A former member of the House of Representatives and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Bitrus Kaze, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari, to eat the humble pie and reach out to the likes of former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonji Iweala, to help the nation come out of its current dwindling economy.

Kaze in an exclusive chat with DAILYPOST in Jos, said Iweala had distinguished herself globally.

“I must confess to you, while I was serving in the sixth and seventh Assembly, we used to wonder why the then President, Goodluck Jonathan, addressed Ngozi Okonji Iweala, as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, now I can see why.

“If I were President Buhari, I would eat the humble pie and go after this woman. She is a world class,an economist, she is highly respected in world economic institutions like IMF, World Bank, among others,” he advised.

“If she is not going to serve under him, she will be at least, willing to offer ideas.
” People like Soludo are there and so many other prominent Nigerians that have gone international; look for them,” he advised.

Kaze who represented Jos South/Jos East Constituency from 2007 to 2015, further explained that, “Nation building is not partisan, is not religion, is not regional. This reminds me of President Buhari’s comments that he is appointing northerners because he had confidence in them; it’s not just about the confidence, it is about understanding the economic realities of the world and how things can be best sorted out.

“He could build confidence on people he doesn’t know, people who have made a name in their chosen careers.

He lamented that, “In the last fifteen months, we have not seen an economic team selected by Mr. President. It’s less than a month that he appointed his economic adviser.

According to him, “This is somebody who has been struggling to lead this country for twelve good years; this is the same person who has always complained that there was nothing working good in the PDP government, since the time of Obasanjo.

“Having won the last election, we expected that such a person would be prepared to enter office, unfortunately, things have become terrible.

”President Buhari appears to me to be a man who does not understand national economy and he is not willing to learn. That is why things have gone so bad.”
