Joe Chinakwe Rearrested For Naming His Dog Buhari, To Appear In Court On Monday by ipreach: 1:36am On Aug 20, 2016
THE Ogun State Police Command yesterday, said it had rearrested Mr. Joe Chinakwe, who named his pet dog Buhari, noting that the suspect would be arraigned in court on Monday. It also stated that Chinakwe, who was earlier released a few days ago, was picked up again based on its belief that the suspect’s action was capable of provoking an ethnoreligious crisis.

Saturday Vanguard had exclusively reported the three-day detention and subsequent release of the 30-year old after the intervention of the Serkin Hausa and President-General of non-indigenes in the state. He was taken into custody after one of his neighbours, who was later found out to be a Nigerien complained that the dog was named after his father, Alhaji Buhari.

It was learned that the prompt intervention of the elders made the complainant to withdraw the case at Sango-Ota Division. Police sources had earlier told Vanguard that upon his release, the father of two, who hails from Ukwunzu in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State and the complainant were made to sign an undertaking not to cause any breach of peace.

In the light of these, the suspect’s arrest yesterday opened another page on the matter that had aroused public interest. However, the state’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen that Chinakwe was rearrested yesterday to prevent the state from being plunged into crisis, adding that the complainant and his sympathisers had threatened to kill the suspect. He further stated that

the suspect was being held at the Criminal Investigation Department of the command, noting that the arrest was done to save Chinakwe’s life. In addition, the Police mouthpiece said the suspect, had confessed that he named his pet dog Buhari and had the name written on the body of the dog. His words: “The man is here with us. He is at the Criminal Investigation Department.

The charge will be prepared here and he will be arraigned at Sango Magistrate Court on Monday. “He is going to court on Monday because what he did was highly provocative.

It can cause an ethnic and religious crisis. We have to be proactive, we cannot fold our arms and allow the state to be plunged into crisis. “In fact, the arrest was made to save the suspect’s life because the complainant and his group have threatened to kill him if he comes back and this may trigger violence”.

Further investigation by Vanguard showed that the Police had not recovered the dog which may likely serve as evidence.

Chinakwe was arrested last Saturday after one of his neighbours complained that he named the dog after his father, Alhaji Buhari.

Have any Fulani herds man been arrested and charged to court?

Highly provocative indeed.

Those who went on air to call their president. Kindergarten president were not provoking.

We can see through all these.

They also said the arrested him to save his life.

Nonsense.

.....the complainant and his sympathisers had threatened to kill the suspect.....

So a foreigner (Niger republic) threatens to kill a Nigerian citizen yet the Nigerian is arrested instead ? Intrepid. Just the type of blatant rights Libyan herdsmen have over Nigerian farmers where even govt troops provide them with protection smiley

For any idíot who would quote me stúpidly, the mans "offense" is too minor for this nonsense. It's even less than two fighting wahala and could have been sorted out at police station. No judge would be happy to handle this case when his/her docket is filled with more important urgent cases. The Nigerien should rather be arrested for threat to life as attested to by the police authorities themselves

This ugly descendant of Satan should be made a scape goat. He sincerely looks devilish and should be an horror film actor playing the role of a vampire. A lot of money will be saved on costume.

An action as provocative like this one has the tendency to cause a massive unrest and an unprecedented, avoidable and unnecessary bloodshed and as such, should be regarded as an attempted attempt to attempt an attempt to commit genocide.

In the light of the above, the devil incarnate should be sentenced to at least 20 years imprisonment with extremely hard labor without option of fine.

No more more bloodshed in Nigeria. Let peace reign forever in our dear nation.

There we have it, always claiming the victim! Smh. Was there any form of danger towards him in that community before his brainless provocative act of parading a dog named Buhari in a hausa populated area!

It's a straight foward matter, a bloody one at that! Definitely, the Yorubas would hardly ever follow such trend, the Igbos are more likely to keep up with this just as one of them living outside the country has, though to Lai Muhammed. If this brainless incident isn't handled properly now and should more of his bitter(over election loss, ethnicity & religion of the president) fellows follows suite in animalising the president who is Hausa/fulani from the north, the Hausas would react, anyone would(only that they go bloody, easily). We all know how it would turn out so let millions of them follow suite, they would end up endangering the lives of their people living over there in the north. "Nyanga dey sleep, trouble go go wake am". Later dey go dey claim victim! Smh. Not in anyway supporting the possible bloody reaction of the hausas but rather, just stating facts.

I don't just know why some people are professional mischief makers. Why name your pet after someone's father? The easterners have to really get their priorities right. Losing election is not the end of the world. People have moved on, the easterners should learn to move on too. We all know why the lunatic named his pet 'buhari'. Of course he did that just to spark some ethno-religious crisis. And I ask, what will the fool achieve if people are killed because of trivial issues like this?

Everyday drug peddlers{majority of them are from the east}are arrested and prosecuted in various nations around the world. And till date I'm yet to hear anybody from that part of the country addressing such calamity or enlightening his people about the dangers of carrying hard-drugs to other folks nations. People will just focus all their energies on irrelevant things. Now I still ask again, what did the lunatic intend to achieve with this foolishness?

I also heard one other lunatic{residing in USA} have named her pet 'lia Mohammed' and some very sick people were applauding her foolishness. We all know how fragile Nigeria is and how some people tend to protect their religion and what not. What will people achieve by creating unnecessary crisis here and there? People are quick to accuse the northerners of being too prone to violence without accusing or calling out the instigators. Now every sane mind knows that some people will find naming a pet after buhari provocative and the sooner the authorities deal with that lowlifer the better for everyone. In USA people name their pets Lincoln, Washington, Obama etc and everybody flows with it. A neighbor of mine even named her female chihuahua 'Hillary'. But hey, Nigeria is not USA. We are a fragile nation with intolerant people. May God help us

Nigeria is a very useless country. So naming a dog Buhari (which is even an insult to the dog) is a bigger crime than death threats?

We all know you are a clown.

How does giving a dog a name amount to causing ethno religious crisis. That's too shallow

That you feel people should/will be killed because of a name of a dog, shows the kind of persons we live with in this country. How primitive can your northern brethren be to kill because of the name of a dog. It's so unfortunate. Yet you all will want to mystify boko haram and blame GEJ for not killing you all to stop boko haram.

The same North were a president was stoned. If Buhari is stoned in the south, even with how disastrous his administration is, will you be happy with that?

The more reason I don't query those who advocate separation. I still don't know how naming a dog buhari will result to people protecting their religion by killing. We know it will make sense to you.

What's wrong in calling a dog Buhari? Is it against the law? The police have not arrested the budget "Padders",the rampaging herdsmen,Shekau, but here they are raising dust over a man who decides to name his dog with whatever suits him.
