He played only 139 minutes of UCL football and 17 league games in his ONE and ONLY season for Porto and, and was moved on for relative change, so I'm not sure how invested Porto were in the guy.

It's not that difficult to be best player at AFCON. A couple of months ago there was a big disvussion on the Manyoo thread about the apparent lack of tactically aware African footballers.

Atsu has gone to Everton and flopped. Same Everton that were so desperate for wingers that they signed Deulofeu and Aaron Lennon on loan and later purchased them outright. Deulofeu is even younger than Atsu sef and he saw shirt.

Atsu was compering with thr likes of Aiden Mcgeady and Arouna Kone for space on the flank. Considering how crap these guys were, any decent winger would have gotten the nod on that left flank at least.

At Bournemouth the story is even worse, Matt Ritchie had the right wing locked, but on the left flank there was virtually no competition. Max Gradel was injured all season, and Eddie Howe chose to play Marc Pugh(a 10) at left wing instead of the Afcon best left winger.

If you can't get a shirt at not 1, not 2 but THREE EPL clubs, then you're definitely not EPL material

I completely understood your point, but I felt that your post had to be countered because the meat of it amounted to "Atsu is a good player that was let down by the loan system". Atsu wasn't 'good enough for Porto'. He played only 681 league minutes in total in his only season for Porto which works out at around[b] 7.5 games[/b]. In the UCL he never started for Porto and only managed 139 minutes in total which is less than 2 games.

I'm not sure what you saw with your own eyes, but between February and close of the season, the boy only played 336 minutes(completing 90 minutes only once) for Porto...That's less than 4 games, so he clearly didn't break into the Porto first team, which explains why he was sold so cheaply.

The vast majority of the players at AFCON play in the lower divisions of the lower ranked leagues of Europe. Some play in crappy African leagues. only a few play like AUbameyang , Yaya Toure etc play at the top level. Should I have to remind you that Nigeria's number1 goalkeeper was playing in League 1 only 2 years ago, and is playing in the championship now, or that the Ivory Coast keeeper plays for TP Mazembe of Togo?

So No, Atsu is crap, and that's why the loan system has not worked for him in the EPL. His stint with Vitesse though, was a relative success, so that is probably the level where he belongs.
