with a mirror inside to catch birds. What did you use? how did it work? What were its features.

I remember the cage u mentioned, using raffia palm fronds to make the cage with guinea corn, mirror at the other end facing the entrance to the cage and caught bird in a closed partitioned part of the cage. These were meant to be bait anyway.

There is another trap to catch the small rodents, made with a bournvita or other big beverage tins (dekumagolo in Yoruba).

Bro, I would love to talk more about these traps. Need to write an assignment about them. Was very young when myself and my cousins did the palm and mirror trap.

What triggered the cage door to close? How was the trigger connected to the door? How was the door held tightly to the cage after it shut? And any other important info about the trap. Thanks in advance.

ok bro.

The cage door is held very firm/tightly to the cage by a rubber cut from a tyre tube attached to the top corner of the other end.

A thin thread is attached to the door at one end and a small nail at the other end us passed through the back of the cage. at the down below the entrance, a palm frond is lined and the nail punctured the palm frond to hold the opened door in place.

Any bird trying to enter will definitely step on the frond, the nail punctured on the frond becomes released and the door closes on the bird.
