Nemesis2u, have you ever heard the story of how US apaches were struggling to keep up with chinooks in Afghanistan? Due to their superior speed. |
Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by Nobody: 2:14am On Sep 03, 2016 |
jakeporeshenko: nah never heard of the story. apaches struggling to keep up with chinooks ? how is that possible , provided apache has all its systems up and running 100% and not tied to a mountain or something i am very little informed on these matters especially relating to US platforms. anyways plz share the story |
Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by tdayof(m): 3:50am On Sep 03, 2016 |
Odunayaw:Some countries operate more than a single SAM type that's what I am trying to say. Bro you said we don't have a threat but that's because we and our neighbouring countries are village champions. |
Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by andrewza: 9:57am On Sep 03, 2016 |
tdayof: And what advantage does operating more than one system give Nigeria? Nigeria does not need a high cost SAM system. The Rolland, AA guns and manpads are good enough for any possible threat Nigeria could face. Though are those Rolland's still useable. Missiles do have a use by date |

bidexiii: actually it was made by germany, the germans r known for outlandish attempts however i could not find any details on the same. the working principle will same as that of any other silencer/sound muffler. i remember for emergency we were taught to tape the barrel of the semi automatic and jam in a plastic bottle filled with sand etc. good for one shot only |
Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by tdayof(m): 10:31am On Sep 03, 2016 |
andrewza:What I was trying to explain is some countries operate various sophisticated SAM and Nigeria still operates a damn Rolland. We are africans do not mean we should not keep up with others on technology. We do not need to start facing threat before we take actions. The rolland Nigeria operates has a low spec. Short Range, low altitude , doesn't use a sophisticated radar system. I am sorry but our Rolland will go down by just rushing some noise at its radar systems. A Mig-29 will also deliver a missile attack on our territory with the Rolland not bringing it down even at range. |
Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by andrewza: 10:44am On Sep 03, 2016 |
tdayof: Sure but who's Mig-29? No one in your area as a aircraft that is a threat, there are no major air powers close to Nigeria and getting a new SAM system will lead to funds being wasted. Rather get some good Aircraft than a good SAM since the SAM can do one thing and one thing only. I mean by the sounds of things you want one of the High end SAM systems like the patriot. A very costly system, that wont stop low flying targets and are pretty much stationary due to there set up time. You still going to need something along the lines of the Roland. |

Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by Odunayaw(m): 1:13pm On Sep 03, 2016 |
giles14:Even if it is Rafales we get..it doesn't oust the importance of having at least a contemporary SAM system e.g pantsyr s2(16 units to replace our Roland) And I agree with Andrew on MANPADs and AA guns at least its very useful in our neighborhood |

tdayof:Maiduguri is a FAB.all jets must not b stationed at d tactical command. above all how are we even sure d Chadian MIGs are airworthy |
Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by Nobody: 2:10pm On Sep 03, 2016 |
tdayof: Not true. We have the TRACON system providing 360 all round radar coverage of Nigeria. Before they get into our Air space, the air force would have mobilised intercepts from maiduguri. We don't yet have the JF-17, however, with the F-7s, it's still the same idea. Also bear in mind our F-7s can be armed with potent PL-9C missiles which we have in service. 1 Like |
