LagosismyHome: Mustghan: Pls house, m having a challenge concerning my sis. She went to d state on d fullbrigjt exchange program in Yale university. She came back after a yr and re applied for her MSC in TESOL. I recommended dis thread for her before she went for her interview. Straight away, she got her visa and had completed d course. Infact, I helped my mum fill in her visa application in March to visit her and coached her for the interview. All d knowledge I got on this thread, (Thanks to God and big gbosa for dis thread). Now, my sista wanna stay back in d state, well that's no bad idea. She applied for OPT and got a job as an adjunct officer in a community college in Houston. She had married a naija guy who is a resident in d registry in Houston BT she said she is afraid to file it cos the might come up with her exchange agreement which is for her to go back to naija after the program. She is kinda troubled, how will she go abt it to change her visa . she doesn't want to come to naija now until she gets her residents visa. [/quote] My opinion is based on what he said. The case of your friend is different and not applicable here from my understanding. I really don't see an issue if she went back to Nigeria and Re-applied using the F1 route except she is still on the Exchange program. 1 Like |

osahons9: I am no expert but i mentioned my friend because the Fulbright usually comes with a 2 years rule as well. You are allowed to change from it to F1- Opt to accomodate additional training but if u want to stay further on any other visa or u will not be allowed unless you get a waiver for the 2 years mandatory returning back (only f1 or b2 visa switch is allowed ) . Mustghan if ur sister spent on year already before f1 then she has only 1 year left so worse case she can go back to naija for a year and return back or speak to an immigration expert on how to waive the returningback requirement or maybe like my friend prove that going back will cause economic hardship to her spouse |

LagosismyHome: Na wa oh, she met an immigration lawyer who advised her to wait for a awhile bfr she file her change in marital status. D husband works as a correction officer in Houston and planning to join d navy soon. Will his service in d military give his wife a better chance. M asking dis qxtn so that one knows wat to pray abt. Talk of popman, he wants her to be home BT I need to support her till she can find her feet |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 10 by LagosismyHome(f): 9:58pm On Aug 31, 2016 |
Mustghan: The lawyer i guess knows its difficult to get a waiver and the rules is that she will be ineligible to apply for change of status to Green card , K status or even H1b ....until after 2 years giving back has been done. ....so i dont think military wife would make a different..... well one year goes quickly sha so she can hang in there marry and just come chill in Naija and then go back..... or she tries another immigration lawyer to get a second opinion 1 Like |

Mustghan: I think the process takes time than for a USC. That's why people wait until they become citizen before filing residency for another person. Mustghan: This is US not Nigeria. Everything follows due process. You should do whatever advise your immigration lawyer gives you. |

LagosismyHome: I will have to ask her to tell her lawyer abt "proofing that her departure might cause hardship" to d husband and see wat d lawyer's response will be. Or better still let her chk anoda lawyer whom she must have convinced dat her departure might cause hatdship to d husband. Abi wat do u think? Thanks so m enlightened |

Mustghan: Well everycase is different and what worked for A mightnot for B.... but in my friend case She is doctor who had finished residency in the US so her earning power was good and her husband although a naija but citizen hasnt done much career wise so he was almost earning below poverty line self to file for her ..... that helped with the proof i guess among other things they had to show but really it was their lawyer who provided them guidance ... Your sister can present that line of reasoning to her lawyer (economic hardship ) and see if he can package her story or advice her |

OluDare01: Separate access code is costly than textbook. So if you'd need the access code for quizzes or assignment, it's better you spend the money once and buy the complete book. |

Hello Guys! Please I am new on the US thread. I have been awake from midnight going through all US student threads but I am still not clear on some things. I have a brother and his wife who are planning on relocating to the USA. Either one of them plans to come on student visa. Or one person could have student status and file for the other spouse. Please what's the best way around it? Basic aim is to settle down in the US at the end of the day and both plan to work. Please does a student visa allow them (student & spouse) to work? The wife has a first class in International relations though, so she is the one most likely be the one to come for study and her husband will join her as soon as possible. After getting to US how soon can they both start working? Please help a brother here. Please |
