A doctor once gave a prescription to his patient and after two days he called the patient and this is what followed;

That's not true... It is coz a layman doesn't understand d medical terminologies so they look strange.. E.g
Gutt. CMN. BE qds x 2/52.. U can't have a clue to dis if u are a layman, especially if it were handwritten.

Doctors' handwriting is notoriously bad. But writing badly for a doctor is a matter of survival. In one eight hour shift s/he can write their signature alone fifty to one hundred or more times!

The problem for doctors is the volume of paperwork that needs to be done for each patient encounter. For legal reasons, everything done, found, or instructed, has to be documented prior to discharge. Many doctors eventually realize that most of this paper-trail ends life stuffed in filing cabinets to never be seen again and interferes in what is really important to doctors - seeing and treating patients!

Many also realize that what they write is not intended for the public to see, only for themselves and their peers. As you'll see, the way we write is decipherable amongst us because we know what to look for. And you'll see that illegible doctor handwriting is made not born (how could anyone get through college far less med school writing so badly?).

I prefer dem to telme prescriptions n I write cos most times dey write n Ion drugs n I take dem home...I use overdose....bt ops....dis is funny...I jus laugh today since March 28 2015

All the guys in my class had bad handwriting. Even my courserep which happened to be the best student his handwriting is like that of a nursery one student.. Sometimes I wonder how lecturers mark his scripts.. Even if u sit close to him in an exam you can't copy.. The ladies have better handwriting tho

I agree, most wont look at what they are writing as they ask questions from you. They just keep on scribing illegible words.

They write it on purpose... When I asked My doctor why he writes like that.... He said they were trained to do so...and if any pharmacy is unable to understand it...that I should not buy from them

Only God knows how many people have died from wrong interpretation of Nigerian doctors' oversabi handwriting. In saner climes, doctors even type and print out your fvcking prescription. Na we sabi pass them? Smh.

As you go higher in medicine,the volume of work increases , the lecturers increase their speed of teaching and the students must learn how to jot down notes fast. A doctor sees so many patients with many waiting outside for him or her. Documentation is a must in medicine so the doctor must be fast in writing.
