@bolded, while it seems that CIC is taking ages to respond to PGD/PGC applicants, we shouldn't be too quick to hit the "panic" button.

As @hayqinsbFX wrote, the recent PGD/PGC denials (& slow CIC responses) may have nothing to do with conspiracies against PGD/PGC applicants. Something similar happened in July last year where CIC for a while didn't respond to a lot of applicants but when they responded it was a bunch of denials after medicals (particularly for applicants who received medical calls on or after July 17, 2015). These mass denials were not restricted to PGD/PGC applicants, masters applicants were also affected significantly. At the time, many applicants on this thread propounded doomsday theories too but it is now all water under the bridge. So yeah let's relax a little bit.

For obvious reasons, CIC seems to be slow and scrutinizing during rush application periods. It is possible that they received an unprecedented number of PGD/PGC applicants this year and hence they are being more careful before issuing visas to said applicants (given the recently worsened Nigerian economy). Nonetheless, they will still issue visas to PGD/PGC applications that have a convincing purpose of visit.

To all my brothers and sisters been delayed, i really feel your pains and i say take heart and try again through Masters just like other gurus have suggested.
Just yesterday or so, i posted about the yearly quota/limit for TRV especially for students, infact due to the high rate of PGC/PGD applications coming from Nigeria and other countries recently, i see CIC cancelling PGC/PGD or bringing a new law that completely prevents foriegners from using that route to enter Canada. The Applications are much...The day i submitted my application VFS the crowed was like a crusade ground.lolz
Those of us still waiting i wish us the best and those who already have a response please move forward and God will help u in ur next application or endervour..Na Master sure pass now.

good morning all, to encourage all PGC/PGD students,i came up with a sourced fact that PURPOSE OF VISIT is as a result of inconsistency in program.you can hardly hear of program inconsistency when it comes to masters or phd applicants.
lemme first quote moniker @favour0011 that said she applied to a college last year which i have read her profile and it happened she applied to HUMBER college and for PROJECT MANAGEMENT program cos from your recent MENG program in Elect/Comp Eng. in UoW ontario i presume you studied Electrical or Computer Engineering or Physics with Electronics.yes Engineers can manage huge projects and they do field work but Project Management as a course is not consistent/related with either Elect/Elect or Computer Engineering.i studied Elect/Elect Engineering and i don't think throughout my 5yrs we were taught anything related to Project Management even as a subject topic sef because i have checked my transcript to be sure in case i have forgotten.in addition, CONGRATULATIONS on your recent TRV with your new program @favour0011

Just like Michv, i am a boisterous, young and energetic, eligible bachelor. That being said i have not really paid much attention to this SOWP thingy. Buh because we are family on this thread, i decided to do some research for you and am sure others will benefit.

HERE YOU GO; TAKE YOUR TIME TO READ THROUGH THIS

Eligibility

Your spouse or common-law partner may apply for a work permit if:
you are a full-time student at:
a public post-secondary institution, such as a college or university or collège d’enseignement général et professionnel (CEGEP) in Quebec

a private post-secondary institution that operates under the same rules and regulations as a public institution, and receives at least 50 percent of its financing for its overall operations from government grants (currently, only private college-level educational institutions in Quebec qualify) or a Canadian private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees

you have a valid study permit or

you have a valid work permit

How to Apply
Carefully complete the application form, Application to Change Conditions, Extend My Stay, or Remain in Canada (IMM1249) as specified.
If information or documents are missing, your application may be delayed. The Document Checklist (IMM5583) in the application kit will tell you what documents to include. Answers can be typed or handwritten (print clearly in black ink).

Photocopies of passport pages for BOTH you and your spouse clearly showing the following:
the passport number

the dates of issue

name and date of birth

the most recent entry stamp

Your current immigration documents (eg. Study Permit, Temporary Resident Visa)
To verify that you are the spouse of an international student, you must include your spouse’s Certificate of Enrollment from the institution. It should specify the following:
program

year of study

full or part time status

Provide proof of financial support (that your spouse has enough money to sustain both of you while studying in Canada) as explained on the application form. Examples of this type of proof would be a stamped print-out from a bank teller with your name and account number(s) which outlines current bank balance(s), a letter of funding, a tuition receipt from the Student Accounts Receivable office if tuition is paid in full, scholarship information, etc.

Include a photocopy of your Marriage Certificate

The processing fee of $150 (CDN), payable online with a credit card, or using the three-part receipt (IMM5401) available in the ISSO

The documentation you provide will be used to establish that your authorization to remain in Canada would not be contrary to the Act. You must provide truthful, accurate information. The information provided may be verified. Processing will stop immediately if you give false or misleading information. It is an offence under section 127 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to knowingly make a false statement on this form.
Application to change conditions, extend my stay, or remain in Canada (IMM 1249)

If you need more space, attach a separate sheet of paper and indicate the letter and/or number of the question you are answering. Your application may be returned or refused if it is not properly completed, or if all of the necessary documents have not been submitted.

Type or print clearly in black or blue ink. If you know your client ID number, print it in the space provided.
Each member of your immediate family (spouse or common-law partner, dependent children) who wishes to remain longer, study or work in Canada must apply for permission to do so. If you all apply at the same time for an extension, each person will not have to submit a separate application form. Instead, fill in one form including your details and those of your immediate family. All appropriate documentation and the required fee for each person must also be included.

“I am applying for”:
If you require only one service, tick the box that corresponds to the service you are requesting. For example, tick box “C” if you are applying for a renewal of your work permit. If you require more than one service and you are using only one application, tick the boxes that correspond to each of the services you require. For example: if you are applying for a renewal of your work permit and for a new study permit, tick boxes “C” and “B” and include the required documentation and fees.

A – Personal information
Surname (family name) and given name(s): Print all names as they appear on your passport or identity document. Do not use initials.
Other names: Print all names you have ever used, including different spellings of your name. Explain what these names are, e.g., ‘Maggie’ (nickname), ‘Smith’ (birth name/maiden name), ‘Leroux’ (former married name).

Citizenship: If you are a citizen of more than one country, enter the names of all countries.

Passport number: If you did not use a passport to enter Canada, indicate the type and number of other travel or identity documents you used to enter Canada. Passports and travel documents must be valid for the duration of your stay.
Country of last permanent residence: Regardless of the time you may have resided in a country, if your status was of a temporary nature (foreign student, guest worker, etc.) it is not your country of last permanent residence. If your country of last permanent residence is the country where you were born, put an “x” in the box “since birth”. Otherwise put an “x” in “since” and print the year that you moved to that country.

Note: If you wish to authorize a Canadian representative to receive correspondence concerning your application, indicate their address in this box and on the form Use of a Representative (IMM 5476).

B – My family members
You must give information about your family members. Family members are your spouse or common-law partner, your own dependent children or those of your spouse or common-law partner and the dependent children of dependent children. A common-law partner is a person of the opposite or same sex who is currently cohabiting and has cohabited in a conjugal relationship with you for a period of at least one year.

Your family member will be considered your dependent child if that child:
A. is under the age of 22 and single, i.e. not married and not in a common-law relationship; or

B. married or entered into a common-law relationship before the age of 22 and, since becoming a spouse or a common-law partner, has
been continuously enrolled and in attendance as a full-time student in a post-secondary institution accredited by the relevant government authority and depended substantially on the financial support of a parent; or is 22 years of age or older and, since before the age of 22, has
been continuously enrolled and in attendance as a full-time student in a post-secondary institution accredited by the relevant government authority and depended substantially on the financial support of a parent; or

C. is 22 years of age or older, has depended substantially on the financial support of a parent since before the age of 22 and is unable to provide for him/herself due to a medical condition.

Children included in the application must meet the definition of “dependent children” both at the time the application is made and, without taking into account whether they have attained 22 years of age, at the time the visa is issued to them. Include them on your application by providing their names and other information in the appropriate space on the application form. Indicate if your family members are currently in Canada.

Important: In order to benefit from provisions outlined in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Regulations for spouses or common-law partners of workers or students, you must provide proof of your relationship and status in Canada. You must provide a marriage certificate and birth certificates for any accompanying family members. If you are in a common-law relationship and your common-law spouse will accompany you to Canada, you must complete the form, Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union (IMM 5409) [PDF]. Also provide evidence outlined on the form to support your relationship.

For each family member, print: Surname (family name) and given name(s): Print all names as they appear on the passport or identity document. Do not use initials.

Relationship: Print the person’s relationship to you – husband, wife, son or daughter.

Passport and expiry date: If it was not a passport which was used to enter Canada, indicate the type and number of other travel or identity documents used. Passports and travel documents must be valid.
