I think any mama that wants to invest in car seat( which is supposed to be mandatory if Naija was a sense country), should take time out to read the do's and don'ts. And also baby carriers.
It is mandated that a car seat should be rear ward facing until the baby gets to a certain weight (or can carry his/her neck). This is because if you put a child that cannot carry its neck and you step on your brakes, the child can injure itself from that forward movement.
Same thing for baby carriers, the child should be facing you until a certain weights/can carry his/her neck)

I remember a mama asking about pillows ... the US is kind of big on SIDS( sudden infant death syndrome) and some of the things they preach against are:
1. Shaking the baby either to calm him or out of frustration
2. Pillows and other potential suffocating items in the crib.
3. Co-sleeping with the baby...iv heard people jokingly say they woke up and saw their dh's hand over the baby... that can lead to death of the baby.

When I remember more id share.

Also for SIDS : if you or your partners are smokers... the baby should NEVER share the same bed
This is because of all the particles that get absorbed by your clothing, the baby also inhales.

Also for this Some people also go as far as not letting a smoker carry their new borns.... bros abeg remove ya shirt firsy and use the scrubbing brush wey dey corner baf first.

If your husband or partner smokes he should ensure he at least washes hands before carrying baby and must have a few smoke free shirts that he chnages into before carring baby.

The other is alcohol! Do not share a bed with a baby if you have had alcohol. Especially if you are a heavy sleeper.

The other cause of death can be a duvet! People have mistakingly covered babies heads with duvets when they are sleeping leading to suffocation! So if you must share a bed, discard the duvet.

I believe over heating is another one where we over wrap babies.... vest, onsies, mittens, HATS, and plenty blanket .... newborns cannot regulate their temperatures yet and only loose heat through their heads, so first of all DISCARD the hats when they are indoors.
And the ideal room temperature is 18-21°C. Where only vest, onsies, a light blanket is required for sleep. Anything hotter than that and you start removing articles of clothing
.. colder and you add layers.

Hello Favouredmom, sorry for my absence and silence for a while. my ISP was down and I had no access to internet. Did my anomaly scan last week and all is well, praise GOD! also confirmed sex..we are team BLUE..yeah.. exactly what we have asked GOD for.. so we are eagerly counting down to December..kikiki...We are 19weeks and waddling.. these days, my appetite is a bit low and I have gained about 10kg since I got pregnant. Hopefully I can keep it balanced till delivery time...

Those are the requirements in the GH I registered too... You are not too early as I registered at 14weeks... The last two tests are; VDRL and Urinalysis... All the tests were carried out in the hospital laboratory... One pint of blood was collected frm my DH after screening it...

The difference is that VD is 25k while CS is 63k (excluding charges for drugs)... You'll pay 10k for registration/orientation, 4 small books, 2 bottles of cold-pressed coconut oil and booking... You can see the doctors anytime; I saw the docs 4 times before 12weeks... Then, if I cough or sneeze, I'll go to the hospital... You know *firsttimethings* *Lol*

Lest I forget, vagina swab was carried out to take sample of our discharge on the first visit... We were told that only peeps with issues will be contacted when the results are out... This test is free for first timers...

From experience, I expose my babies to AC but I kit them up to the fullest. Bodysuit +sleepsuit +knit cap+ flannel. With mentholatum rubbed on the chest, back, sides, fingers and feet.

To the colostrum saving, I kinda don't feel so comfortable with saving colostrum from 28 weeks.....storing in freezer. That's like 12 weeks o.
Plus the process of pumping might stimulate contractions.
If your milk leaks, no causes for alarm. The colostrum will still be enough for your baby to be fortified cos the real deal begins with detachment of placenta.

Clean tips with Olive oil and cotton wool. It also heals crack. From 36 weeks, massage the whole breast ( I know it aches like madt but it will save you a lot of headaches )and pull tips while cleaning.

The one that is almost causing fight between DH and I na sleepsuits. Any time I pick up long sleeve coverall he would start shouting ' babe naija is hot oooo, do you want my son to have heat rashes'. Even though iv tried to explain that its only for sleeping especially at night but im thinking, does the baby need to be covered from head to toe? The plan is to always have a mosquito net over his crib and AC regulated to suit his temp.

This is the constant debate i've been having with my mum and pple that visit. Its even tiring. Some say keep him wrapped up all the time cus its better he sweats and develop heat rashes than for him to catch a cold.
Others say don't use fan or AC for him until he's 6months.

I went to visit a friend that put to bed here recently. While the baby is in the hospital, the hospital provides everything you need so all they wore on the baby was a kimono top, diapers, socks, a hat and swaddled him in a blanket. My friend felt the room was too cold and complained to the pediatrician that came to give counseling but the doctor assured us the room temp and baby's get up was ok.
I think babies cry when they are hot abi? It might be better to keep them covered up at night but minimal clothing during the day..... Naija is hot mehn.

Yes dear, we both had Myo's before pregnancy. Im meeting with my surgeon this week to schedule a date but my obgyn said they wouldn't do it before 39weeks.
