What Are The Benefits Of Believing In God Or Religion To Nigeria? by hahn(m): 4:15pm On Aug 20, 2016
Yesterday, Friday, millions of Muslims also went to mosque to pray to Allah.

Tomorrow, Sunday, will be another day when people from all over the country will go to different churches to "serve God". The Christian god, Jehovah/Yaweh depending on what denomination you belong, precisely. Some Christians even believe that Sunday is not the right day of worship but that is a discussion for another day.

And while in church, different pastors are going to scold members for not coming to church more often or for paying their tithes or for not being close to God and will threaten their congregation with eternal damnation, first class accommodation in hell, poverty, failure, a withdrawal of "security services" by god from witches and wizards or the devil in order to get members more compliant with "the word".

But the question is "what exactly is the benefit of believing in God (especially the Christian and Muslim gods) to an average Nigerian?

Let take a deeper look into this question. Does the belief in "God" or being Muslim or Christian help us:

- Love each other more? Do Nigerians now love each other more despite being enormously religious? I do not think so. From experience, despite the tenets of their religion, theists have not been able to show unconditional love for each other. In fact, the gap seems to get wider with each day.

Members of RCCG detest members of JW and likewise. Christians and Muslims also show intolerance towards each other. Christians are happy with the fact that every single Muslim and any other person who does not believe in THEIR god is going to hell. Same with the Muslims. Christians burn down shrines, label old men, women and children witches and torture them. Muslims recently killed a female Christian pastor simply because she was preaching in the morning. Christians and Muslims keep "house girls/boys aka modern day slaves"(although the bible and quran both support slavery). Christians and Muslims burn thieves without a proper trial and it is even considered a normal thing in our society.

Be more honest? Every single corrupt politician who has ever stolen or looted Nigeria's funds has either been Christian or Muslim and lots of well known men of god have supported these people. As a people, we subscribe to bribery, African time, parents proudly register their wards in "special centers" during national examinations, our civil service in dipped in corruption, we are known worldwide for drug peddling, internet fraud, con artistry and other illegal money making schemes. These people have always proven to be very religious.

Develop our infrastructure? We all know that NEPA/PHCN cannot deliver 24 hour constant power to save their lives. Our health care is in shambles and we have to provide for our own power, water and even road network.

Make us more law abiding? Just take a trip to Kirikiri, at least 98% of criminals there are religious. Same with the corrupt prison warders who care for visiting even though "visiting is free".

Make us a more prosperous nation? Even though Christians and Muslims share a large percentage of the world's wealth

A new study found that more than two-thirds of the world's millionaires are affiliated with a religion, with more than half identified as Christians.

Religious nations are also among the world's poorest. Aside from the US. How ironic? undecided

Citizens from wealthy nations are less likely than citizens from poor nations to see religion as an important role in their daily lives, according to a recent report from The Pew Research Center.

But the United States, the world's wealthiest country, is a bit of an outlier. Americans also believe religion is an important part of daily life.

Source: http://national.deseretnews.com/article/3778/data-you-cant-ignore-the-more-wealthy-a-nation-the-less-religious-it-is-except-for-america.html

Putting all into consideration, you tend to wonder, why is it so difficult for Nigerians to be more focused, honest, united and loving of each other despite having a church on every street and a mosque at every junction? undecided

And what exactly is the benefit of religion, aside from tithe and offering money, to the average Nigerian?

Mature opinions please.

Religion is what has been holding us together from anarchy. Paradoxically, religion it is that has also been tearing us apart.

Gladly. In as much as a lot of people have thrown this country back to the stone ages in the name of religion, there are still many people who practice true Christianity and Islam. People who pray fervently both day and night for things to get better, for wisdom for those in high places. Also there are those who will never retaliate when provoked, whether Christian or Muslim, because of their strong belief in God and peace. These are some of the little things that has been holding us together since.

The benefits is not for Nigeria. The things of this world will pass and fade. The benefits is that we may serve him and go to Heaven to dwell.

True. I did mention in the write up that "despite the tenets of their religion, theists have not been able to show unconditional love for each other"

People who pray fervently both day and night for things to get better, for wisdom for those in high places.

Prayer is actually useless. But I guess it is the thought that counts.

Also there are those who will never retaliate when provoked, whether Christian or Muslim, because of their strong belief in God and peace. These are some of the little things that has been holding us together since.

And there are also a majority of people who will retaliate at the slightest provocation despite their belief in god. In fact, terrorist groups like ISIS, KKK, the crusaders, Boko Haram are all products of these religions and there are lots of verses in the quran and bible that promote violence in the name of Allah/Jehovah/Yahweh, slavery, underage marriage, pedophilia etc

Notice I am referring to both Allah/Yahweh here. If The muslims are right, all Christians will burn in the Islamic hell and if the Christians are right, all Muslims will burn in the Christian hell.

Let us assume you are right and your god is the true god. How do you feel knowing that millions of people will burn in hell for eternity?

The majority of the clueless political class is either looting funds or praying that things will get better.
Then if Donald Trump says one thing about us, everyone becomes angry.

Please drop religion so we can at least start having 24 hour power supply.

The Bible is proof for those who read without a canal mind. Read it well. Revelations 2:18 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Whosoever will burn must burn.It is not given to us to question this things.

Its just the hypocrisy in us that makes us angry at Donald Trump's statements. Most, if not all, of what he says about Nigeria are facts. Who doesn't know that we rig elections in Nigeria, or that we have destroyed our country and are now spreading to other countries where things are working?

Do you mean the same bible that claims the earth is flat and that god created plants before the sun, that donkeys and snakes can talk, that god had bears murder 40 children simply for insulting Elijah abi na Elisha, that god killed millions of children during a flood, that god burnt women and children up at Sodom and Gomorrah and all other manner of nonsense? Contunu smiley

Whosoever will burn must burn. It is not given to us to question this things.

That is what our slave masters told us. Anything that cannot be or refuses to be subjected to scrutiny is most likely a scam. Think about it wink

It is never man's duty to rule that's why our 'human' leaders aren't doubting that fact.

We have a duty we owe God. That is to serve him. Nigeria, America, Russia regardless of where you're from. It will all fade away.

Nobody should put his country first. Instead, everyone should put his mind on the place you'll spend eternity.

Serve your God in peace or your Allah. Live rightly. Just let go guys. Just let go.

Cheers!!!
