This info is totally wrong. It is only used in the olympics as far back as I can remember. FIFA has no say in the olympics soccer tournament. The cancelation of single yellow cards in a soccer tournament at the semi final stage only applies to the olympics.

[quote author=Koleman post=48561649] Same thought crossed my mind. Fifa has no say in olympics! That why clubs are not mandated to release players. And i still seriously doubt this news. Except this rule was recently introduced into olympics. Becos even on the match day the commentators and even the match statistics confirmed the yellow cards and those to miss today's match

Pls, FIFA has all the say in both the men and women soccer tournaments in the Olympics. They have the right to make and unmake laws governing the soccer tournaments. Browse online the Olympic soccer tournaments so that u can see the governing body. U can only say that u ar not sure whether FIFA has changed the laws regarding yellow cards in their tournaments and not that FIFA doesn't have the power.

Why is Azubuike's yellow not cancelled? He's the heart of the midfield.
Re: RIO2016: FIFA Cancels Mikel's Yellow Card And Two Others Against Denmark by LordCzar202: 8:48pm On Aug 17, 2016
THE YELLOW CARD IS STILL REGISTERED... JUST THAT THE ACCUMULATIVE EFFECT OF THE CARD DOES NOT APPLY FROM THE SEMI-FINALS. THIS THOUGH DOES NOT APPLY IN FIFA RUN TOURNAMENTS IN WHICH THE OLYMPICS IS NOT ONE OF.

THIS IS NOT A 'NEW FIFA RULE'. THIS RULE ONLY APPLIES TO THE OLYMPIC AND WAS ENDORSED BY THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE (IOC). FIFA OR NO FOOTBALL FEDERATION HAS ANY INPUT IN THE OLYMPIC, IT IS FUNDED, ORGANISED AND GOVERNED BY THE IOC AND THE DIFFERENT NATIONAL IOCs. THAT IS WHY THE BADGES ON THE VARIOUS SPORTING TEAMS ARE THE OLYMPIC RINGS AND THE COUNTRY'S NAME & LOGO.

Icon79:

Sorry but the yellow cards were NOT cancelled because the ref's decisions were biased. The cards were cancelled based on the new FIFA rule. And that's has nothing to do with whether the ref's decisions were fair or biased.

And by the way, the yellow card that bothered me the most in the whole thing was the silly yellow card picked up by Azubike. We need that guy to anchor our midfield against Germany but the slowpoke went ahead and picked up a stupid yellow card in the last game!

FIFA AND THE ORGANISATIONS UNDER FIFA HAS NO INPUT IN GOVERNING THE OLYMPICS.... THEIR ONLY ROLE IS ADVISORY, AND THIS YELLOW CARD SCENARIO ONLY APPLIES TO THE OLYMPICS AND DOES NOT APPLY IN OTHER FIFA TOURNAMENTS. WHY DON'T YOU DO A LITTLE RESEARCH FROM GENUINE SOURCES AND NOT IGNORANT BLOGS. SHIFT YOUR IGNORANCE FROM MY MENTIONS, HAVE YOU SEEN THE FIFA LOGO IN ANY SOCCER TOURNAMENT SO FAR? EVEN NFF LOGO IS NOT ALLOWED ON THE JERSEYS, ONLY THE OLYMPIC RINGS OF THE OIC AND NOIC LOGOS WITH THE NATION'S NAME.

Guy, I don't really think it has reached the level of insults. I never referred to u as an ignorant person so I wonder why u would refer to me as such.
Anyways, saying that the yellow card scenario occurs in only Olympics and no other FIFA tournaments is wrong because it actually applies to other FIFA tournaments too. A popular example is when Michael Ballack missed the finals of 2002 world cup against Brazil because of double yellow cards in previous matches. It continued to happen in FIFA tournaments, but from the link posted here by Gabrielniy it shows that it was changed for world cups sometime ago, so if u are saying that it has also been changed for Olympics so many years ago, I don't think I can prove u wrong. But saying that FIFA has no say in Olympics soccer tournament is where u are wrong. The IOC u mentioned here is the Olympics organising committee which is the authority in charge of composition and general organisation of the Olympics but its functions don't in anyway include making or changing the rules of the game of soccer during the olympics, just as the Organising Committee for the FIFA World Cup is the supreme authority that coordinates world cup yet has no power to make or change rules governing world cup football.

I did the research as u required and these are my findings:

1. The FIFA men tournaments according to FIFA website are:
- FIFA World Cup
- FIFA Confederations Cup
- Olympic Football Tournament
- FIFA U-20 World Cup
- FIFA U-17 World Cup
- Youth Olympic Football Tournament (U-15)
- FIFA Club World Cup
- FIFA Futsal World Cup
- Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup
- FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup

http://www.fifa.com/fifa-tournaments/index.html

2. The FIFA structured tournaments for men according to Wikipedia are:
- FIFA World Cup
- FIFA Confederations Cup
- Men's Olympic Football Tournament
- FIFA U-20 World Cup
- FIFA U-17 World Cup
- Boys' Youth Olympic Football Tournament (U-15)
- FIFA Club World Cup
- FIFA Futsal World Cup
- FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup
- Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA

3. According to Wikipedia:
"In 1914, FIFA agreed to recognise the Olympic tournament as a "world football championship for amateurs", and took responsibility for managing the event. This paved the way for the world's first intercontinental football competition, at the 1920 Summer Olympics, contested by Egypt and 13 European teams, and won by Belgium. Uruguay won the next two Olympic football tournaments in 1924 and 1928. Those were also the first two open world championships, as 1924 was the start of FIFA's professional era."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Cup

4. The link below directs u to the FIFA page on the Olympics website, On that FIFA page, they also talked about the inception of football, beginning of Olympics and men and women Olympics football tournaments.

https://www.olympic.org/international-association-football-federation

Perhaps, u mean that the FIFA website, Wikipedia and Olympics website are all wrong by recognising FIFA where they ought not to do that.
FIFA is not just an advisory body to the soccer Olympics tournament but also the governing body. FIFA is an advisory body to all the country tournaments organised by different confederations eg AFCON yet it isn't the governing body of AFCON and AFCON isn't a FIFA tournament, that's why u can't see AFCON or UEFA EURO among the lists of FIFA tournaments on FIFA website.
Regarding logos on jerseys, I hope u will also conclude that NFF isn't in charge of the Nigerian Premier League when u see no NFF logo on the shirts of Enyimba players during one of their premier league matches.
If the men soccer Olympics tournament is not a FIFA tournament yet they went ahead to list it in the FIFA website (www.fifa.com) as among "FIFA Tournaments" alongside World Cup and the likes, then I would humbly agree with u that both FIFA and I are ignorant.
Thanks.
