This doesn't apply in Africa. Unless you are hopping from another job for greener pastures undecided

The OP just nailed it. When I got my first job at Onitsha this year, I didn't just bother about what was contained in the employment letter, I understood everything quite alright but because of the excitement I overlooked it. And when I resumed work, from the first day through my observation that this place was an unhealthy system, what was inside the letter was not what I was doing, Gossip/amebo everywhere, you resume 7am and close 8 -9pm, you work for like 30-40 days before they pay you salary. I left after some months, and not quite long, most of my colleagues that we were recruited together left too.
So be careful and always do your investigation properly..
Job that will not give you time to rest or think of your future is a dangerous work. Since then i've gotten like 3 jobs and the one i'm doing now is okay and far better.

Conincidentally, I worked in Onitsha and experienced similar situation with you.
The goodnews is that I resigned last month.
I agree with the OP perfectly and while the excuse of us being in Nigeria is the legitimate excuse we all give, I believe it takes a person with great vision and future goals to see beyond just taking up any job were your most productive years are ripped off.
The truth, A beggar has no choice.
Be your Boss. The start is crazy but in the long run it pays off best

It may sound strange, but people still reject job offers.
