How Hard Is It To Drive A Manual Car In Lagos by Sashafm(f): 12:10pm On Sep 03, 2016
I am about to get a car, and the option available to me is to get a manual car which is 2 million lesser or I go for the same car but the automatic version.
I am quite concerned because of the price of the car but my colleagues are advising me not to even think about the manual car because of traffic. I am of the opinion that I can learn how to drive the manual car and not get too stressed while driving.
Please I need advice from experienced drivers, is driving a manual car that terrible in Lagos?

This is my opinion
1. Manual cars are cheap to maintain
2. Manual cars are interesting to drive
3. You are always in control
4. Fuel economy is always better
5. When battery weak you push to start
6. Same when the kickstarter is bad
7. YOU MAKE YOUR FINAL BUYING DECISION

What about the stress of changing gears do you think, it's wise for a lady in Lagos traffic?

If you buying for pleasure it's worth it, if you buying for price you will regret it. Driving a manual in Lagos traffic isn't easy, you are not only concentrating you are also calculating
Clutch, change gear to move quickly depress gear to quickly brake, notice that most traffic hits of bumper to bumper it's mostly manual slamming into others.

Manual breaking record back to back

I sold my kia rio manual and bought same type and colour automatic because of lagos traffic.

Do not buy a manual car in lagos, you will regret it in the short run.

Buy a manual, its fun to drive and keeps u awake. Its not as bad as it looks. I drive a company truck and its manual. Most of the time you do not have to keep the clutch depressed, learn engine braking and stuffs like that. As a matter of fact this is my 8th month in lagos and i want to tell you that i love it. I am looking to pickup a manual car for myself soon. What a man can do, a woman can do as well. It will only make you smarter on the road compared to lazying around applying makeup in traffic like most ladies with automatic car do.

Listen to this opinion and you will regret it even the almighty Gazzuzz says no. Yes I will buy a manual and use it in Lagos traffic but I also have an automatic so anytime I know traffic would be cumbersome I just prefer to drive the automatic.

We are talking about traffic here if you are too slow, drivers at the back will "deafen" your ears with horn.

You have to clutch down severally and be perfect at it, too slow your engine will die on you, you have to throw gears perfectly or Rev engine too much if you decide to rough it with gear 1. You are lucky Lagos roads are tarred I remember my days in kano. I was heading to sabon Gari "if you have been to kano you will know how the traffic for the street light by the army barracks just before the zaria road" nah him I follow golf taxis enter uneven road for traffic to climb back was a pain until a good Samaritan offered to wait for me seeing the way I was sweating just to get the car to climb. People won't naturally give way so it becomes hard to accelerate and quickly brake with a manual shift.

My sister, don't try it... I repeat DON'T TRY IT.
If you wanna buy a manual, buy it because you love manual cars. Not for cost or prestige (y'know that accolade that comes with being a female manual driver in Nigeria...lols)

Yes, it helped me be very calculative and focused but in the long run, I ended up with yam leg and a strained waist. I couldn't even bend or flip over in bed... grin
N.B This wasn't even in Lagos o

There are 2 million reasons to pick what type of transmission will be in your next car, but since you are buying a Kia Rio I have an offer for you.

Will you like me to pay you N2000 for everyday you drive the manual car for as long as you own the car.

Considering how long a first time owner of the Rio will own the car and the price on a used Rio you are better off in the manual.

You will hate it(rio auto) and sell it within 2 years, in this economy you might be better off saving N2m now than losing it to depreciation .Automatic transmission is not worth $5k difference in price.

This sounds like your first car, and if you don't even know how to drive in the first place, the manual will be a cheap starter car.

My idea might sound Ludicrous but for those who have owned a RIO it is not a car people usually drive for more than 3 years. It is better to have N2m extra in your pocket when trying to sell a used car than trying to sell for N2m more than the other manual in the market.

Manual has lot of advantage but ppl choose automatic due to less stress.

I won't advice you to put 2m or 2m + on a kia product. Toyota is better.

If you are having any doubt get Auto staright up
Shift stick can be stressful on traffic in as much as its fun when you drive a shift stick.

I drive a lexus with both auto and manual option, though the manual part is semi manual I still switch to it at times but if you have your doubts go for auto

A woman driving a manual car is a recipe for disaster.

Can your flappy hands even handle the physical strain?

Can your shawarma diet fuel your body?

Please avoid manual cars.

Manual for a woman is a NO NO.

We ve long passed that age. A woman can learn with a manual car but it's more advisable to go for automatic when it's for personal use.

I use a manual car , thought my wife how to drive it. But am planning to get her an Auto.

Better a smaller auto than a big manual.

If you can drive a manual car well in lagos traffic you are good but before then you go hear "when"....just go for the auto,it's what all ladies go for.

You can only catch me driving manual if I am in a very remote area e.g village. The stress of changing gear in traffic is no joke at all

Your views are very erroneous! What makes Gazzuzz almighty? You speak recklessly and myopically. So simply because he sold his manual transmission Kia others can't or don't use manual transmission in Lagos? If I may ask are all brt buses not kitted with manual transmission? Are all danfo not manual transmission? All LT buses are running on manual transmission! So what kind of jibber jabber are you spewing about manual transmission? Next time be sure that you know about what is being discussed before passing irritating opinions......yebo? Yebo is a Zulu word used for clarity or emphasis....
