I have come to terms that the rise in the price of staple foodstuffs in the market and I believe it's a sort of economic sabotage by our people on our own people.

The second reason for the government's ban on some food stuff like rice is not only to conserve scare forex but also to encourage local production of food we can easily produce (we spent 1trillion Naira last year on rice, wheat and sugar in 2015).
Now am asking myself what is the rational behind the high cost of food stuff produced 100% in Nigeria? We do not use dollars to import garri, yam, beans and palm oil amongst others. Why should rice produced in Nigeria (with all the stones) cost N120 per cup against the foreign polished ones costing N130? It should not be above N50/cup.
If the government does not act fast then this situation might lead to civil disobedience and the opposition politicians would no doubt hijack it to bring the nation to its knees.

The government should as a matter of urgency carry out pricing mechanism to balance this and also release into the market grains stored. Also the ministries of Commerce and Industry and that of Agriculture should impose penalty on price hikers after coming to terms with proper regulations to handle it.
I would not canvass for imports to be allowed to deal with this because it's a devil we have almost caged and would make nonsense of all our sacrifice (sufferings) if we allow it to happen again.

Please someone should tell me why our local food substitutes should become more expensive than the imported ones when no taxes are paid on them, no forex used to acquire them or border duties paid?
This is injustice we are doing to ourselves and we would be worse for it if we don't stop now.

By the way this is not a call to start blasting the president, it that's ur aim then don't contribute. We have a common problem here and needs to think-tank

Useless minister of commerce and industry if we have one that is what he or she should be doing now.

Let's take them on, then it's easy to expose them. As for the agric minister he is trying, but that's on growing the food, he sold also be concerned on the feeding of the people from the finished product
