Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by back2sender: 5:01pm On Aug 29, 2016 |
erico2k2:Oga erico2k2 this not acceptable at all. This is a reaping off by the cement manufacturers, Govt should allow importation of cement to force down the price because Dango baba and CO dont have any basis to increase this, naa dem dey enjoy this forex regime of this government and electricity dey. The volume of construction has gone down so there should be a fall in the price and not increase. |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by jossy26: 5:30pm On Aug 29, 2016 |
The price will come down in a while, the increase is not sustainable |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Dieumerci(m): 6:13pm On Aug 29, 2016 |
olapluto: From what I got from a distributor: Dangote has not officially increased the price of cement but the company has refused to accept fresh payment since mid last week. According to the distributor, it is either the company has issues with their banks or they may be planning to increase the price. The increase we are experiencing is because the major distributors are hoarding the cement. Once they started accepting payment, we can then tell whether the increment would remain or not. UPDATE The company has started accepting payment at N2,100 per bag, so the price will stable around N2,200 per bag till further changes. |

jossy26:nah how to prevent moisture be the koko |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by jossy26: 6:29pm On Aug 29, 2016 |
^^^, Yea if you got a means to prevent moisture your cement can stay as long as you want it to, Nigeria is currently producing more cement than we require so I don't think importing is a good idea now not even with the current forex crisis. Eventhough the manufacturers want to jack up prices but not this much; not sustainable, every other product in naija has increased lately so cement won't be an exception. |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by gbadexy(m): 6:35pm On Aug 29, 2016 |
erico2k2:It's almost impossible. Cements generally have best use before duration from production date. It still absorbs water vapor. The moisture content increases and it's strength reduces. Same thing with gypsum cement or any material that react by hydration. There is partial hydration from vapor already. I think the standard is within or less than 6 months. |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Juokorow(m): 7:00pm On Aug 29, 2016 |
jossy26: The cost of manufacturing cement is not directly proportional to foreign currency exchange rate changes. Thus, it is inconceivable that a 100% spike in cement price in less than 10 months is justifiable and sustainable when vital macro and micro economic indicators (gross national income/revenue, gross domestic product, employment rate, earned wage/benefits payment, disposal income, etc) are contracting. Unless cement using construction by governmental entities and Nigerians abroad (exchange rate equalization of Naira price increase of commodities) can offset and supplant the overall lower demand by our local private sector, individuals and businesses, the new price of cement will fall to appropriate equilibrium with supply. If, as I think, current and foreseeable demand will trail supply, drastic recent price increases can not sustain; Dongote etc may have to cut production or sit on their excess supply. Oil boom and curruption based excess liquidity is very low; money river no-dey-flow like before; austerity dey every corner! Then again, this is Nigeria! Proven economic theories and experiences may not jive/rhyme or stick. Good luck to those of us who are irrevocably committed to commencing or completing their build! God dey! 2 Likes |

Beulah09: Big maybe! Even in major market-based "capitalist" economies, e.g USA, monopolies or near monopolies, particularly in important sectors of the economy are more closely regulated. You cannot limit cement import, concede domestic production to a few mega manufacturers, monopoly, and fail to ensure against monopolistic profit! Assuming that planned and ensuing massive federal infrastructure programs could strain normal total public and private sector demand for vs supply of cement, govt should plan for price stabilization by, among other measures, granting provisional import licenses, leveraging regs. to sustain price moderating supply levels by monopolies. Again, I know, " this na naija". Must we accept it? We can acknowledge, without conceding the propriety or lacking of) the way we dey roll! |

twinskenny: Bros how far, just that I get too much work lined up. I had to rush in this morning to buy from unsuspecting sellers who may not have heard the news but failed. However I bought another 100 bags from a far market at N2000 in Enugu today. I also swooped on iron rods today, got about 8 tons or more paid and waiting for when I will need it. We just need to be proactive in this regime. |
