DonCortino: If only you know how many million metric tonnes of rice we import annually. Right now, Nigeria can only produce one fourth of his annual rice need. We are the largest importer of rice in Africa and the second in the world. RICE is one of major commodity that place enormous strain on our dollar demand right now may be $10billion daily or so. So I would suggest any well meaning Nigeria with enough fund to find a way into the supply chain of our local rice production. 5 Likes 1 Share |

ideology: My thought exactly...here in Australia a small community (Whyndam) with a population of less than 10,000 peaople have a sea port just because of the 3 mines located around the area. Australia with a population of just about 23million has sea ports almost in all coastal towns ,You start to wonder why a country like Nigeria with a population of over 170million has to depend on only Lagos ports if not for politics 5 Likes |

Rice will sell for N9, 000 before December, says Quadri hairman, Alimosho Local Government in Lagos, Mr. Ganiyu Quadri, said on Tuesday, that the agro-business scheme run by the Lagos State government in Kebbi State will put an end to the high cost of foodstuff in the Southwest, Chairman, Alimosho Local Government in Lagos, Mr. Ganiyu Quadri, said on Tuesday. Specifically, the council boss said the price of a bag of rice, which is N18,500, will drop to N9,000 before December. Quadri gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of Rotary Club of Akowonjo 9110, led by its District-Governor, Patrick Ikheloa, and President, Shola Abidakun. According to the council chief, the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Lagos swung into agro-business to ensure food security for its people. “By the end of this year, or first quarter next year, things will change in Lagos. Already, we are into agro-business in Kebbi State. We have massive land on which we planted grains, among which is rice, our people’s staple food. And it is expected that the truck-loads of rice will storm Lagos soon. “So, I can assure you that before the end of this year, the price of a bag of rice, which is N18,000, will drop to N9,000.” Quadri, who regretted the financial strains in which councils found themselves, said one of the mandates of sole administrators was to see how they could pay up debts owed by councils. Earlier, the Rotary Club’s President, Abidakun, who said the club was welcoming its governor, Ikheloa, to the district, stressed the need for partnership between the Rotary Club and government organs in alleviating the people’s suffering. The Rotary Club also visited the Akowonjo Health Care Centre and donated mosquito nets and other clinical facilities. It visited Little Saints Orphanage Home in Akowonjo, also donating foods, toiletries, beddings and others to the children. A baby girl was born during the club’s visit to the Akowonjo Health Centre. Abidakun named the baby, ‘Sholape’, meaning, ‘the child’s prosperity is complete.’ http://www.newsflashng.com/rice-will-sell-n9-000-december/

We must as a NATION deal with this rice matter once and for all. Good talk from you regardless of my observations. |

DIFY20:you You are obviously not well informed.Gov Ambode of Lagos state on behalf of the state was one of the earliest investors in the rice farming and milling business in this admistration. He purchased several hectares of land in Osun and Kebbi state for rice plantation. He also partnered with Kebbi state Government in the LABANA rice plantation scheme and mill.Today ,the first set of bumper harvest of rice is from the Kebbi state farmers who were empowered with loan, improved seedlings, ferlizer and other support.Lagos state is heavily invested in rice. Meanwhile, the Governor of Osun state,Aregbesola and the Ooni of Ife have commenced the rejuvenation of cocoa plantation in Osun state. |

Firstly, the firm from an online search is based in the UK and not Singapore. Secondly, it has been reported to be closed. Thirdly, it's more of a real estate business that seeks donation. Which serious business does such? Fourthly, it has clones. One which is closed in the UK, the other is based in Nigeria offering accommodation to labourers. Fifthly, it's associated with Royal Dutch Shell on contract for accommodation services. Which implies it's not an agricultural company. Sixtly, only Nigerian media are distributing the news. Not even the Straits Times of Singapore took it up. From research, it goes to show that the investment is false. I'm gutted in Udom. |

lexyclasy:. thank you for bringing me up to speed. I'm sure by now u are feeling like superman by justifying ur governor. All u wrote is true... does that make him a hero. Are you saying there are no companies in Nigeria that he can partner with? Are you saying by going to Singapore the Naira is being strengthened?. you named his achievements like they are privileges... He is doing his job. We already have indigenous millers in Nigeria that can provide the same services .... if our government won't develop our LDI's then FDI's is a joke. NB.. everyone is entitled to there opinion .... never mention ppl to insult them while glorifying cooperate thieves.... idiot |

Raypawer:thanks bro...I understand your point. I believe we all have to be part of the government. we need to be actively involved. I stay in uyo... partnering with foreign countries in agriculture is not a good thing for any government to do. I believe he should own the mill 100% or nothing. An enabling environment is what should be clamoured for, then investments will creep into the state. Ak has all the potentials to strive, they even get a huge sum from fed allocation ... they can do this without partnering... partnering in agriculture in a country like ours is a means to siphon money.... take it or not. just watch and see |
