Same here. In fact, as soon as I requested for OGTT, my Dr asked if I dey deliver for USA then I said yes. because everything medical is free for me via my office insurance, I request every and any test...don't judge me grin
Additionally, if you have a strong family history of Diabetes, OGTT is in place for them to watch out for early signs.

Finally, someone already mentioned that these tests are only relevant as per certain GA. If you arrive US at 30wks+, they wont ask for OGTT except they accept the one you did in naija. Summary: that list someone shared is just a guide. Doesn't meant one single patient will do all of them.

XX01:

In my first pregnancy, i only did the ones i highlighted above. So i sent same to my obodo oyibo doctor and they asked for OGTT. I asked my Naija doctor and he said we women that go to US always ask for funny tests that are not necessary but he scheduled it for me this week.

Pls how was your transit using Lufthansa? Was it boring or stressful or fun?
I'll also appreciate update for your return leg. Thanks
For now Im looking at United, Lufth and BA. Flying from Abuja. The cheapest bidder/airline wins grin tongue

I finally got a quote of $86.40 for my baby's ticket with Lufthansa airlines as against the initial crazy quote of $356 I got earlier even after calling them on 3 different occasions and speaking with their supervisor, trying to get an explanation for the high quote.

I intend using University of Maryland St Joseph Medical Center, the cost is on their website. The Dr name is Dr Tolani you can also get her address there, but the thing is both the hospital and the doctor's office won't give you any correspondence on phone or thru email. I was there in March so I registered with them and got my appointment card too. That Dr doesn't take much patients and she gets filled up quickly also she won't take you if you are already 33 weeks.
Hopesprings:

Hi Phummy, I tried to reach out via PM, can you please share which facilities/doctor you would be using in Maryland? THanks!

It was good. Travelled with my older kids tho. They kept me busy kind of, so time ran so fast. Layover was 5hrs.

I was going to use them too but do your research on their fees and costs(St Joseph's). The estimates that I got seemed to show that the hospital costs without doctor is like $9K, after factoring in tests, epidural and doctor, it's >$12K. When we checked on the website, we assumed $5-6K for hospital costs but it seems to be higher than their estimates on the website.

Not correct. For my 2 children, I arrived US at 34 weeks and OGTT was done, used different hospitals as well. I don't even bother with all these lab tests from naija.

Will like to share my experience.
Flew Ethiopian airline on Saturday 3rd Sept from Lagos. Got to Addis Ababa 9pm their time, was taken to a hotel named Top ten (1st hotel to see no toothpaste or toiletries, you have to buy.. Lol). Left Addis Ababa 11:50 and got to Lome 5 hours later. 2 other preggos joined from Lome to Newark for 9 hours 45mins (7:15pm) Sunday 4th Sept. Ethiopian can use food to kill person.. Too much food every time. Drinks and tea too. In-flight entertainment very nice.will fly them over and over again.
Straight to POE
Cbp: how are you madam?
Me: fine but v tired
Cbp: oh sorry. Are u here for business?
Me: no, to have my baby
Cbp: when is baby due
Me: told him
Cbp: typed for a while and said he has to take me for further questions
I knew that was sec inspection but I was v calm as I have settled their matters with prayers already especially as I held just $300 dollar cash cos I didn't get PTA and wasn't ready to pay 425 naira to aboki,( got my domiciliary account funded by a friend and gave her naira yesterday).
I sat for 3 mins and was called
Cbp: you were to travel with your Mum where is she
Me: she will be coming in October
Cup: oh good, types on his computer and stamps me in till March. Said congratulations and have a safe delivery.
Shikena!!!
Went to claim my bag saw 1 out of 2. Was asked to wait for a while but I was too tired after a 36 hours journey. Went back yesterday and found nobody there. Took connecting flight to Dallas. Called the number I found online and I was told to send a mail which I did. Awaiting there response.
Pls has this happened to anyone before and still got the bag? Pls respond.
Congrats to all d new mamas. Safe delivery to all of us expecting our babies. All the best to all going for visa interview. Thanks for setting up this great forum, been very helpful. God bless everyone.

That what I was thinking too but wen LadyG said it easy to liquidate u'mean so confuse don't know what to do
mumdearest:

im of the opinion that you should go with another statement (if available). a colleague of mine was denied with lots of money in his FD account reason being that its an asset.

But as we all know what is applicable to one may not be to another.

All the best.

Remember what I gave you was my opnion and not based on any particular experience.
When in doubt, please err on the side of caution. If somebody has had a personal experience that wasn't favourable then that means you shouldn't bank much on my opinion.

Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 4 by Nnystc: 8:41pm On Sep 06, 2016
Thats easy.
Send a mail and establish a connection. Keep the mail trail flowing while you discuss details of your trip, care, pre-payment options/ or lack thereof, your planned arrival date, appointment booking, etc.

If you can follow with calls, do so. In your mails refer to those calls. That way you build up the required "correspondence"

Just had my baby with them. Overall a great experience. They are responsive to mails and calls. The doc is very nice and even took time to greet and interact with hubby and older kids when he walked into our skype conversation in the hospital room.

All the best.

Thanks. I have a visa already, it's for the POE.

Please has anyone used Turkish airline to Houston? And what was the experience, it looks like it's the cheapest at 455k, am just a little bit skeptical,
Thanks

Used Turkish to Atlanta last month
Trip was fantastic esp. Istanbul-Atl leg
I like Turkish esp cos of infant baggage allowance
I used AF/ Delta for my childbirth waka last year and I know d difference
What I noticed is that they may permit u with an excess of 1-3lbs max above ur 50lbs in terms of luggage anything after that is 80$
Also, their hand luggage policy of 8kg is very strict, they won't permit even 9kg

My people in LA, I arrived safely yesterday and have gone for my first appointment. I was quizzed by four different cbp officers, but thank God for everything. I had used my visa for vacation but cos hubby is a doctor, they couldn't buy the better healthcare stuff.

When I told them the bill is 4k,they doubted even when I showed them the correspondence from Dr and hospital. They kept on harping that I would use Medicaid that it doesn't cost less than 25k to deliver in US.

Thank God for His grace and journey mercies. Couldn't get pta anyway, had to buy at black-market.God bless our efforts and our husbands.

U re welcome.

For the bags issue, one of my bags didn't come wen I arrived LA. I filled a form at the airport and the next morning, they sent the bag to me.

Ensure you put an address in the mail so they can send the bag down.
