Been keeping mute on this thread since but I'm commenting bcz of this fraud abi scam of a thing. dunamit since you know you're real and you're really going through hard time just forget whatever blank wrote is of no use calling out to her that's if your conscience is clear. Things are really hard now and to even help someone & find out later that's a scam can be painful. I don't know where in jos(jos south, North) you're staying but I know cost of living is really not hard. Foodstuffs is not costly too(served there, mangu to be precise). And like other mama's v said just follow their advice. Since you're learning how to sew, you can make clothes for your lo. Who am I to judge? Remain blessed sis is well. 3 Likes |

kotias003: OK mama! Take a deep breath and massage your temples. Try not to stress and find a happy place.! The introduction of formular and him not latching will reduce your supply as your body will be fooled to only supplying what it thinks the baby needs and in this case, not much. If you decide to stick with formular only, that is absolutely fine. Dont feel guilty about it. If you decide you want to give breast feeding a go, I know it can be difficult but you will need to express. If you are not already doing it Get a breast pump! I know someone who exclusively expressed and fed her son for a month before he finally latched. I have also read of people who exclusively pumped for the entire duration of 6 months plus the weaning stages. So it can be done if you set your mind to it. If you have help, anytime he is being bottle fed whether formular or breastmilk go sit somewhere and express. After he finishes his bottle, put him to the breast and see if he takes it. He is likely to take it when he does not have extreme hunger to deal with . You are less stressed as well as you know he is fed. With time, stop his bottle feed half way, burp and offer him the breast. If you dont have help, feed him with the formular or expressed milk and try and offer breast Afterwards . Remember to try and express as often as he feeds. This should trigger your milk production to increase. Keep at it no matter how small you express at the begining. Make sure you eat well and drink loads of fluids. If you can manage it try and keep him near when expressing, some swear the contact helps with milk flow. Hopefully with time he will come around. All the best! 5 Likes 1 Share |

Hmm. Kotias003, pele. Breastfeeding is not easy, try and don't beat yourself up. As baby is drinking formula, try and pump. You've gotten really good advice. I know it was challenging for me as well, but there was something my sibling told me: "this is just 6 months out of a long life. So do your best but don't beat yourself if things don't work out the way you planned it." 1 Like |

AlphaHandMaiden, thanks for responding. Thank you! Your comments are always so intelligent, detailed and helpful, I know this from the preggy thread. I really I'm trying to find a happy place. I know I need to but its so difficult. Yes I got a breast pump, a manual one. You said I should express as much as he eats? That's saying I should express every 2-3 hours? Can I really feed him only on breastmilk if he doesn't latch & I always have to express? Again, thank you so much! |

kotias003: Everything AlphaHandMaiden said! It's not easy. My baby wasn't latching properly in the beginning as well but didn't introduce formula So my supply doesn't reduce. Got frustrated many times. I exclusively pumped and bottle fed for the first 6 weeks while practising to latch a few times each day. She eventually got a hang of it and now even grabs it herself when hungry. Lol. 6 months next week so it's very doable. But if it doesn't work out, please don't beat yourself up. It's worth the effort tho. During that time, my mum always reminded me that i wasn't EBF and i turned out okay. Lol. I pray for strength and grace for you xx |

kotias003: The key word is try! It can be a bit stressful doing it every 2 - 3 hours, that is why i said if you have help (mum, mil, or hubby) Let them help feed the baby while you take time out to express. If you think you have dwindling milk supply, you may need to attempt it at the start. How often you end up expressing will depend on how much you can express at a seating and how much your lo feeds. I was also advised that if i was finding it difficult to express, the best time to express is between 2:00 - 5:00 am as that is when your body produces the hormones for milk production for the day ahead. So if you are not too tired after a night feed at this time, you can give it a go. I did this a number of times and it does work. I have always had better results than my day time pumping. It may be a bit tedious with an manual pump, but before i say go and buy an electric pump, there are people who have had massive success with a manual pump. So see how you get on first with what you have. Remember you are doing this in tandem with formular at the begining, and then you can gradually reduce the formular intake if you wish, as you go along. Good luck. 1 Like |

Onegai: Thanks so much maam. I'd have lol-ed at the bolded, but I can stop thinking "if I don't get this right, how'd I get other things right I'm grateful for the advices. I'd definitely be putting them to practice. MetroTee: The bolded is encouraging. Thanks a mil. Lol @ your mum but its true o, one doesn't need to be EBF to turn out okay. comtem2011: Amen! @comtem2011 I have taken him to the hospital and I was given ORS,zinc tablet and Furoxetil, which I started administering immediately. However,I noticed his poo has turned green since I started the hospital treatment. I have also stopped giving the formula as advised by the doc, only breast milk since yesterday. What do you think could be the cause of that now. Pls mamas, I urgently need your advice ASAP. |
Re: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by Liftedhands(f): 11:43am On Aug 28, 2016 |
DANZAK:Sorry about your lo, the green poo may be an indication that he is not getting the hind milk! that is, the creamy and fatty part of breast milk which comes after nursing for a while . Try and ensure baby feeds for longer on a breast before switching to the other. Green poo may also signal an infection which could have caused the stooling in the first place, either ways just be watchful. 1 Like |

Check your water, add a lil disinfectant to his bath water. Wash his towel every two days with hot water. Make sure he doesn't share his personal stuff with anybody. Egg towel, soap, sponge etc. Don't use cream on his body. Did you change his soap? Watch his meals, its possible he is reacting to something he ate/ eats. Egg, milk, crayfish etc. You need to carefully watch him Eminya: |

Liftedhands: Thank u for the info. I now feed him on breast milk alone though I feel that he does not get enough as he sleeps less and cries more now, which I believe is due to hunger. I am just so confused right now. On one hand is the formula that is not good for his system but fills him up and on the other hand is breast milk that is less in supply therefore leaves him unfilled. |

DANZAK: Ask your Dr about soy based formula for him since he's purging with regular formula! i would advice you supplement the breast milk with formula for now. Even if just twice a day! Then you try and fill up yourself with more fluid to help your milk supply. |

Danzak have you tried expressing breast milk so that your baby can get more? Or you look for another formula to try see if baby will accept it. |
