The most important question here should be if the name 'Buhari' is exclusive to our president alone?? Is he the only Buhari in Nigeria?? Because that would be very strange undecided

The guy was referring to the President. He said he named the dog after Buhari because he seemed to be his mentor, of which we all know he was trying to defend himself. My simple question is,if somebody name a dog after you what will you do?

But she didn't inscribe the governor's name on any dog. You don't just get the point here, do you? Calling the dog buhari is not the main deal here, rather inscribing buhari's name on the said dog is the problem here

Interesting. Have u or anyone seen this inscription on the dog? In this day of mobile camera, the complainant won't have wasted time taking that picture as evidence. Has it occurred to u and everyone else that the evidence does not exist? If he did, I am still surprised it got to court. I thought he claimed Buhari was the name of his father who is a fellow Nigerian. Would it have mattered if the name on the dog was another Neigbour who was Yoruba but a muslim as well? Sorry guys, this approach further creates a religious and regional divide than mends it. This looks all about the president not being able to handle criticisms and seriously has a very thin skin. This is a non issue and plays no rule in improving d economy, health sector or education. Nigeria is in a very sad place right now and the president needs to start focusing on what matters.

Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990
Check part 2 and also chapter 10

Also take note : Before trying to comment follow up the matter and see what the lawyer whom they picked to fight for them also said. When u r done let me know.
Thanks

Just read it and it's states that "don't name your dog after any sitting president, because he is the only one in this world with that name". Buhari can as well start putting on military uniform, because this is not normal in any democratic setting.

If justice in nigeria is as fast as they quickly took this man to court over irrelevant issue, if the main issues or cases of those who looted nigeria wealth, ( for i could still see the former leader who lead his followes to loot almost all nigeria's wealt going about freely and even representing nigeria, africa and the world in the elections of other african counttries and enjoying his loots, and the same with his vice and many like them), manipulated national assembly's election, padding of budget, false declaration of asset, rape, kidnaping and so are treated with such quickness and importance, then nigeria would be a good, and developed country, then nigeria will not have be a land of almost total darkness.
The judges are hypocrites leaving the main broblems of nigeria but pursuing irrelevance. It is a mocry of judgment in a very corrupt country. It is perversion of justice. It is evil destraction. Because nigeria is corrupt and the judiciary is rotten, the judiciary not being able prosecute the main criminal leaders who are looters, and so on , are looking for other irrelevant case to occupy themselves with, and to distract the people

Now I want to ask everyone on Nairaland a question:

On the issue of giving dog a name.

1. What would happen to an Hausa man who give his dog (with respect ) to the late Ojukwu, Ojukwu and then inscribes the name on both sides of the body and walk around Alaba market with it not to even talk of Aba market. Or let's say Nnamdi Kanu.

2. Which Ibo man would write Mohammed on his dog body after given its name and walk by anywhere in the north.

Now I think people see there is definitely no sense in this man's choice of behaviour. He is an ignoramus and I will tell him to his face if I meet him. I repeat the only reason I plead on his behalf is because of his family.
if anything does happen, say like a fight is started over such trivial issue, it is because the people involved are ignorant/crazy, not because they were provoked as something like this, isn't supposed to provoke any sane person.

[quote author=fiizznation post=48714478] You shut up my friend. Only a sick fellow like the ugly lunatic up there will inscribed the name of a seating president on a dog hoping his action will spark some sort of crisis. He should thank his star that the issue is handled in a civilized manner. Why didn't he inscribed ojukwu's name or any of his leaders cognomen on the said dog if he wants to show how miserable his life is?

You don't go about looking for trouble and when that trouble finally finds you, you begin to play the victim card. Maybe if he'd call his name buhari without inscribing buhari's name on the dog, just maybe nobody will have any problem with him. But what that sick fellow did is an 'act of provocation', a breach of public peace and an evil intention to instigate violence. Like I said earlier, he should thank his very tiny star that the authority stepped in to calm every boiling nerve down.

Again he should thank his 'very very tiny star'.
[

The police got it wrong at the point when they had to re-arrest the man. They should have counselled both parties and ensure the matter is put to rest instead of escalating it to this point.

The man who reported to the police did the right thing instead of taking laws into his hand and instigating violence and communal clash. He could truly be offended by the action especially as he claimed it has got something to do with his dad Alhaji Buhari. More to the fact that there was apparent animosity between both community.

The owner of the dog has the right to name his dog by any name. He could be wrong however, if he did it maliciously to spite others and instigate crisis.

The real culprit here is the police, for not managing the issue well. The two parties could have been educated and the matter settled amicably...but they choose to make issue out of it.

Now enough of this useless nonsense. We Nigerians should work more on living together happily than get excited about issues that further divide us.

Just hear urself; some muslims went on rampage, but u mischieviously ommitted the reason. The way ur brother wants to cause problem by naming a dog after the president is just the same way ur christian brother was insulting their religion even in their own house.

you definitely have a short memory or you would recall that a goat was named Jonathan & heaven did not fall.

what reason did the Muslims go on rampage? it was 'alledged' that someone committed 'blasphemy'. the same way the women killed in kano & abuja 'blasphemed'.

from your comment, its obvious you support the mayhem that happened in Zamfara because you feel your religion was insulted.

your 'kind' thrive on the notion that you are violent & therefore you should not be messed with. you see nothing wrong on trampling on the rights of others but turn into werewolves the moment someone from another religion gives you a second look.

SMH! If you are a son to the President how will feel when you come face to face with someone that give your father's name to his/her dog? During the time of GEJ,i have never in my life rain curses on him because I know my freedom of speech doesn't mean I should disrespect elders. The guy needs to be disciplined.
So are you trying to say he's the only one bearing the name 'Buhari' in this country ? Even if he is, is that an offence under the constitution of Nigeria ?

:-XWhy would an Ijaw man take offence on seeing a name anyone can own on your dog? What is provocative in your action?

How can you say a name tag won't lead the dog back to the owner? Are you for real?

What are you talking about, about the name being that of the president, thereby making it what people think first when they hear or see the name? How is that important? Also what does my having or haven't seen a dog with its name written on a cardboard have to do with anything?

You are just not been realistic, Nigeria is too tribal sensitive, I'm sure you know that, even if that wasn't the intention, people are going to see it that way.
Tell me how it will lead to the owner? The dog name is buhari, what other information can lead to the owners address

To the last question, because it simply doesn't happen. People NEVER tag their dog with a cardboard for the world to see.
Finally, just ask yourself, why o you think he wanted everyone to know he named the dog buhari, lets forget about the president. Was it not enough to name the dog buhari and walk it around, he simply will tell people if asked, if it's normal to you then all cool.

The truth is have argued this same issue with so many people from the south east and so many of them seems to justify the action of the man. But I do ask them this question that what will be there reaction if an Hausa man in ladipo market or Alaba international market name his dog Ojukwu and inscribed that same name on it. How would they feel. The action of the man was born out of hatred for Buhari and should be condemned. Its not proper especially in a country like Nigeria. We all should be mindful of the things will do and never allow hatred to becloud our sense of reasoning.
just shut it,is the President the only person that bears the name.....

If you read my statement correctly you would see that I said giving the dog a name was not the issue. Inscribing the name on both sides are. It is funny how you find it hard to assimilate what I am saying. Do you know what it means to inscribe. Get a paint and write BUHARI on the right and left side of the dog and walk around it in an Hausa setting. Most Hausa's with minial jobs are not so educated. What do you think will happen??. I expect much better from you

you make excuses for the 'goat' but condemn the 'dog'?

in that case, maybe because buhari has been 'barking' about corruption so that is what inspired the 'dog'.
