You people need Lagos more than Lagos needs you. That's what you've failed to realize. You see the likes of Ifesinachi and Young shall grow filled up with able-bodied youth trooping into Lagos daily and you're talking about leaving Lagos. Even when Fashola deported some then, the cries from your brothers were unprecedented and you talk of leaving Lagos. Don't make me laugh please. So much for lazy Yorubas. That's you lots problem. You folk keep on banging on ignorantly about oil companies in Lagos. Do oil companies pay tax to Lagos State? This is something people keep repeating like zombies. Personal income tax is what accrues to states while company tax goes to the FG. Now what proportion of oil industry workers are in Lagos?

Theres nothing worth gloating about in the stuppid and mischevous comparisms of that funky emir,its all about wickedness and greediness and ingratuity towards the niger delta that has been a beast of burden of the nation since the advent of oil. Majority of operators of oil blocs are northerners..
Afonjas are here,shinning their teeth and smilling and smilling for the man's antics,but time shall come,after the ravaging,when he or another abboki will emerge and compare with kano or bornu..afterall,inspite of the whole lagos is this and that,it is on national record that kano is still more populated than a whole lasgidi and enjoying the benefits accruing to that.

That is what they keep saying but they wouldn't let ND region and the oil rest. The last time I checked their is port in rivers and delta why are the ports not working if the FG is sincere. Most of the oil companies are paying huge revenue to the Lagos state government monthly yet some fools will just wake up and talking rubbish

This confirms the envy of niger delta by other regions.I ask all the money used for the building of ports and bridges and roads in lagos where did they come from?The income tax from working in oil companies that should be in the niger delta? The over 500 billion dollars that has accrued from oil since the 60s.Even gas, the md of NLNG just said in the past 4 yrs LNG brought 20billion dollars and 6billion dollars in tax.Does lagos bring this?How much foreign exchange does lagos generate?all because lagos generates 240 billion naira a year which is not up to 1billion dollars.

Silly comment. 50% or more of the IGR to Lagos State comes from the Oil companies and headquaters at Lagos. The tank farms of local products apart from imported ones come from Niger Delta but taxes are paid to Lagos. Sanusi sounds sentimental here. Even if you mention solar as the next frontier, does it mean sun doesnt shine at ND ? Shutdown Niger Delta oil and all the oil companies headquarters at Lagos disappears and 50% of IGR with the land use charges of properties owned by oil workers disappear.

no. The tax those companies pay on the oil they drill goes to the FG. The only tax paid to the LASG, it that which the workers at the oil company's HQ pay. But majority of the big earners (the engrs) of those companies do not live or work in Lagos; they live and work in the ND and pay their taxes there. So what exactly are you saying here?

I think there are many people here who just cannot bear it that Lagos is doing well on its own.

First of all, the ports revenues go the federal government, and Lagos does not get a kobo from it, same as the airport.

Second, the 50% claim is a big joke right? with a city this ? grin

Thirdly, what really makes Lagos what it is is the informal sector of the economy, in which most Lagosians thrive on.

If you know how much is generated from the markets here grin
It is very HUGE.
That is why Lagos coped when OBJ decided to withold Lagos revenues.

Do that to any other state, and see how that state crumble.

Lastly, the bulk of the taxes in the oil industry goes to the FG; what goes to the state is income tax from the workers, and how many workers are in the oil industry HERE?

it's really high time..let their be stiff competitions amongst states...it's actually pathetic the way things are...

This is what I have been all about when I scream about regionalism or state autonomy...it's for the other states to reaize that they can grow..we all have to leave Lagos to our various states to enjoy life..

The mistake of GEJ administration has spoken again! how much is Lagos contributing to the national purse? I don't need to convince anybody here.we can build twenty Lagos in the ND,then divert our economy if we wish.very common king.a rabble rouser can never make a good king.thank God, you people are beginning to discover that the oil will no longer come cheaply.go to PMB and ask him why he is looking for oil in the north if really Lagos was better ND.

okay.. everyone has forgotten that Lagos igr also comes from the oil coys that operates in the Niger Delta, insurance company that insure these companies, banks that directly bank with these companies and so on.. maybe you should check out an oil worker tax. the economist forgot that it is a chain reaction..

Please get your facts right,Oil companies pay tax on behalf of their staff stationed in the Niger delta to the host community and not Lagos.

why not take a walk into the oil companies in Lagos and see how many their staffs are.. so you will know that the bulk of the job is done in Lagos
