BetaTechnicians:

You seem to be making the scenario unnecessarily complex, the same router in the roas configuration can serve as the dhcp server for all the sub-interfaces because there can be multiple dhcp pool on it, so why do u need to place the pool on another router which would now necessitate the ip helper address?

I have a relating question pardon my ignorance.

I believe that interfaces on a switch is what we put into different vlans. Eg
Vlan 10 voice f0/1-f0/10
Vlan 20 data f0/11-f0/20

the type of IP phones that has two interfaces ( first port goes to switch, second goes to PC)
Which interface are we to connect the IP phones to on the switch.

MOst smb's connect this way, like u said different vlans are assigned but I ask are the phones and pc's using the same ip subnet ,if no how do both devices get the correct ip address from the right subnet assuming a central dhcp server is configured.
Command depends in type of dhcp server. If it's Cisco switch, you will set different dhcp pool for each of the vlans, set the same domain name for each vlans. I believe it will work. Detail is more than this but this is the idea.

BetaTechnicians:

the switchports are trunked right?
During the design of vlans, a port on each access switch is configured as trunks to distribute the different vlans. we use Switch Virtual Interface not ROAS.
The IP-PHONE itself has a mini trunk inbuilt so it knows how to connect to the voice vlan and data vlan.

that means the switch you're using is a layer 3 switch, you can't use SVI on normal layer 2 switches.

same switchport interface but you'll change them from access to trunks.

Oh yes. It is a mega core switch (catalyst something.. )

Beta technician,
There are two ways to setup dhcp depending on the firm.most big companies prefer to use a Windows server to handle dhcp services.this.scenario uses the configuration I put up.
But if u.enable dhcp.services. on the router itself, u.won't need to setup ip helper address.U setup different pools of.addresses for.each vlan, etc.this senrrio is.best wen.U.don't have much uses trust me I. This .

brilliant question. The ports are configured to carry the two vlans.

I think the decision to use either Windows for dhcp or cisco switch / router depends on individuals and sometimes power tussle btw the windows admin guys and network admin guys. Big firms use the two.

you're just repeating what I stated, but why bring windows scenario into a Cisco study?

Firms.use.external.servers to.handle.dhcp.that I mentioned Windows.is.not.strange .the.idea is.to.limit.the services that router performs.to .allow.it.perform.its.core functions.which is routing.I .have encountered such setup so don't.limit urself.to.only.Cisco.device.

Yes bt.like.I stated it is used to shelve load on.the.router so as to allow.router.perform.it's.core.function which is.routing.only.small.Firms.with.small users can.afford.to.load dhcp services on.the.router. U.won't try it in a.large firm .talking.from.experience

this is a Cisco study group that's why you should expect Cisco proprietary related answers, that doesn't mean we are limiting ourselves to it. Majority of those here have their hands on other vendors including I.

True. However processing dhcp requests barely spike up router cpu processor these days with the heavy artillery of ram, cpu and asics pumped into routers.
Reason is more admin related than performance.
