I do not agree with the op. The only difference btw studying abroad and studying here is that you will have a far better understanding of your choice of course if you study abroad. The points you listed don't cut it.

@op, all those who schooled and are schooling abroad are opportuned
thats all. Schooling abroad does not guarantee you automatic employment in Nigeria, but connection does.

EduRegard:
It can be hard for a freshly graduated student to get a job of their dreams. However, it can be much easier if you have some valuable skills and experience. For example, studying abroad can help you impress your potential employers and increase your chances of getting a dream job.

Why does it happen? Because many employers think highly of students, who studied abroad during their college years. No matter how many years you spent in a foreign country, it would still be beneficial to you.

Let’s speak about why employers like students who studied abroad so much.

1. They are more independent.

Leaving home for a college campus is challenging enough, but leaving home for another country is even more challenging. Students, who decide to study abroad, are left in a completely foreign country without a serious financial and moral support. Sure, their parents can send them money and their friends can support them when talking on Skype, but that’s still tough. However, if a student decided they still want to face these challenges in order to get a valuable experience, this means a lot for potential employers.

2. They know more languages.

Sure, some students who don’t study abroad can still speak two or three foreign languages, but not all of them. If a student had been studying in a foreign university, this means that they not only know one more foreign language, but also know it well enough to communicate with natives. For companies that plan to work with foreign clients this is very important.

3. They know cultural background of another country.

People, who visited a certain country at least once, can better understand things like country’s cultural background, mentality, levels of politeness, and so on. And people, who spend a lot of time living there, can understand cultural background even better. Companies, who are willing to work with people from a certain foreign country, are interested in employees, who understand such background well enough, as they are able to communicate with foreigners in the right way.

4. They know how to manage their finances.

When one is studying in a foreign country, they need to learn how to manage their finances well; otherwise, they’ll be in trouble. That’s why such students are able to handle money better than ones, who didn’t study abroad.

5. They know how to work (usually).

Yes, many ordinary students combine studies with a part-time job too. However, working in a foreign country is a completely different experience, as one has to communicate in a foreign language all the time, understand the currency differences, and so on. Moreover, foreign students are usually less privileged than local ones, and so they have to work harder to earn a living.

6. They are quick learners.

It can be hard to adapt to other country’s culture even if you are a tourist. Imagine how hard it is for foreign students: they have to learn about cultural differences, local expenses and other important things, and they have to study at the same time. Sure, such circumstances can be stressful, but that is the reason foreign students usually become very quick learners.

7. They are more open to possibilities.

If a student had been studying abroad, this means that they were open to this amazing new experience. This can mean that such student will be open to other possibilities too: for example, will be able to go on a business trip, to change a position, and so on. Moreover, such students are usually more open-minded too, as they have to understand foreign mentality well.

That’s why if you have an opportunity to go study somewhere abroad, you should seize it! This will not only give you unforgettable experience, but will help you with your future career as well.

True.

But whatever you do, DONT you ever attempt to go to the UK for your MSc or PhD. Unless you want to end your Postgraduate degree in anxiety and a state of confusion.

They are anti-immigrants and they do not hide it— well asides when they come to bamboozle and mesmerise Africans with colourful pictures of their schools and structures.

Even if you graduate best in your class, they will treat you as if they did you a favour. Yes, even when you've paid them £15,000+ and other additions to their economy, they treat you very badly.

It's not the people though, not the ordinary people. It's the system.

The United States, New Zealand, Austrialia and Canada are FAR ideal options.

Dear Sir,
this post should have a "Learning View"...what about those who cannot afford to school in this wonderful utopias of cultural integration and decorum.
It is only when we have retired this abroadian way of reasoning and try making our country investor and industry friendly that we would achieve some sort of parity in terms of employment.
Studying abroad is not a "sure-banker" route to gainfully paid employment in Nigeria...it can compared to winning a visa lottery making anyone a happy "abroadian".

The post is correct in so many ways but have failed to convince me that getting lynched in the streets of Moscow or that of Belgrade will ensure me a guaranteed job in Nigeria.

Digressing a bit, if we gather all the resources used to send all our "brained" students abroad to get most of these notable academicians from the land of the "abroadians" to a central prime academic government institution in Nigeria; tell me if the products from such institutions will not be world class.

As a card-carrying "dialist" working in the land of the "abroadians" with a salary that most "abroadian" educated Nigerians only dream about I say "The race is not unto the swift...".
I humbly ask that I don't get trolled.
Best regard,
WilliamXII.

p.s. I reserve the right to edit my post to reflect my current state of mind... egbukwalam biko!

Dear troll,
I am sorry if my reply to the above insults your idea of decorum. From the short forms you use I can deduce your attention span.
There is no need to disparage another' write-up to feel tough.
It was not written for your comprehension.
Thanks for understanding,

There are no jobs!!!!!!!!!!

I repeat

There are no jobs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oga loads of people preached same to me when I was leaving UK to come undertake NYSC in 2014 but lies . I've secured two job offers without knowing anybody ( one at a top tech company and another at one of the old generation banks and even waiting on another ). I've also found that my mindset is somewhat different from the average Nigerian graduate. I'm not trying to say many Nigerian graduates aren't at par but the lack of exposure is obvious on how many Nigerian university graduates behave.

op has made some valid points, but it all boils down to the individual involved. And those shouting that if you like go Harvard, there is still no job without connection are wrong. You can't go to schools like Stanford, LSE, imperial college, Yale and be jobless.I believe there are jobs but the reason for unemployment in Nigeria is the skills gap between schooling and industrial demands. How many Nigerian trained finance graduate understand Financial modelling, how many social science graduate can use SpSs,how many students know what their field is all about and the latest improvements in it.

OP, studying abroad is great and all. But there is nothing worse than doing that and not getting work 2,3 sometimes 4 years after grad. (worst case scenario). I've got friends with degrees in Law, Engineering, The Sciences who got back and are working in small businesses, sales jobs and last but not least smashing their heads on the proverbial "oil and gas" wall. And sometimes it can be more of a hindrance than an advantage. Imagine going in for a job interview only to be dropped not because you have poor interview skills, but because they expect that with your qualifications, you would be more likely to leave them soon?!!. That has been my experience, on not less than two occasions. So please by all means travel, but know this. Your international degree (MSc) might not be worth the paper its printed on... HAVE AN EXIT PLAN!
Re-invent yourself, start a small business, alone or with business partners

The problem we have with ourselves is failure to research. I see no reason why somebody will spend 6.8 million naira just to get masters and on his return to naija, he becomes hopeless.
Before we do anything, we need to research these countries, their economy and job availability.
Why should I go to UK and do my masters, when the law says on completion you must return back to ur country. Almost all countries in Europe are bullshit apart from Germany, Netherland, switzerland that have good policies favoring foreigners. Apart from that I will always tell people to always focus on Canada and US where you are entitled to Post Graduate work permit after your education and you can look for job and then apply for PR.
The OP is right, employers love to have those with foreign experience in their establishment. The course we study matters a lot too.
I didn't study abroad but was opportune to have worked in one of the biggest companies in the world situated in South-east Asia just for few time.
And since I came back, I have gotten like 4 offers. And i'm seriously looking for money and gathering it bit by bit to to move out of this country.
The pay outside the country is far higher than those working in chevron here. It is something that I have witnessed. Employers in Nigeria always underpay you no matter what.
If you have money to study outside the country, consider US, Canada, Germany, South Korea, China,Netherland, and Japan.

First of all the assumption that people go to seek foreign education with the hope of staying back and working in UK or France is wrong . I had it at the back of my mind that I was only seeking western education and not western work permit . Thus I did not submit a single job application after studying in UK. While I was there the Nigerian economy was booming with crude selling at $100+ p/b with many people I knew living well in Lagos/Abuja , acquiring properties and all. So I was eager to finish and return to Nigeria . So I never regarded a UK or US education as a waste. I got a contract job during NYSC and was granted two hours weekly to go participate in the weekly CDS. Two weeks after NYSC my status was upgraded from a contract role to a fulltime role. Got another fulltime job few months later .
