The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Borno Chapter, on Wednesday said over 18, 000 rice farmers in the state will cultivate their farms in 2016 after four years of insecurity.

The state AFAN Secretary, Salihu Aliyu, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri.

He said that many farmers had returned to their farms as a result of the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

Aliyu, who lamented that the strangulating challenges of insecurity in the state and environs, said insurgency had before now virtually crippled farming activities in the state.

He explained that the association was discussing with government officials on how its members could access part of the N4.9 billion loans to rice farmers under the CBN Anchor Borrower programme.
“We know that 78, 000 farmers have benefitted in Kebbi. We want the same in Borno, we have over 18, 000 rice farmers alone.

Yet we had abundance without them for four years only to be starved by a Government that defeated Bokoharam.

The truth is that hunger and starvation presently felt today is more wicked than Bokoharam?

At least Bokoharam captives are well fed than the ones in IDPs.

Most times, we underestimate or under appreciate tranquility and rest of mind.

Only those that have witness life threatening sicknesses appreciate good health without wealth better.

More power and will to all those that made this relative peace possible.

RIP to the soldiers of valor.

The criminal is just looking for his own share of the loan Buhari is sharing to northern farmers from Niger delta oil.

The success of Nigeria in reducing the shock of oil price crash is commendable and I believe it's all linked to priority given ro agriculture and import regulation. Kudos to Buhari and his team for such feat when other oil dependent countries are gnashing their teeth.

Even the so called agriculture the northerners boast about is HEAVILY dependent on Niger delta oil money. Imagine 4 billion naira being shared to northern farmers, this is in addition to subsidized fertilizers, farm machineries, pesticides, irrigation dams etc all from Niger delta oil money.

Get lost you unrepentant bigot and obdurate hypocrite or better still call Mynd to come and ban me for two month. Evil men.

I think they're trying to reach out to the fg here, Borno is not part of the 14 states the Fg listed to take part in the anchor borrowers scheme.

But still the farmers resolve to resume cultivating their lands is commendable, I hope their request will receive the needed attention.

Kebbi alone received about 17bn. 40bn is set aside for pilots take off(first states).

Incase signs of running out of credit surface, n180 billion is doing press up and waiting.

Other southern states will benefit as well, keep hating and wailing, one day your heart will explode like balloon.

And you don't think that Buhari that said a fight against b/haram is a fight against the north is one of b/haram sympathisers. Tell me while others were in power, what did buhari do in words or action to help end the insurgency? Be sincere please!

because bags of rice were being subsidized for you thru importation doesn't amount to abundance. That was the same thing that happened during IBB's era...

That being said... Sis u even knw that a bag of rice is being sold 12k at the boarder?

Blame the people who decides to sell at 18k!

That's how palm oil too rose.. grin

I guessed it's the dollar too grin
