Economy is in danger, Naira is falling, hunger is ravaging our villages and towns, costs are rising, other Countries are developing, overtaking Nigeria, while you are living comfortably in the Villa, or have you forgotten that we are the ones who went out and voted you amid sun heat, difficulties and fair of terrorist attack? If we talk, the excuse will be; the crude oil price, destruction of pipe by militants, and the likes. We were happy we voted you hoping Nigeria will be a better place to live, happy that terrorism will end, but here we are today, although the war against Boko Haram is commended, but why not destroy the southern militants for once and for all? Fight them from land, air and water just like Israeli’s 2013’s war on Gaza strip. Despite the fact that I’m a Fulani man, I am strongly against the herdsmen attack on Nigerian citizens, and I call on the FG to severely punish any herdsman found guilty, killing should be an offence punishable by death (by hanging), also, allowing cows to roam about in the FCT and all other states capital should be ban, the idea of providing a grazing reserve is good, but punishment most be rendered on those who committed crime. In the Nigeria we are today, indiscipline and lack of respect between both Citizens and Government has suffice, so if FG wants to make good change, it will be wiser to be strict, it is better to be a good tyrant than be incompetent, why think of grazing reserve when there are few killers among the herdsmen? Fish them out and kill them or they will eventually brainwash others and it will become something serious. Why allow the pipeline vandals to live when they are threatening the country’s economy putting the lives of millions in danger? Fawallahil azeem this is not the change I wanted by voting you Mr. President. If the Government has sentenced one single Niger Delta militants group to death and ended their line, no one will dares to do what they have done, however, allowing them to live will make others to join them or create even more groups. I am therfore calling on the Nigerian Government to wake up and face the reality, some few thousands of people cannot be allowed to threaten the lives of millions, if they are allowed, we can’t hold up our head with dignity to other countries, if we can’t punish the offenders, protect the life and properties of our people, how will other countries respect us? We don’t just deserve respect from others, Nigeria should be a Nation that is being faired, our military should attack like a tiger, hold like a bear, and stand like an elephant, only then, will we flourish and be among the influential Nations on earth. Mr. President, remember that as our leader, Allah the Almighty will hold you accountable and responsible for the soul of everyone of our millions in population under your rule, both Muslims, Christians and even Birds & Animals, if this is beyond you, kindly & humbly resign, don't destroy our future generations. |

@Azujabee, Let me address the Naira and Village hunger situation. Naira will continue to fall and it is beyond Buhari or any President as it stands. The reason? In the past govt didn't let the forces of demand and supply dictate Naira-to-dollar exchange value entirely. The govt acheived this by using excess dollar from oil sales to defend the Naira. It did this by offering the excess dollar earned from oil sales at a low rate in forex market to importers through CBN regulated commercial banks. This system was sustainable because there was always excess dollar in the reserve. Right now there isn't enough dollar to meet directly constitutionally backed government obligations alone talkless of the Father Christmas Obligations. All this while the govt was keeping dollar exchange rate down the real exporters who were suppose to provide alternative forex earners asides oil where discouraged by low dollar-exchange rate. On the reason the villages are being ravaged by Hunger; 1) Laziness. Rural settlement all over the world are know for excess food because people there choose to farm. In Nigeria LGAs you see a 50 drivers being on payroll when they barely have 5 vehicles. This is labour subsidy and it kills the productivity-drive that can initiate and sustain alternative export asides oil. |

I personally do not think government should prioritize job creation at this time. The biggest issue is the value of the naira as it determines the standard of living of nigerians in general. There are a few silver linings such as the hope that nigeria can reduce importation of rice this year, and also dangote's refinery coming up in 2018. However, Buhari is in a difficult position, which is not by his own creation. The economy is collapsing and there is going to be massive job losses. The thing is, job losses can either occur more heavily in the private or in the public sector. The choice is in Buhari's hands. If buhari sacks government workers, the naira will gain in value because the demand for imported goods will reduce. This is help the private sector directly because a stronger naira equates to cheaper raw materials, thus cheaper finished goods will should lead to an increase in the demand for their products. Sacked Government workers wouldn't demand for private sector goods as much as when they had jobs, but overall losses of jobs in the public sector today would lift the naira and thus prevent the collapse of the private sector. On the other hand, buhari can choose not to sack government workers. This will likely result in the continuous collapse in the naira for the foreseeable future. The action will destroy the private sector just as the private sector was completely destroyed in the late 80's. There will be massive shut downs of companies and massive losses of private sector jobs. This will in time lead to decreased pressure on the naira and the naira will start to appreciate. I am personally of the opinion that private sector jobs are harder to create than government jobs because a private citizen must have a concrete motivation to start a business and also a profitable reason to employ a worker. The government however, can choose to employ people without any solid economic reason . For this reason, my advice to buhari is to implement the Steve oronsaye's report on restructuring the civil service and save the private sector. 2 Likes |

Sibrah:have you ever try to figure out what stop those rural people from farming? firstly, I hope you know what it cost to farm manually, which are: hope, strength, stability and capital, you should understand that in Nigeria farming is not easy if you considere the price of manure, weed and pest control. This year we sprayed two bags of rice in one of our land as usual, it is not yet ready but almost N200,000 has been spent, something beyond a village man to afford easily. secondly, this rural settlements has insufficient social amenities; no good hospitals, no good drinking water, how will they gather the strength and hope to farm? thirdly, they have no hope and desire to farm because they are afraid - they are in fair of loosing there capital and life, because among the herdsmen some naughty ones will push their cows to feed there, if the famers try to resist, they die, what punishment has this govt do to one herdsman? is this not terrorist in arising? what will happen in the next 1 decade if this is allowed? where are they getting weapons in the name of protection which is merely a lie? it seems you are living well but not aware of other's suffering, go on a little excursion and your views will surely change. 1 Like |

For me I think we should target forex and job creation and kill both birds with one stone We have to be a little socialist this time at least for now... If we can produce our, sugar, wheat and petroleum products demand for dollars will drop... Wheat We have developed a new wheat that yeilds 5 tons/hectare, government should work with states governments that's have lands for wheat production and set aside a total of 2 million hectares, work with NTM and innoson to manufacture the tractors to cultivate this lands... Use the locals as workers, use universities as seed production facilities to cultivate this lands and if we do this will give us over 100 million tons of wheat... far more than what we demand.. The rest should be stored in the reserves Sugar I think we need to go to India and borrow the idea of tropical sugar beets and plant this in over 500000 hectares, still owned by state/fedral government .with extra 300 million dollars we can set up the processing plants and in 1 year we are sugar self reliant... Dangote, bua and the rest have the refining capacity already As for petroleum products we just have to wait until ap and dangote finishes there refineries watch them run it for a year, then sell of the government owned to their revials But the truth is this there is no quick fix 1 Like |

Ways to Solve Nigeria's Perennial Power Generation Problems Nigeria's development has been pegged back on several occasions due to the inconsistent and insufficient power generation. After some careful thoughts, I have come up with a blueprint on how to stabilise and improve power generation in the country. 1. Gas Powered Plants Should Be Sited Close to Source To stop the the incessant vandalism of gas pipelines, gas powered plants from now on should only be sited close to areas where gas is produced. Why so? Pipelines will be easier to be monitored by security agents since the area under surveillance is within short distance. It makes no sense to site plants several kilometer from source of gas as this makes pipeline protection and surveillance virtually impossible. Pipelines transversing long kilometer stretch might work in saner and developed climes but given that some Nigerians have poor mentality by continuously destroying government property, it won't work over here. 2. Gas Plants far away from gas source should be converted to coal powered Why so? Firstly, government has to revamp coal production. Though coal is seen as a "dirty" source of energy due to its calamitous effect on the environment, as the saying goes, "Beggars are not choosers". Nigeria lacks the sufficient power to trigger its industrial revolution and must henceforth look for any source of energy , both clean or dirty to bolster its economy. As we can observe from the country, almost all plants sited far away from gas source are performing below expectations and producing far less power that it was originally meant to, at this is due to insufficient gas supply which can be linked to the consistent tampering of gas pipelines. Converting them to coal powered will eliminate this problem and also make them function at effective level, it also saves money that would have been wasted in repairing this vandalised pipelines on a weekly basis. Conversion to coal power isn't that hard and only requires replacing gas turbines with steam turbines. Coal can be easily transported through road or rail. 3. Solar Powered Plants should be set up at the north The north is blessed with abundant sunlight, we should therefore not waste this gift of nature. Solar powered plants should be set up all around areas with intense sunlight eg Sokoto. The generated MW from these plants might be small when compared to those produced by carbon(gas and coal) but it still very beneficial to our power grid. 4. Upgrading existing plants with new turbines New turbines should purchased in addition with the old ones to improve MW of power to be generated. 5. Bio gas Plants Nigeria should consider investing in bio gas plants. Plants can be sited in cities with huge population and huge waste eg Lagos and Kano. It serves two purpose; as it makes our environment cleaner by recycling waste and also produces a reasonable amount of power to be added to the grid. |

Azujabeel:Even though you raised lots of salient point towards the end of your reply, Read and comprehend my post well. If the FG wasn't forcing down the dollar exchange rate the farmers will command higher returns on same volume of goods they produce and stay afloat more often. |

Nigeria has been faced with many challenges for the past decades. Government after government have failed miserably in their bid to proffer solutions. The resulting effect is that theordinary citizen bears the brute force of the ineptitudeness of those they elect torule them. After a careful thought, I havecome up with a simple solution which if followed stringently will greatly improve the situation in the country. Some valid points I have thought of are mentioned below; (1) INDEPENDENCE OF STATES ON FG -Each state should set up large hectaresof lands for agriculture. Each should cultivate crops adaptable to their climate and weather eg cocoa to the west, onions and groundnut to the north, cassava and palm kernel to the east etc. -By setting up huge farms, the problem of unemployment to an extent will be reduced by employing jobless youths. -Each state should also set up a unique industry capable of transforming resources within them into wealth eg kaduna state could set up textile industries that can use cultivated cottonfound within its reach and transforming to marketable finished products. -States should also go into mining the vast mineral resources abandoned by previous governments and converting them to incomes for the states. (2) MORE INVESTMENT INTO RENEWABLE ENERGY -More investments should be made in renewable energy by building more dams. The Kainji dam has been a consistent supplier of about 800MW of power on a daily basis. If more dams of the same or greater power capacity can be constructed in areas near the ocean or water like Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers etc, the power sector will improve dramatically. The advantages of dams to gas plants in use nowadys is its consistency and reliability. Gas plants rely heavily on gas supply from pipelines, which over the years have been consistently vandalized. If funds used by previous administrations to set up these disappointing gas plants were invested in more dams, the power situation would have been more positive. (3) MAKE GOVT POSITIONS LESS ATTRACTIVE -The constitution should be amended in a way that government officials don't have a direct access to state treasury. By doing this, people going into politics to get rich will be greatly discouraged. -The salaries and entitlements of legislators should be drastically reducedin line with the minimum wages of nigerians. At present their salaries are 275 times higher than the minimum wage. (4) INVESTMENTS IN REFINERIES More refineries should be setup, if possible each state having at least one. This will reduce the power of the cabals and oil marketers who have over the years caused nigerians unbearable hardships. (5) FESTIVALS TO PROMOTE ETHNIC EQUALITY On a yearly basis, festivals that promote togetherness and equality of the different ethnic groups should be setup.By doing so, the problem of secession and rebellious activities will be minimized. 1 Like |

Good morning Trillville... I specifically took interests in your submission and would use it to also make my own submission. Apologies for cancelling your entire post. So here I go..... trillville: Government should definitely prioritize job creation! Any government MUST! And when the unemployment rates are down, the next priority should be JOB SUSTENANCE! Currently, unemployment is on a high side and every indication shows that it would continue rising. The fall in value of the Naira, like job loss is as a result of not taking appropriate decisions and actions at the right time - we are heavily dependent on imports, imports to meet basic needs like toothpicks and other things. Another commodity is petroleum products which unfortunately, with the epileptic power supply, most companies uses up to 30% of their operating expenses on electricity generation. (In the audited report of Sokoto Cement, of the entire Cost of Sales of approximately 9 billion, roughly 6 billion translating to 66% was expended on energy cost). Now when there is a shock as we have witnessed some months ago, access and availability of dollars become very difficult and challenging. The companies's operating expenses would increase and they would subsequently increase the prices of their finished goods. Now the consumers' purchasing power would depend on their income. This income definitely won't be increased (its obvious) and so activity reduces. Then the company would reduce its workforce in response to declining revenue. At the end of the day, you have JOB LOSS and in a country like ours, with a huge population of young able, qualified, skilled workforce, you would not want to toy with their idleness. So JOB CREATION is a PRIORITY! However, Buhari is in a difficult position, which is not by his own creation. The economy is collapsing and there is going to be massive job losses. The thing is, job losses can either occur more heavily in the private or in the public sector. The choice is in Buhari's hands. Buhari did contribute to whatever we are passing through. No one can claim innocence, especially not Buhari. It doesn't have to be through actions but by mere words. In the run up to the election, Mr. Buhari did question the rationale behind subsidy. In fact, one of his supporters, Prof. Tam David West said that petrol should be sold at 40 Naira per liter even when the price of crude oil was hovering above $100 per barrel. Today, crude oil is more than 50% less and yet how much do you buy PMS at the stations? If buhari sacks government workers, the naira will gain in value because the demand for imported goods will reduce. This is help the private sector directly because a stronger naira equates to cheaper raw materials, thus cheaper finished goods will should lead to an increase in the demand for their products. Sacked Government workers wouldn't demand for private sector goods as much as when they had jobs, but overall losses of jobs in the public sector today would lift the Naira and thus prevent the collapse of the private sector. You earlier asserted that you do not think that government should not prioritize JOB CREATION...now have you thought of the consequences of a massive job loss in government's institution (not to mention the private sector)? The size of government's workforce is very insignificant compared to that of the private sector workforce. So your claim that the Naira will gain more in value holds no ground in whatever context. The private sector is the engine growth of ANY economy that is prospering or wants to prosper. The government's workforce is just a regulator - they set the policies, implement the polices and ensure adequate compliance. The private sector are the players. Although Government might want to participate in the game but the aim is usually for social benefits. As much resources as you can garner and you are ready to abide by the rules and regulations, you are welcome to play in the game. The government sets the tone, the private sector determines the pitch of the tone. And when the pitch is not pleasurable, you have a low and dissatisfied audience resulting to low revenue, low tax, low infrastructure which includes healthcare and electric power supply and people like you and I would result into violence and chaos. I can go on and on. Kindly look at this paragraph. It appears the message you were trying to pass across is confusing. Surely, Mr. Buhari sacking government's workforce would have some consequences but definitely not "in the continuous collapse in the Naira" - as you put it. Rather, by not creating and ensuring a conductive environment for growth and development, it would lead to a "continuous collapse in the naira for the foreseeable future", "massive shut downs of companies and massive losses of private sector jobs" and "decreased pressure on the naira". I am personally of the opinion that private sector jobs are harder to create than government jobs because a private citizen must have a concrete motivation to start a business and also a profitable reason to employ a worker. The government however, can choose to employ people without any solid economic reason . Private sector jobs are easier to create. Just set the tone. They would see the opportunities and you'd be surprised at their passion to succeed. Let me give an example. Nigeria is a major producer and exporter of cassava. But at one point we export cassava in very crude forms. Then import the cassava in processed forms. By exporting our cassava in raw forms, we transferred our value to the importer, helped them improve their economy - income, job creation. So in order to reverse that trend, government initiated policies to encourage local processing of cassava - for local consumption and subsequently for export. Today, there are many companies springing up which will intend to use one of the end products of processed cassava as its major raw material. Today Nigerian Breweries is determined to increase its local sourcing of raw materials (for which starch is a major component) by up to 70 percent. That will encourage local growth of industries, including farmers. That is also a plus to Nigerian Breweries because they will reduce their exposure to foreign exchange especially now. Another example is refining of crude oil. Imagine we have very functional refineries. Imagine government (all arms) are desirous to fix this problem once and for all. We know the obvious explanation. Cheers. |
