I don't know how to go about it, I read some where here that one can pay through PayPal and the naira equivalent of the proposed dollars is gonna be deducted, please is this true ? And how much do they charge per dollar to naira now online? .. Thank you in anticipation of responses

Congrats and enjoy your stay in Obamaland

@Bold

I still remember analyzing something on that and what if VO ask about the two ND degree and why not the course for your UG

Okay. This is crazy. Like very crazy. There is no time in the states!!! 24 hours is not enough here. I'm still in my orientation week. Classes haven't started yet I'm stressed. Idk if its my school or if that's how it is with other schools. I can't even remember when last I came here. To all those who are waiting for their visa, you will get it. To all those helping those in need here, God bless you. God bless this e-family

Nobody can predict how it will go after graduation ..... Your settling down in USA would depend largely on if you get a Job that files the next appropriate work visa for you ie H1B visa not if bring in your wife .

That been said if you have a valid F1 visa even as a student then your wife can apply for her dependent visa from beginning which is f2 visa (google it ) and then after graduation if you get h1B work permit then hers is H4 visa . For both "dependent visas" , she is not legally permitted to work but she can live in america with you . ......so YES she can be on a valid visa at all times and if you can provide for both of you then yes why not bring her in .

Will she be permitted to study? Or it just better for her to also apply for grad school on her own in case she wants to study too.
I'm asking this question because my plan is to come over to the USA after my masters in the UK and I intend to get married before going there. More reason I'm looking at starting PhD in 2018 and not 2017.
N:B My fiance has a 1:1(saying this so you could weigh her chances and give appropriate advice) and by 2018, even if she starts masters in Nigeria here she wouldn't have been through by fall.
I need your candid advice on this. Cos the truth is, I plan on staying aback there after my PhD to work and gain a lot of practiccl and research experience. Probably get a a post doc placement self.
Thanks

Although I am not an expert on immigration matters and stand to be corrected as sometimes these Visas gets confusing .. Staying/ Living in the USA as a dependent visa no problem, its the right to work and school that brings the complication

Situation 1: when you are a student - F2 cannot work or attend full time school So if she plans to study then she has to be on her seperate F1 visa ....... If she wants to stay at home, not school and not work then f2 ok .

Situation 2: When u are now on work permit: If she is on her F1 she can remain on it or switch to your H4 dependent visa ..if she has no visa she can be put on h4..... H4 can school but cannot work so here it gets tricky

For both of you to work then you need to be on separate H1b visa because remember I said h4 cannot work only school . So after her own graduation if she wants to work then she cannot if she is still on h4 visa. She would need to switch to her own separate h1b to be able to work .

So the best thing might be to be on separate f1 , separate h1B until after a company has successfully filled green card for you and spouse . At Green card level there is no work or school restriction …..I know it’s annoying but I think that how it is but again I am not expert . when you get to that bridge its best to consult an expert who will can recommend what will work best for your situation

My Short travel experience

I took off from Lag with Qatar on 11th, 2:30pm Nigeria time.
We stopped at Doha and 2 hours after we kicked off to new york. 13 hours journey no be moi moi. They kept giving us food and drinks... Meanwhile pls and pls, when those oyibo FA ask what you want, make sure you hear well oooooo. because I heard rice in what they mentioned I quickly jumped to rice cos I believe nobody can go wrong in making rice not knowing its a vegetarian food.
They usually have two foods:one veg and one non veg. And they give you want. I drank enough Juice and cola to compensate their nonsense food. There are thousands of movies to watch.
I heard Ethiad dey serve peppersoup(someone should confirm tho)

Whoever brought the fear of POE should be flogged and jailed. DO NOT PANIC!!!

They don't even have time to drill you cos they know you had a long journey. they are just doing their job. I didn't spend more than five mins with the official. Showed them my passport, 1-20, scanned my finger prints and prolly took my pix and off I went.

And America is organized. In fact those people no like stress. Everything was spelt out in the airport. You can't get lost and even if you do, ask question. It was in Naija airport that the search was real but other airports had scanner or so. They didnt use their hands to search our carry ons.

Finally going to America was a mixed feeling. I wasn't excited and I wasn't sad either but I just knew it was a "start of something good".

Nice one, all the best

The best bet might be for him to get an F-1 visa, bring the wife along on F-2. Whenever along the process the wife decides to start school (if after one year and in the same state, would be treated as a in-state resident in some states in which case qualifies for in-state tuition), she applies for change of status with USCIS. The wife switches to F-1, both of them look for job after graduation on OPT, one or both hopefully gets H1-B and GC sponsorship through a company..that way the risk is less; in case one person doesn't get it.

@bolded, if the spouse has a pending immigrant petition but with I-140 approved, the H4 dependent can work...as long as the H1-B is valid

Thanks,if I may ask how do you know about all these conversions?

If you start keeping record of conversions posted here and you've been here for some time, you would be able to say almost exactly what cgpa/5 would be in cgpa/4.

soulhighman:

Just to add your point, I did my conversion in wes and my 4.58 stood at 3.73. So his own might stand around 3.6+

Just like keeping this post would help your predictions next time. It's not magic.

You were told this before. So, this is not only about you or your school. This is one of the reasons DHS don't support student employment and why VO's want only academically prepared F1 applicants at the embassy.

In fact, you still have time. Assignment deadlines, presentations and exams weeks are coming, brace yourself friend!

You can make payment via your paypal or someone assist you to do the payment for your application fee.. Your bank determine the exchange rate.

I will advice you to get visa first and not to pay for tuition deposit now because it doesn't guarantee visa approval 50% not to talk of 100% and the amount you will be charged for the payment now will not be the same amount that will be used to refund your money back if visa is not granted.
