The flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in the September 10, Edo governorship elections, got a boost yesterday, following his radiant performance at the gubernatorial debate organized by Channels Television between the candidates in the governorship race.

The debate saw candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Godwin Obaseki; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osagie Ize- Iyamu; All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Osaro Onaiwu and Amos Areolegbe of the Labour Party (LP) slugging out in a robust debate, which had journalists and stake- holders in attendanceIn the debate, the various candidates assured the electorate that priority would be given to security of life and property in the state, with all expressing concern over the scary security situation in Edo.

One of the high-points during the debate was the moment Ize-Iyamu lambasted the APC alleging that the party plunged the state into disaster within the eight years of being power.

Ize-Iyamu stole the debate session by setting the atmosphere of the debate, with qualitative criticism of other candidates,

He lamented that the administration of Governor Oshiomhole had earned not less than N1.4trillion but still borrowed $150million from the World Bank.

He said: “This is a government that has got the privilege to have close to N1.4trillion and yet they have carried the state into high level of indebtedness. “In the past two years alone, they borrowed $150 million from the World Bank. Look at the exchange rate now, and that money is supposed to be paid back in dollars. And they say they have economic adviser. I believe this government has been a disaster.”

The PDP candidate ex- pressed disappointment that the Oshiomhole government had performed woefully, after he left the cabinet as Secretary to the State Government, in the first term.

However, Obaseki who was on the defensive, promised to consolidate on measures taken so far by the outgoing governor, Adams Oshiomhole, which he noted have helped to reduce crime in the state.

Meanwhile, Onaiwu maintained that his administration would lit up the streets, invest in neighborhood watch and the police, while Areloegbe, spoke in similar vein.

APC can only win Edo governorship polls through gross election rigging, aided by police & army.

Edo people, vote & defend your votes.

VAnguard is a PDP newspaper. We will we all agree that Channels TV is more Neutral. We can say Vanguard cancel Nations newspaper as PDP and APC newspaper. But with Channels TV which is neutral giving the vote to Obaseki of APC, it is fair to say Obaseki of APC won the debate.
Ize iyamu was just ranting and attacking, while Obaseki was articulating points on how he will move edo forward. To sound minds Obaseki won.
The online poll you showed has just 1000 votes while that of channels has 5000 votes. From statistical accuracy that of channels is clearly more representative

Obaseki ‘best at Edo poll debate’

All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Godwin Obaseki came tops after last night’s debate by candidates in Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

Three other candidates —Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osaro Onaiwu (APGA) and Amos Areleogbe (LP)— fielded questions from a team of Channels Television interviewers.

Some of those who watched the 90-minute debate rated Obaseki ahead in the way he spoke on the economy; how he would tackle the problem of insecurity in the state; plans to diversify and significantly boost the economy; and steps to tackle unemployment and create 200,000 jobs in four years.

Twenty-one old Joy Iredia, a student of the University of Benin, said: “Until now, I did not take much interest in politics. But listening to all the candidates speak, I was drawn in by the candidate of the APC, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and how kept his focus on the issues and articulated his plans to take Edo State forward, particularly the use of technology as a tool for effective governance and job creation.”

A civil servant Mr. Osahon Bello, said, “The civil service forms the major workforce in Edo State. I align with Obaseki’s plan to restructure the civil service for efficiency and productive through robust training strategies to meet the challenges of fostering strong, sustainable and balanced economic growth.”

Obaseki, a renowned investment banker and wealth management expert of over 30 years, said the economic challenges confronting the nation today are so complex that it takes someone with a full grasp of all the issues, and practical experience in solving complex economic problems to lead the state on the path to prosperity.

Referring to the ‘simple agenda’ of PDP’s Ize-Iyamu, Obaseki said: “Simple solutions cannot solve our complex political problems; they cannot solve our complex economic problems; and can definitely not solve our complex security problems. It is mental indolence to think there are simple solutions to our problems.”

He assured of better days ahead for Edo people, promising that his will be a people-oriented and inclusive government.

This will never save them.No reasonable Nigerian should ever believe in the APC as the current hardship in the land is unprecedented.

This is why Edo ppl don't need to vote for this man.
A vote for Obaseki is a vote for Oshiomhole.
