profile: Colombia Olympic record: Rio 2016 will mark Colombia's fifth appearance at the Men's Olympic Football Tournament and the country will be hoping to finally deliver on this stage. They went into Mexico 1968, Munich 1972, Moscow 1980 and Barcelona 1992 with high expectations owing to a rich vein of talent in Colombian football in these periods, but did not live up to the hype and failed to progress beyond the first round on each occasion. The Road to Rio: Colombia's path to Rio 2016 can be divided into two parts. First up was the 2015 South American U-20 Championship in Uruguay, where they took second place. After edging through the first group phase with two wins and defeats apiece, they came into their own in the final stage, including drawing with the hosts and thrashing Brazil 3-0 to end up behind only Argentina. Although this runners-up finish was not good enough to qualify directly for Rio 2016, with only the winners going straight through, it did book them a ticket to the intercontinental play-off against USA. The Colombians prevailed over two legs, triumphing 2-1 in Texas after being held 1-1 in Barranquilla. Several members of the aforementioned U-20 side, such as Jarlan Barrera and Rafael Santos Borre, played their part in getting the job done, while Juan Fernando Quintero and Roger Martinez were particularly influential among the older heads involved. Former stars Gustavo Santa (1968), Willington Ortiz (1972), Radamel Garcia, Alexis Garcia (both 1980), Faustino Asprilla, Ivan Valenciano, Victor Hugo Aristizabal (all 1992). The stat 3 – The number of wins Colombia have managed in their 12 Men's Olympic Football Tournament games to date.

Mediapace:Brazil have not been spectacular so far . They even drew with Iraq recently and currently occupying 2nd position in their group behind Denmark. And reports shows that they have never won the Olympic male football gold medal. So I believe with God's support, they should be praying they don't meet us now. 19 Likes 1 Share |

Olympics: Nigeria to meet Neymar's Brazil in quarter-finals Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Sweden means they have sealed qualification to the quarter-finals of the Olympics men's football event and will emerge from Group B as leaders after establishing an unassailable lead at the top of the standings with six points and a +2 goal difference after Colombia's second draw against Japan on Sunday. With their position as group leaders confirmed, Nigeria will face the second placed team in Group A consisting of Denmark, Brazil, Iraq, and South Africa. Although all four teams could still finish as runners-up, hosts Brazil are in second place as things stand and are poised to be Dream Team VI’s quarter-final opponents. This current crop of Brazilian Olympians led by Neymar, are yet to find the back of the net after two goalless draws in their opening games against South Africa and Iraq. With expectations high for the team to win Brazil’s first Olympic football gold medal, Neymar and co have been largely disappointing and should prove ideal opponents for Samson Siasia’s men.... http://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/11252/nigeria-u23/2016/08/08/26318242/olympics-nigeria-to-meet-neymars-brazil-in-quarter-finals?ICID=HP_HN_1 |

On Wednesday Nigeria will come against Colombia in the last match of the group face. Nigeria has already qualified for the quarter finals having won their two other group games 5-4 against Japan and 1-0 against Sweden. However much is still at stack for both countries, Nigeria will want to maintain an 100% record in the group phase as well as try out a number of options. For the Colombians they have everything to play for as they will be seeking their first win at the Olympics having drawn their first two games. 2-2 against Sweden and another 2-2 with Japan. Therefore a win is must for them. And the question is will Nigeria let that happen let’s wait till 11pm Wednesday night to find out Let’s go there.. the head to head of head between Nigeria and Colombia Date Match Result Score Competition 17 Apr 1994 Colombia v Nigeria L 1-0 International Friendly 19 Nov 2008 Colombia v Nigeria L 1-0 International Friendly 30 May 2010 Colombia v Nigeria D 1-1 International Friendly |
