adeyinka09: Depending on what ur degree is with 3.53 u can write GRE score high and be able to get GA . Targeting fall session .... that better than aiming for for a low tuition school . Because however low the tuition is, with this exchange rate that is not smiling. It still amounts to been high 1 Like |

I woke up to see the thread locked so I will reply my mentions here.. @ safex101 I applied for undergraduate Studies so there was no need for me to evaluate My scores or something I think the major requirement for MNSU is to register With EducationUSA Walspring: It was a risk worth taking. But contacting the sevis office was the best thing to do cos I was trying to avoid any problem in future. Things went quite smooth at the office. Well, maybe my age played a minute factor cos she kept on telling her colleague"she's a minor". All the same, God was in control. Thanks for your help! Kenniez26: Their system showed MNSU cos I contacted the fmjee to transfer my receipt to MNSU. The POE officer got to know cos my visa was showing CSUN and I presented the I20 for MNSU. They were particularly concerned about the fact that I came alone all the way from Nigeria . Just like lagosismyhome said and if you are not bold enough do the transfer. After you cross the POE biko! I took the risk, might not work out for someone else. Endowlee,lagosismyhome.. Thank you! I wish applicants in part 10 success and God's favor! 1 Like |

LagosismyHome: From what I have seen so far, the Career Centre organizes a job fair every term. Several companies were around for the last one in Spring- mostly local (headquartered in Frederick) or regional as well as a number of government agencies (law enforcement and military inclusive)- this is understandable as we are in DMV region. I don't have data on the success rates from the fairs though. I might have to make further enquiries on this. 2 Likes |

Possibility is 1/2 but you have to get your admission first. Best![/quote] Thanks for your contribution. I don't want to apply while still here in Nigeria, what do you think the implication would be? |

adeyinka09: If u dont get funding then a budget of 500k is not even possible to run any master program . If ur budget quoted is in naira ..... half of 500 will go into one way ticket.....2 way ticket will gulp all that money self. Another half of that will go into sevis, test, visa and all...so u left with like 200k ...that barely even 1000 dollars. Not possible sir |

I'd like to chip in something here though, Getting a degree in IT does not automatically hand you a job or does not make your job search easier. You still have to work twice as hard or even triple harder than an American to land a gig because your international student and OPT status will be a huge stumbling block. Some emoloyers don't want to hear OPT EAD. Resilience, Luck, Location also plays a huge role in that as well. Like I tell people, I applied to more than a 100 jobs and I have even lost count of the number of interviews I've had. No joke! And I also started my application way early before I graduated. Again, getting a degree in IT is no free ticket to a job (Many of my my classmates who are international students like me are jobless). Make sure you're well versed in the course, take certification courses in IT, try to get an American work experience even if the pay and the conditions are crappy, move to a state that has more IT opportunities and most of all, tailor your resume all the time to fit the job requirements of the job you're applying to (don't submit the same generic resume over and over again, tailor it to suit what skills the job you're applying to requires) and like I said before, try to get that American work experience even if the pay is crappy. And lest I forget, ditch that crappy Nigerian "CV" that has horrible formatting and unnecessary information like Date of Birth, Sex, Local Government Area, Marital Status, Religion and all that crap. Trust me, I have seen tons of Nigerians here trying to get a job with that kind of resume and I just cringe internally. A lot of recruiters like seeing an American work experience on your resume. It opens doors for more opportunities. My first job right out of college was not the ideal one I wanted. But I took it cos I needed the experience on my resume. I got my dream job with all the peeks you can ever think of 6 months later. God help us all. 29 Likes 3 Shares |

My Short travel experience I took off from Lag with Qatar on 11th, 2:30pm Nigeria time. We stopped at Doha and 2 hours after we kicked off to new york. 13 hours journey no be moi moi. They kept giving us food and drinks... Meanwhile pls and pls, when those oyibo FA ask what you want, make sure you hear well oooooo. because I heard rice in what they mentioned I quickly jumped to rice cos I believe nobody can go wrong in making rice not knowing its a vegetarian food. They usually have two foods:one veg and one non veg. And they give you want. I drank enough Juice and cola to compensate their nonsense food. There are thousands of movies to watch. I heard Ethiad dey serve peppersoup(someone should confirm tho) Whoever brought the fear of POE should be flogged and jailed. DO NOT PANIC!!! They don't even have time to drill you cos they know you had a long journey. they are just doing their job. I didn't spend more than five mins with the official. Showed them my passport, 1-20, scanned my finger prints and prolly took my pix and off I went. And America is organized. In fact those people no like stress. Everything was spelt out in the airport. You can't get lost and even if you do, ask question. It was in Naija airport that the search was real but other airports had scanner or so. They didnt use their hands to search our carry ons. Finally going to America was a mixed feeling. I wasn't excited and I wasn't sad either but I just knew it was a "start of something good". 19 Likes |

MsNas: Employers don't want to hear opt work permit, which makes OPT a waste of time. Actually it's more of time for one to think of what to do next and to remain legal in US rather than a period of getting jobs. People should know that foreigner is foreigner. An international student is a foreigner, Americans weigh this well when it comes to hiring anyone. The only field that I've see foreigners getting instant jobs within a month of graduation is nursing and other lucrative healthcare courses. But I don't know if those without green card benefit the same way or not. Also I won't recommend wasting money on healthcare if one knows nothing about chemistry, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology etc or simply lazy to study. Tuition for healthcare fields is damn expensive. 2 Likes |
