An incident at an airport really put me off.

This one time I was traveling by a certain airline - lets call it Amirates. My flight was going to be more than 24 hours, so lets just say I was very comfortably dressed. Now I enter the airport and started walking towards the business class queue to check in my luggage. One of the staff members approaches me and tells me please join another line - the one for Economy Class passengers. I wouldn’t have had an issue but I had paid for this ticket and I did not find that reasonable. I let him know that I was heading to the correct queue. He asked me to show my ticket. I did. He says he’s sorry, puts on those happy faces, says a thing or two and tells me to have a pleasant flight.

While this might not be a big deal, I really felt bad that how people have this biased perspective on how rich and successful people are supposed to look and behave and would not accept that looks do not define a person.

The things people will do for cheap popularity.

This question was asked on the American forum Quora. Yes, you could have asked the same question on Nairaland but you went as far as copying one of the most upvoted answers, claiming the experience as your own. This is deception, this is a lie. And it's just wrong!

Here's a link to the source: https://www.quora.com/Has-someone-treated-you-poorly-until-they-discovered-you-were-wealthy-and-or-successful/answers/27013430

Update: I see that the Op has now modified his post, referencing the source.

Well, I'm not rich but this has happened to me at the bank a few times. Dunno maybe it's cos I look really young or cos I like to dress really casual and comfortable but I have had this experience with young ladies at the bank on a few occasions.

It's like they sum me up as unimportant until they see the amount of the transaction I'm about to make then their countenance changes. Not like I'm rich but my husband does some business with my accounts and some money passes through.

Just yesterday sef, one was giving me attitude at the bank but later when she saw I was there for serious business, she started using style to play with my kid. The guys are not like that though, it's always the females.

I did it to someone, and to this day I still feel bad. cry

I was a phone sales rep way back and my typical day is filled with people wanting to see this phone and that phone plus I had to explain to them all that the phone can do angry

It's mid day I'm already exhausted from repeating myself over and over again! Here comes this guy...looking "ordinary" I've already said to myself that I won't waste my saliva on this person so I moved to another stall pretending like I'm not the one Manning the handset stand tongue

I watchd the guy looking at the phones through the glass and staring around to see if someone will come and attend to him. Finally he walked up to me and said sister aren't you the one selling those phones? Or don't I look like one who can afford your phones? embarassed

To say I was embarrassed will be an understatement! I felt bad instantly. sad

Well I apologised and rambled some excuses to him, he told me to always give people the benefit of a doubt(obviously he didn't believe my ramblings) and not be quick at passing judgements.

That "ordinary" looking man bought the
Nokia 8800 which went for 180k
Nokia lipstick phone 80k
Motorola v3 silver 100k
And the Nokia twist and turn(Carl Zeiss camera) 75k! I was speechless. lipsrsealed

He even gave me a generous tip too! I never forget that event it humbled me. grin

mine is long story but I'll make it short.

am not rich but just a regular Nigerian.
I work on site(mast), although still smaller projects so I travel to different states.

I usually dress rough since its site work and going to villages one can't dress as a well-to do-person in order to keep attention away from one's self to be safe from desperate people

I usually stay in hotels but this particular trip I stayed with a friend so I charge my phones and laptop every evening after work while giving reports and sipping my bottles. life is Good

I liked one of the reception, black beauty, nice waist, moderate booty, agbalumo tits just like I like it. but Shakara no gree her see road.

talked to her, got her number. I went there everyday but her attention towards me was almost zero. called her severally but each time she'll ask "who's talking" so embarrassing.
well, I guess I was too rough and appeared dirty. left the state

the next trip to the state this time I was there just to sign some documents. wore a cool sky blue shirt, new pant trousers, and Paul Smith shoes, hair well cut. went to the hotel to chill,, sipping my beer like always, making business calls while shouting 100s of thousands of naira at the top of my voice. LMAO.....

when this girl sited me she came around. blushing. had a cool chat with me, this time I told her where I work and live(lagos), she thought I was an inherent. lol her friend Co worker came too. had a chat. she told me some nice thing about my crush black booty girl. I was feeling fly. I was having the who day as I dressed differently from others who dressed like lol wayne near the pool. I was high so my swag was dope. the attention was fantastic

to cut the story short, I left there. called her only once and that was it. I lost interest in her. not that am rich oh but that's just a lesson. never judge people by cloth ALL THE TIME....

I have my own shared of experience when I was building a suckaway to my new apartment and the blocks were not dried enough so I have to look for alternatives for me to complete it so I can return back to my base . I contacted a woman who refused at first instance on the account that she did not know the owner of the first building and now we are requesting for blocks for another. This is a woman I helped on daily basis in fletching water from my borehole but didn't know bcoz I refused to show off. When she came home at night, she narrated her story to one of my aunty who refilled that I owned the house, am surprised to see her coming to me and knelt down begging that she's was sorry for the way she attended to me earlier because she didn't know am the owner of the houses but took me as a brother to the so called BIGMAN.

Yes, they do. You think N20million is a big deal? There are plenty people who don't announce to the whole world "I have a private jet". A jet is a vehicle to ease business, it is in Nigeria people are carrying it ontop their head as a big deal, be going to Caverton airfield to snap pictures of themselves sitting in one. And like I said, you don't know these people. I can sit down here and easily demolish any argument you make by mentioning some lastnames in my immediate presence right now. Even a picture I can take will end this argument. But I'm in no mood to argue, so you're right, I have never seen a rich person, infact my definition of wealthy is someone who has bought a tokunbo keke. Happy? cheesy

Oshey mrs dangote otedola bucknor, 20mill no b big deal to u con dash me na or loan me.....una go jst come online dey yan dust..

Cloths were originally made to cover your unclothedness not to show how wealthy you are.

Since it is a copied topic without even reference to the original, I will only say I am learning from the experiences of people. Whether you are a billionaire or a millionaire or a nobody, You must surely find yourself in business, and everyone--Kids, beggars, whosoever--has to be treated like gods.

Thank God for the books I've read. Gifted hands taught me how to treat folks. That secretary of Ben Carson is the reason I have without doubt believed that treating people well will equally help you in the long run.

I remember in the book when she tendered her resignation letter, Ben felt like the world was gonna collapse on him. What made this woman so unique? Just one thing--the way she handled patients who came into the hospital. Ever since I read that book and that woman, treating people nicely has been a part and parcel of me.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin(Not brothers though), Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg have an appearance of simplicity that stem from from their NATURE- they are techies/nerds. They will always appear 'simple' no matter how rich or poor they are. You should do a search of these people and see the kind of 'inanities' that these 'simple dressers' spend their money on. People derive their pleasures differently. My overall point is that we should not attack people who derive their own pleasures from 'dressing extravagantly' because a microscopic number of billionaires have decided to do otherwise; it has been the trend for the past few days and Nigerian celebrities are taking the most flak. I don't know much about Kate Middleton and I know that the Windsor family are not a billionaire family; they are millionaires at best. Dangote is always either on suit or that Hausa kind of dressing and there is nothing simple about any of that. You want make him wear chain?

I no get beef with u o! But, u make one mistake, d Windsor family are actually billionaires, in dollars, if not in pounds! The buckingham palace, its heirlooms and d vast acreage is worth a $3b+!

I appreciate your humour but there are few untruths in your comments. Every private jet owner is required by law to register their jets so there is no way anyone can have a jet in Nigeria and ''not announce'' it. With a simple google search anyone can get the names of all the jet owners in Nigeria. This is the law. Not everyone buys jets for business, some people buy jets for pleasure. Any last name you think you have must show up something tangible on forbes.com or fortune magazine else it won't count. So cross-check very well.

U actually read like one of those vain pple being discussed! Can't jets be registered in coys name? How many billionaires aint on forbes list/s?

That's why I like NL! grin what you don't know, you can come and argue wella. Soludo is a poor man, so are Sanusi and NOI, infact they are hoping Buhari offers them a job soon so they can afford schoolfees money. Please send them credit, that's why we don't hear from NOI she can't afford Airtel N1000 to browse and be posting on Twitter. Be believing everything you read in papers, eh. wink

Sambarry, one last one: my aunt's driver, tall big, goodlooking fellow who used to buy nice shirts and have his suit fitted to his body. Plus some ties her hubby gave him, he was set. He used to carry her jeep and go to Unilag to pick babes grin grin it was so wrong but once the girl sees fine boy and jeep and hears he works for a big company (technically true but...), na to spread legs be that. Chop and clean mouth fellow.

Evolg, it's our way to sum up people by appearance. It is what it is.

LOL.

Try hanging out in a lounge chilling, drinking and smoking cigar with your peers who you later found out are banking $2m -$5m bonus per year outside of their salaries. In the beginning, it was very humbling.

To think about it, Warren Buffet (the second richest man in the world) had only bought a new car in his life only in 2014.
