Another Intelligent Response From Professor Ishaq Akintola to CAN --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SULTAN HAS LOCUS STANDI TO DECLARE ID AL-KABIIR DAY The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Friday, September 2, 2016, announced that Muslims will observe the Id al-Kabiir on Monday, September 12. Reacting to the Sultan’s announcement, a coalition of 22 Christian groups in Nigeria led by National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) yesterday descended on the Sultan for announcing the Id al-Kabiir celebration day. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) is greatly perturbed by the recent trend in the advocacy of NCEF and its parent body, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). To say the least, their interventions are destructive, biased, confrontational, unnecessarily aggressive and openly hostile. . This is definitely not what we need while the country lies in the intensive care unit. CAN and NCEF are not thinking of Nigeria’s survival. They are singing war songs, heating up the polity and making hate speeches. . CAN has deliberately twisted the Sultan’s declaration of Id al-Kabiir day as if the latter had declared a public holiday. For the avoidance of doubts, there is a difference between declaration of Salah day and declaration of a public holiday. Only the Federal Government can declare a public holiday in the country while governors alone can declare it in the states. But the Sultan reserves the right to declare the day for a Muslim festival. CAN has no locus standi to question him. Or did the Sultan declare Christmas day? . The Sultan based the announcement on Saudi’s declaration of Sunday 11th September as Arafat Day. Normally, the following day should be Salah day. So the Sultan was right. He was even being proactive. The declaration is expected to guide government’s decision on which day or days to declare as public holiday. It was an act of patriotism. . The problem with CAN leadership is that they don’t even want to hear the voice of Muslims. They had monopolized the public scene and the media for so long that they arrogated to themselves all the publicity in the land. If CAN leadership has control over the sun in heaven, they will not allow it to shine on Muslims, neither will they allow the Muslims to use daylight. . But it is sheer wishful thinking. The wind has blown. We have seen the ruff of the hen. Nigerians now know the truth. Muslims also know that Christians generally are their brothers and compatriots. Many of them are friendly and pleasant, particularly those who practice the true teachings of Jesus (peace be upon him). They are amenable to friendship and positively disposed to peaceful coexistence. Christian leaders in recent times are the problem. They see the Sultan’s fingers in every pie. . CAN leadership is envious of the progress made by the Nigerian Muslim community under the able, visionary and dynamic leadership of Sultan Abubakar III. Unlike in the past when Muslim celebrations were characterized by controversy, the synergy in Islamdom in recent time has become a source of headache for CAN. Instead of rejoicing with the Sultan for his achievements, they marvel at his methodical and microscopic calculations. They wonder where his superior diplomatic acumen comes from. . As we round up, we assure Nigerians that Muslims are willing to peacefully coexist with their Christian neighbours. We reiterate that Nigerian Muslims have no hidden agenda. We have always told Nigerians what we want. We just want to be allowed to be Muslims. No more, no less. We urge Christians to ignore the hate speeches and incitements coming from CAN and NCEF leadership. . Let us join hands to rebuild our dear country. Let us come together to fight the ills of society. Our criticisms and commendations should be on the basis of an individual’s pedigree and not on his religious leaning. Let us eschew mutual suspicion and ill will. Let us celebrate our achievements together . Professor Ishaq Akintola Director Muslim Right Group 9 Likes 2 Shares |

Now what is wrong with the CAN? What's their goddamn business with Muslims and their celebrations? Did the sultan declared Monday a Christmas day or what? Nigeria Christians are extremists and that's the fact. Today the national stadium is used by Christians for different kind of congregations and worships, but I have never seen were any Muslim made any fuss about it. Reverse will be the case if a Muslim cleric decides to use the same stadium for one thing or another. Hypocrites will start screaming 'islamization'. 5 Likes |

We honestly need to be more religious tolerant in this country. Let Muslims see Christians as their brothers and Christians too see their Muslim counterparts as their brothers. Not until that is achieved, religion will always be our dividing tool in this country, and that will always cost us our national peace! 1 Like |

I am a Christian but surely CAN had excessive rush of blood to the head. Who declares easter? Does the federal government declare easter day? No. The CAN does and the government declares the public holiday. Same way the Sultan declares the ID el kabir while the Federal government declares the public holiday. That's exactly what happened. 4 Likes |

Foolish op, what's brilliant about the response filled with hate and acrimony...the most brilliant thing would have been not to respond and continue doing what they know it's the right thing but, No: they must challanges their rivals and put them in their place before any progress could be said to worth it. Christians, Muslims are all religious hypocrite and criminals.. The guy up there with red fonts..dont kill yourself for religion or allow hate for fellow human consume your soul.. Look at that man by your side, he is the God you have been searching left, right and centre for.. Treat him right and enjoy peace in this world and in the after life but, treat him wrong and have your damnation... fiizznation: 1 Like |

Only God understands the way the so called Christian leaders in this country think really, when I read that statement from the Christian leaders, I was really ashamed to be associated with such group. The statement can show either of two things : ignorance or being mischievous and I want to believe the latter is true. Most of our Christian leaders haven't met Christ as far as I'm concerned, as much as I know that Muslims also have their excesses, nothing can be worse than seeing Christians being deliberately provocative and making statements that will unnecessarily heat up the polity, that's highly unchrist - like 2 Likes |

What is intelligent in this? The simple question remains what right or authority does the Sultan or whatever he is bearing, have to declare holiday or Sallah Day? Assuming FG did not even declare it, does that mean Sultan would have unilaterally declare same for Muslim faithfuls, Mr. Ishaq Goatie. Is a constituted authority of the nation? Are we practising monarchical system of government? Sultan goofed because he is the king of Sokoto and leader of Muslims, but not FG. 2 Likes 1 Share |

CAN is really embarrassing most of us now a days truth need to be told, CAN is now playing another political opposition instead of guiding and praying for the Nation. We claimed we don't shed blood but what comes out from our mouth and attitude of some o called Christians kills more than sword, showing no difference from those Islamic extremist. We need to trace our step back because politician have really polluted Christendom 3 Likes 1 Share |

fiizznation:Just like every other unbiased Christian, I make bold to say CAN has been reduced to nothing but a tool in the hands of some sleazy politicians. I thought we had seen the worst under that drug addict and gun runner Oritsejafor but it appears this leadership would even be worse. What exactly concerns any Christians with a declaration of Salah celebrations?? Why are some people bent of promoting and instigating religious strife in this country?? Just like you said, the National stadium is being used to this day for all sort of Christian religious activities ranging from crusades to weekly services- but one a Muslim dares to go squat there to say his prayer, it would make headlines and some idiots would start screaming "islamization". This is utterly disgusting. I wonder what some people would have been saying today if they decide to declare Fridays work free days across the country just like Sundays. Smh. 1 Like |

Honestly am so ashamed as a christian, when i saw earlier the reaction to the declaration of sallah by the sultan, I said oh not again, the man never declared public holiday nah. To my fellow Christians who keep shouting islamization agenda, its high time they gave us statistics of Christians who have converted to islam since PMB became President or forever hold their peace. The disgrace and shame is becoming too much to bear. 3 Likes |
