Johnrake69:ok glad you accepted that nigeria is a very poor country. now with regards to paying politicians, we do not pay politicians. politicians steal the money. its a big difference. if politicians were paid what they were really due, there will not be a single nigerian in politics. so dont get it confused. we dont pay them, they steal what they get. |

Slimszy:that one dey sha. But it might also interest u that these players are only playing with their careers, if they boycott d match, d shame would b on Nigeria but their CVs are dented for the rest of their lives. Their club sides might even terminate their contracts. So it's just an empty threat. |

Slimszy:and i repeat, if you threaten to boycott a match that 179 million poor nigerians watch to lift their spirits because they did not pay you some measly dollars ? than you are not patriotic. you are there not for the country but for yourself. politicians will be politicians but you are there for the people not the politicians. cant you see that ? or are you just blind ? 2 Likes |

AlphaCentauri: Aren't our ministers, among whom many are former Govs, Senators, and even our presidents being paid handsomely for working for their country. For your info, football is their work and source of livelihood, they deserve to be paid no matter how rich or comfortable they are. |

Johnrake69: Didn't they know that already? Were they begged to represent us? They went to a training camp to prove and get picked for the Olympic team. I ain't against their protests...they must be paid their entitlements BUT do not embarrass the nation, siasia THAT ONLINE NEWSPAPERS CLAIMED WANTS TO QUIT THE TEAM should tell me WHICH CLUB/COUNTRY WILL HIRE HIM. Seriously i'll like to know? How come it's NIGERIA LEAGUE he keeps seeing work? Let's not fool ourselves NFF national team job is as good as it gets for most of these guys. They have the right to show their anger...but refusing to train? Threatening to abandon match?? That's basically lack of professionalism & commitment (like they DO NOT FEEL THEY CAN BEAT DENMARK?) 2 Likes |

AlphaCentauri: Your reasoning is pathetic and people like you that grease the ego of greedy politicians. So politicians are patriotic when they renege on their promises thereby failing to pay players' allowances? Let's praise the greedy politicians/administrators that fail to pay players' allowances because they're almighty and crucify players who downtool for not being paid. |

tafrica:USE your brain, i repeat, politicians will be politicians, but if you are at the olympics in front of the world and representing 179 million poor people who need this moment of joy in their life to see you succeed, you have to look past salary and go and get the job done. sometimes you just have to do what you have to do despite obstacles. threatening to boycott just shows you are there for the money. no patriotism at all. just money grabbers. 1 Like |

AlphaCentauri: Football is not work, but politics is a work, they're OK to embezzle players' money whl earn their living on football. Have you forgotten these politicians/administrators are also being paid? But NO, they're still justified to embezzle. |

Re: Nigerian U-23 Team Threaten Boycott Olympic Matches Over Unpaid Allowances by Reference(m): 9:48am On Aug 12, 2016 |
AlphaCentauri: It is not a matter of patriotism but of keeping your word, of integrity which is not exhibited by the authorities. If you demand effort without pay, say so from the get go and let those who want it for the money alone drop out before the games. But you cannot keep going back on set rules and agreements and expect things to work out fine. Patriotism is the same thing as selfless service, same thing as chairty work and people who do it know what they are into and are prepared for it. Even God asks you to give with a 'cheerful heart', not with a gun to your head. The government should find the money and pay them immediately. If it cannot afford sports then it should privatise or commercialise it. |

AlphaCentauri: Azzin i'm just seething with rage here, one thing I dislike is anything related to strike and ultimatums. We are a nation of over 160m... 2.5 of every 3 nigerian can play football, you don't get to the olympics and embarrass all of us. This SAME SET OF DISLOYAL MEN WILL STILL COME TOMORROW TO BEG US TO PICK THEM FOR WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS. I love how cameroon disciplined even a whole eto'o. For leading players to embarrass their country over wages. 2years ban! I advocate a 3-year blanket ban for every member of the group causing these problems let's see if they won't roll on the floor begging. 1 Like |

saintdennis:brother, you have said it all. these people need the nigerian national team more than the national team needs them. the sooner they realize that its a privilege and not a right for them to play for a country of 180 million people in front of 8 billion people in the world, the better for them. its the typical naija mentality of money grabbing that is worrying them and most of the commenters in this thread. they cant see pass money. money is god to them. no such thing as honor or glory in their dictionary lol 1 Like |

Emimoney: Bill Gate is just an individual. Our per capita income is a far cry from the western nations you were comparing us with. Nigeria's per capita income is about $2600 when compared with US that is about $55000. London's GDP (731.2billion) is more than Nigeria's GDP ($568.51billion). This means that London is much more productive than the whole of Nigeria. We are poor my brother. In the midst of poverty our leaders still goes ahead to mismanage our little resources. It's really sad. |

Slimszy:give me a team that has boycotted a match and has gone scot free. Well, lemme give u an example. In 2008, Zamfara United were 2 play Gateway FC of Abeokuta in Zamfara, d former Asst Coach of Zamfara was their coach (gateway fc) that tym. Zamfara United were owing their players like 5months salary + allowances, d visiting Coach capitalized on that, 2 of Zamfara United players were given an equivalent of 2months salary by Gateway United coach 2 fix d match, the players went on and missed one penalty each in that match, Zamfara United play draw in that match and discovered later in the night that those players were paid 2 do what dey did. Their contracts were terminated with immediate effect and their matter was reported 2d NFF, the players licence were seized and were relegated 2 playing Street football, that marked d end of their professional football careers. |
