i know you can't while pregnant, i will assume it's thus safer to wait till after breastfeeding. besides nausea isn't a sign one needs to be dewormed now.

Try and add pepper to your meals, drink water with a slice of lemon/ginger and then try bitter lemon schweppes to manage the nausea.

it could be malaria for all you care so take a test too!

Hello everyone, how we all doing
Sma is formula, you can start with that and see how your baby copes with it! For cereals there are a variety you can choose from based on his stage and tolerance.

I fed my son solely on sma gold augmented with bm from birth till six months of age before venturing into purees, like blended fruits and veggies with oats, rice, maize, potatoes and wheat.

Just start with formula and if it doesn't satiate him you can offer him pureed meals given with a spoon or via bottle.

If your baby was a preemie(based on the two ages you gave) you should stick to formula for now and wait a bit before adding cereals.
Hope I made sense sha.

He he he he wetin i do na?!

Pele, you don try! E no easy. I wonder how some people manage to do it for longer..

I dont know if his being pre term matters so you will have to check with your doctor first.

For starters what i did was get a pack each of

baby rice ( you know my struggles from previous post),
Aptamil cereal
Cow and gate creamy porridge. All of them the ones from 4 mos.
( aptamil cereal and the creamy porridge already contain milk so its just to add water.)

Then also some cow and gate food jars. Just a few for out and about days or when food inspiration fails me.

To be honest the orisirisi is not that hard and it is waaaaayyyyy cheaper than pouch or jar food!

I started with basic and easy fruits and veg...

■Banana - can be mashed with a fork
■Mangoes - if ripe enough a fork would do but in the early days i used a hand blender to make it eeally smooth
■carrots - boiled or steamed and blended
■avocado - mashed with a fork.
■Sweet potato - boiled and mashed or blended till smooth.
■ripe plantain - boiled and blended

Note for most of these you would need to add a few spoons of water to blend any excess was put in an ice tray wraped in cling film and frozen. If you are using immediately you can use some of babies usual milk.

I did single stuff for like 2 - 3 weeks, then started my mixy mixy. I then take my baby's food out of the main pot before i add maggi, and pepper.

So things like, beans, yam, spinach, amala, poundo, okra were introduced. So that she gets used to the house food. ( as i dont want her to go and get used to cauliflower cheese from hipp and the like meanwhile na amala and yam the rest of us dey chop for house. I cant set myself up for future food drama. My policy is one house - one pot)

If you do a search, there are like one or more pages with various food ideas from different mamas.

If he can hold stuff you can start giving him finger foods duting meal times things like yam, potatoes, soft boiled carrots can be sliced up for him to hold and he will just be there contently sucking the life out of it......

Please do not leave him alone un- supervised with food at any time.

Also i introduced food with a soft tip spoon and water from a cup at mealtimes.....

preemie or not I don't think you should do that o! Could get into their mouth or eyes.
You may mix the metholatum or silver bird with Shea butter or coconut oil and apply.

Liftedhands is spot on oh

Premie, baby, toddler and even adult - metholatum or silverbird has no business in their bath water. Both must never come in contact with the eyes.

If you must add anything into your baby's water, then it should be few drops of dettol or savlon. The only reason for adding anything to a bath water is to kill any bacteria or germs. Dettol/savlon does the job.

Silverbird is basically eucalyptus oil and it must be used with care in babies. Some people even insist it should not be used in babies under 3 months.

Personally, below or above 3 months, it must NEVER be used in any form (on the baby's head for example) undiluted because that oil is very stronggggg. As an adult, inhale it and see for yourself. The only reason why eucalyptus oil or metholatum should be used is to ease the discomfort associated with cold in babies.

Always super dilute with coconut oil or olive oil ( any 'carrier' oil). With eucalyptus oil, use sparingly as a little goes a long way.

With metholatum, get the one specifically formulated for babies as some are milder than others(see attached picture and link). Metholatum is best applied mildly on baby's feet, chest, back and sides to ease any discomfort associated with cough/cold in babies.

@helovesme and liftedhands. Thanks for saving me with did info ooooo. Hmmnn, and I had put a drop in their bath water this mrng and yestday too. shocked. Thank God nothing has happened to then.

Again, do u know when is the appropriate time to have them circumcised? As they are 40eks plus edd and 2months old.

My los poo hard and formed poo, I have tried giving them warm water before bath and sometimes in between meals, yet their poo is hard. Could it be the formula m using, Nan1 or something am not doing right?

Your doctor will check their weight and then decide if they are fit enough to be circumcised. So check with your doctor. Ask for the "ring" method of circumcision as this is the modern method of circumcision and causes the least discomfort.

Since you are giving them warm water and they are still constipated, try going a scoop less when preparing their formula. If no changes, then maybe you should switch formula.

I think liftedhands has mentioned here that SMA gold was best for her son. For me, I have used aptamil from birth till date.

OK ma. I'll check with their ped and also enquire abt the ring method.

A scoop less, won't they be short of nutrients? Cos i measure one level scoop of formula for every 30mil of water. I am suspecting that it may be the bottles I am using. I bought Tommie bottle but noticed the teat was hard , so I got boots, then noticed boots 30mil is less than that of Tommie's.

As for the formula, dh already got a carton of nan1 so I will have to exhaust it before changing formula

Using 1:30, you are already a scoop less so please do not go a scoop less any further. If you read the instructions, you will notice that you are already a scoop less than what's stated on the pack.

Finish this carton then and switch to another brand.

I do not think bottles are responsible for constipation although I do agree that some teats are better than others.

Read online on how to correctly hold a bottle while feeding babies. There's a technique that ensures your babies aren't sucking on air. The bottle must be tilted to ensure the teat is full of milk whilst your babies are sucking.

Sorry @ previous post. With 1:30, you are not going a scoop less. So go a scoop less and see if it works for you. You can do like mum zaynie and increase the number of feeds per day by +1.

Do that for a week or two and if no changes, then switch formula.

For example, right now my son is on between 100ml-120ml but I always use 3 scoops rather than 4 for 120ml or 3+ for 100ml. I have applied the same rule of thumb since birth.

So just use your discretion and amend accordingly. The instructions on the tin is only a "recommended guide" and parents can tweak as they wish.

@momypurity2, hard pop (constipation ) is caused by Nan1. Buying a carton of formula dat u r nt yet certain if baby will react well to it or not is totally wrong. Pls go one spoon less as adviced + water + BM. You can as well try SMA Gold or discontinue Nan1. Babies well being shud be our priority nt money left for me, I will close my eyes n do away with d remains bcoz I can't stand my baby finding it difficult to poop (hrt breaking ).

Mompurity2 try and go a scoop less and see if there are changes also make sure they are taking the milk warm and not cold.

Secondly after feeding offer them like 10 mil of warm water in between before the next meal time and first thing in the morning

Take lots of fruits and water yourself so they can get the benefit from your breastmilk.

I recall now that when I was on iron supplements my son produces hard poo so check your diet and also if you are on any medication that contains iron.

Theres no need to discard the nan1 yet.
