In logo design, simplicity is king.
The modern trend in Logos is 'flat' design.

Your logo looks Elizabethan.

Imagine that logo on a Lapel pin or a Pen.

Follow the best examples. simplify.

Nice observation. @OP I'll encourage you to embrace and apply *flat modern* design in all your works. It leaves a simple uncomplicated and professional feel. Just remodel your logo with flat modern design for instance and see what a difference it'll make.
Also in case something like this comes up again, give it a circular structure like the one that was picked. It's sort of the trend of the day (refer to man city new badge logo for example. It incorporated flat modern and circular design)
Good job nonetheless.

@op, 'welcoming' who? in a logo. May be u designed an Entrance Gate emblem or something... I dont understand. One guy mentioned; 'a primary school pupil should be able to trace the logo easily'... try to find his comment and meet him in person, he has a lot to offer! Good luck anyway.

You would have tried something serene, yours look like a war logo
One elephant is OK and it shouldn't have been too prominent. All I see is too big elephant and Abia state shouldn't all be about elephant. You should have mildly capture every other thing.
This your emblem should be suitable for Abiriba and Ohafia war dance.
U guys have said it all. No need to add more yabs to the OP's logo.
Simply put, I prefer the other logo which the govt selected. It was simple and it captured all relevant details about the state without being too busy.
Then the motto was the bomb. "Prosperity through enterprise"
OP, go and rest. You were good but other guys were better than u.
It is a big lesson to u. Work harder to become the best.

How Abia State Government Turned Down My Logo Design, Be The Judge (pics)

The New Abia Logo was unveiled few days ago and I received the news with shock. I pursued this logo for over 2yrs and in the end another logo was chosen.

*August 2013*
There was a call/announcement for submission of prospective state emblems through the BCA (Broadcasting Cooperation of Abia State) radio. I visited BCA and was directed to submit my entry with the office of the Secretary to the State Government, then headed by Dr. Nkpa O. Nkpa. Mine was later chosen and I was assigned to work with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Chief. Nathan Harbour. After a number of corrections, insertions and modifications, Chief. Harbour introduced me to the then commissioner for Information, Dr.Eze Chikamnayo, who took special interest on delivering the emblem; further adjustments were made on the emblem. However, towards preparations for the 2015 elections all matters on the state emblem initiative vanished and this is a bit understandable given the demands of our electioneering in this part of the world.
With a new government in place, I drafted and sent several proposals and reminder on the emblem, in addition with an anthem & a flag. Incidentally, on October 1, 2015 the governor called for entries on a state emblem and anthem and I again submitted mine and followed up, constantly sending reminders to the governor's social media platforms. I also exchanged mails with the Chief Press Secretary C. N. Nwakodo on several occasions concerning the entry.

Disappointed? Maybe

I am a bit disappointed not that my entry missed out on being selected for the state emblem, but that my work in every way can challenge and best the current choice in criteria as quality, interpretation and order. I put in my best with logo standards like that of Lagos and Osun state. But I will let my fellow Nairalanders be the judge.

Dear Mods, help me take this news up..
The Abia Logo beat yours Hands down! Your Logo is a Product of Corel Draw.... The Abia Logo is a Produl of Afobe Illustrator... Illustrations Have Great Power!

Im sorry to say this, your version is actually all over the place, its too busy and the one chosen is simple, neat and bold. Nonetheless you should learn a thing or two from this. Simplicity is the key.

There is beauty in simplicity.

Your design is too crowded.

Looks at corporate logos around, they are simple and symbolic.

*diam0nd bank

*bmw

* gucci

*fcmb

And the list is endless

you really tried. one thing that captures my attention most in your own logo is that Abia tower, followed by the Igbo cap however, the name Abia state Nigeria, without government, is not enough to give much legal attention to documents carrying such headings m remember that the logo will be made into "stamp" for official document purpose. to make the matter worse, the elephant have their hands on the Abia state pressing it downward when it should have been held up high.
the base lines show something like black white black against the green white green on the other one.
,
I think little modifications and he did a near-perfect job,meanwhile op,d then SSG,is a Professor not a Dr.,tnx

Awwwwwww, so sorry dear
In all honesty, its very beautiful and elegant, but like a lot of people have clearly put it out to you (in all sincerity), your version had a lot going on and that made it too bulky (or busy as they rightly put).
The Governor (or the panel of judges) wanted something SIMPLE but still had that Elegance, Class and Style in it and most importantly The Message its trying to portray.
Once again, I really love your work.. I pray more opportunities would come your way. Don't stop working, don't stop trying like a told one of my boys today, when you flop, try again!
Shallom!

I would have made neccessary corrections on your logo and accepted it. the other logo looks like a United States template complete with stars. We should be original and i think its the originality I admire in your Logo

Cheers

both logos are really good.
However yours is old school ....
Clients are more inclined to pick a 2d flat design ... as this is the trend this days

You should creatively merge both designs
