Many ppl don't know this!!! If u have about 70plus patients u would write very fast cos u have to document everything. Its patient pressure dat makes us write very very fast. It's a rule dat ur prescription should b legible

When you have to take down hundreds of medical histories and write down hundreds of prescriptions and instructions daily, you learn to write rough. As long as the pharmacist understands it, e no concern you. Only a pharmacist or the nurses/lab scientists have a right to complain.

I didn't get to study medicine(my childhood dream) but I have always been writing like that. When I realised that this was making me loose marks during exams, I had to learn how to write well. But when you compare the handwriting on my exams paper and the one on my notes, you would think someone wrote the exams for me.

After years of writing and re-writing prescriptions repetitively with subjective variations here and there, there is a tendency to sleep-write i.e writing without even looking @ the paper you're writing on hence ...............................

My own personal take though

its simple..in the medical school you do alot of note copying... Bulky notes.. With stupid lecturers dictating fast.. If u see my notes sef you go just dey laff.. Its filled with blank spaces

Not all doctors have bad handwriting. I have seen few cases where the doctor writes neatly.

Exactly my thoughts ... my elder sister who's a medical doctor and medical director writes clearly .

Erm, so when you get to the pharmacy and buy the drugs, won't it be clearly written on the package/container??

According to senior medical doctors, it is as a result of time constraint(school and practise) that
unclear writing style is developed.
I am sure you are aware that legibility is advised while prescribing drugs to
avoid prescription errors ?

Hehehehehehe....yes. Those class of fast writers are always few and their notes are usually hot cakes.

one of the things that causes bad handwritings is that we have a lot to write in a little time
and also hide some things from the patient..
i dont know y people dont believe that

Architects have the best letterings But can have really bad writing when taking notes....

They willingly write those things. Most of their prescription are written in Jargons just to avoid self medication. And self medication is totally against the law
