Good day my wonderful e-family.
I ought to have done this at least 3 weeks ago. But for one reason or the other I couldn't write my POE experience on time. But like the common saying goes "better late than never"

I got my visa in December, 2014 for vacation, that's for myself and kids. Hubby already got visa twice then.
However, we were not able to embark on the trip due to sudden changes in hubby's work schedule.

Fast forward to 2015 December, I discovered I was pregnant. So we started making plans for our vacation and to have the baby in the US. (Bro-in-law's wedding was in July too in New York).
To cut the story short, we flew Lufthansa from Abuja to JFK on the 10th and arrived on the 11th of July. I was exactly 34 weeks. I had my fit to fly letter, but I wasn't asked for it at any point of the journey. I also sent the change of intent notification to the embassy like 3 days before my travel date and I got the usual response. The flight was good and so on time. The plane for the Abj-Frankfurt leg was empty, I had about three seats to myself at the back, so I was able to lie down and sleep all thru the journey. The Frankfurt-Newyork leg was filled to d brim. Even though it was a bigger plane. In flight entertainment was very good. The kids had something to keep them busy at every point in time.

We got to JFK around 1:30 pm. The airport was like a crusade ground. Too many planes came in at the same time. We got called by the CPB after queuing for about 2:30 mins, our time with him was short and uneventful. It went thus:

CPB: Hello, can I have your passports?
DH: Good day officer (handed him the passports)
CPB: why are you in the US
DH: For vacation
Me: And childbirth too (I quickly chipped in)
CPB was busy with his computer and the passports so I thought he probably did hear what I said. So I had to ask him again if he heard me say childbirth, he then nodded and answered yes. The next thing was he was already taking DH's finger prints and then mine. Before we knew it, I saw that he was stamping the passports. There's this self automated machine at JFK where you input your details before getting called by CBP. There we declared that we had food and that we wanted to declare our currency, as we were carrying about 26k dollars ( our own personal money was about 10k only, the rest was for some one else?

The CPB handed our passports back to us and directed us to where we would get the currency declaration form. While waiting at baggage claims, a random female officer walked up to me and asked why we were in the US and how long we were staying. I told her childbirth and vacation, she asked how far along I was, I told her. In my mind I thought maybe she would be the one to send me to secondary inspection, but I was wrong. She only wished us the best and told us to enjoy our stay. After getting our luggages and filling the form, the next thing I saw was exit.

Even though I declared that I had food(fish, ogbono, egusi, knorr cubes, crayfish, garri, plantain flour and all), I wasnt sent for secondary inspection, nothing was checked, not even a single document was asked for. JFK is the best POE.

We stayed for the wedding which was on the 23rd of July. The hospital I'm using is in Flint, Michigan. So I arrived here on Monday 1st of August. My first appointment was on Wednesday 3rd. It was awesome.

So this is the first part of the testimony. I'm earnestly awaiting the second part (d arrival of my LO in less that 3 weeks).

Sorry for the long post and once again sorry for posting late.[/quote]

please can you share a copy of a notification of change of intent email you sent to the embassy.

i don't have an idea of how i can go about it.

i would appreciate your response.

Hian!!! Inukwa!! Do you know her before ni? This is looking like a personal attack grin

When my plan was to birth in Houston, I got an accommodation for 500dollars a month. My acquaintance got her friend to rent me a room in her house. So yes its possible to get a decent accommodation for that low.
My current accommodation is for 800 dollars with private bathroom, full kitchen, wifi, 80inch tv with Netflix, hulu and xbox one and most of all, my freedom!

Hi, hope you and your LO are doing fine. I want to ask a quick question concerning this Emirates Lag Abj connection. When u checked ur luggage with Arik air on the leg to Abj, did u have to retrieve your bags and check in again when leaving Abj for Dubai?
I want to gauge how heavy my bags should be as I don't energy for stress. Thanks in advance

Hello MzYemie, yes I did. Sorry for the late response.

Dear Sir/Madam,

NOTIFICATION OF TRAVEL PLAN

I am writing to notify the embassy of my travel plans. I have a B1/B2 visa which was obtained for a family vacation, and was used for its intended purpose, however I am now pregnant and we have decided to have our baby in the USA.

I have made proper arrangements by contacting a hospital and a doctor in the USA for this purpose and we have adequate finances to cover all expenses.

I understand that my Visa covers for the purpose but would like to request that you kindly update my records to reflect my travel plans.

Kindly advise if there is any other thing I would need to know before embarking on my trip.

Thank you.

sometimes I feel like we r being insulted by comments like that... Cos it means they see us as foolish gullible people or people who can easily be manipulated or dull enough not to see their msgs for what it really is.

Hi,
Used West Houston...was a good experience. Clean Private Postpartum room for you with a couch that doubles up as a bed for hubby. Nice nurses and staff on hand to attend to your needs. Diapers for your LO till you leave. Should your LO need formula...they will also give to you, although they encourage BF and have a lactation expert on ground to help with any issues you might have. Hope this helps.

Just seeing all these things makes me so sad. I am not about to bash una Nigerian doctor in America but abeg try and enter health grades and search for someone else.If the location or hospital is your choice, then look for another doctor within that hospital under healthgrades. Some one has admitted that its laziness that causes "she and some people" to go for the easy hospital and doctor so you are on your own tongue

I am in a helping mood now. I have friends that used other doctors in different locations who have given me information on them because they don't fill like joining Nairaland so somebody that knows should tell me how best to post those affordable hospitals here without making it look like advert.
Ps:Na help i dey help oo,those who know me and have read my past posts know where i had my last baby..I have also paid more than 12k for delivery before stumbling on this NL so i don't have business with advert. Nobody should assault my pm oooo.. Just tell me how best to put it out here for public consumption.

I am nt an expert in this field and lets not rule any possibility, but IMO, her budget maybe low. My monthly estimate for accommodation is about $1500. It all depends on what you want and wat u can manage with.

Pls what do you think the problem is with Turkishair? I know two pregnant ladies that used them in the past week and it was alright. You might want to reconsider considering you can get for as low as $1150.

Its fear o, so that the military wont plan another coup d day i am there. Let me nt download the whole scenario playing out in my mind. Besides the diff btw TurkishAir and Emirates is abt 70k, I can still manage and be observing a fall in ticket price soon. *praying mode*

Hello dear, I was able to pay through Form a at Diamond bank last week.
They claim to give PTA only if you have an xclusive account with them. You can just walk into a branch and make enquiries.

I also went to a Stanbic bank branch and I was told I could pay through Form A too. You can also get there to find out.

Hope this helps.

That your praying mode will get you to buy a #600k ticket if you're planning on travelling next month. Better add fasting to it! However, you should note that the major cause of the exorbitant ticket price is the exchange rate and kids are going back to school next month, so chances of the exchange rate coming down significantly is slim! Do the needful!

I was told it was 310 to $1 as at the last bidding on Thursday morning when I went to Diamond bank. I don't know the current interbank rate at Stanbic bank cos I went there about 3weeks ago.
