Dyslexia; Mental Effect- A Must-read For Every Scholar. by Nobody: 8:32am On Sep 03, 2016
This write-up is inspired by a movie a watched recently- Like Stars on Earth and a question that popped-up from a student of Obafemi Awolowo University in my just concluded Students’ Online Submit. And I believe people are also suffering from this same ailment(Dyslexia). In such way, being neglected by neglect of parents and friends. Who knows you may have partial Dyslexia.
Dyslexia , also known as reading disorder , is characterized by trouble with reading despite normal intelligence.Different people are affected to varying degrees.Problems may include difficulties in
spelling words, reading quickly, writing words , “sounding out” words in the head , pronouncing words when reading aloud and understanding what one reads. Often these difficulties are first noticed at school.
N.B
When someone who previously could read loses their ability, it is known as
alexia .
The difficulties are involuntary and people with this disorder have a normal desire to learn.
The cause of dyslexia is believed to involve both genetic and environmental factors. Mostly genetic.
Some cases run in families. It often occurs in people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and is associated with similar difficulties with numbers. It may begin in adulthood as the result of a traumatic brain injury,
stroke , or dementia. The underlying mechanisms of dyslexia are problems within the brain ‘s language processing. Dyslexia is diagnosed through a series of tests of memory, spelling, vision, and reading skills.
You must know Dyslexia is separate from reading difficulties caused by hearing or
vision problems or by insufficient teaching.
Celebrities Who has Onced be affected by Dyslexia
There are some celebrities that had though time focusing as a kid, but found their way out of the menace. People like ;
Swimmer Michael Phelps holds the record for winning the most Olympic medals. He has ADHD and was
hyperactive as a child. “I was always the kid who was running around,” he said . “I literally couldn’t sit still.” His mother used his love of swimming to regain his focus.

Long ago, before Whoopi Goldberg was diagnosed with dyslexia and before she knew how common this learning issue is, kids in school called her “dumb.” But her mother told her not to listen to them. Her
mom told her she could be anything she wanted to be. Goldberg believed her and grew up to become a comedian and talk-show host—and one of only about a dozen people to have won a Grammy, an Academy Award, an Emmy and a Tony Award.
If you consider the life’s of the two celebrities above, you will see that their mother has a great significance in their lifes. The parents as a huge role to play in helping their kids over come this.
Causes
Eventhough researches had not been able establish a certified cause, the following can be considered.
The cerebellar theory of dyslexia proposes that impairment of cerebellum-controlled muscle movement affects the formation of words by the tongue and facial muscles, resulting in the fluency problems that are characteristic of some dyslexics. The cerebellum is also involved in the
automatization of some tasks, such as reading.
The fact that some dyslexic children have motor task and balance impairments has been used as evidence for a cerebellar role in their reading difficulties. However, the cerebellar theory is not supported by controlled research studies.
Management
People with Dyslexia can be helped to regain their wellness through the use of compensation strategies, therapy and educational support, dyslexic individuals can learn to read and write. There are techniques and technical aids which help to manage or conceal symptoms of the disorder.Removing stress and anxiety alone can sometimes improve written comprehension.
For dyslexia intervention with alphabet-writing systems, the fundamental aim is to increase a child’s awareness of correspondences between graphemes (letters) and
phonemes (sounds), and to relate these to reading and spelling by teaching how sounds blend into words. It has been found that reinforced collateral training focused on reading and spelling yields longer-lasting gains than oral phonological training alone.
Early intervention – that is done in children at a young age– can be successful in reducing reading failure, so parents must be conversant with their kids.
Dyslexia is not a deadly ailment but just a malfunctioning of the brain. If discovered early it brightens the hope of the victim.

I have a kid brother, he just needs listens to music or any form of conversation once and the next minute he would drop it without skipping a word. But there is a problem. He has zero concentration when it comes to writing, in fact he hates writing. Even when you hold his hands to show him what to or where to write the boy would not even look at the book. I am afraid because i know he has a sharp brain but just lack of focus and after watching that movie i shed tears. I wish to help him but i don't know how to start it. My parents are not literate and not in the high class. Please suggest ways in our little means we can help the boy.

The solutions is written above.
But illiteracy of your parent is a great hurdle that needs to be bypassed. You need to convince them that the problem he may be having is something small and not in any way align to his unseriousness or metaphysical power.

Give him and his parents your trust and help him. Dyslexic individuals are most times extra-ordinary.
please help him
