Just before you go on to read this post, I thought I'd ask:
How do people generally deal with depression or those issues that 'oyinbo' people see therapists for, in this side of the world (Naija?)
If you're currently going through difficult stuff, how are you holding up or handling it?
Share with us please..your response may be the solution someone's been trying to find.

Now onto the matter:
I know some people will say this all sounds like oyinbo stuff, 'who Therapist don epp' you say?
But wait, just before you throw my suggestions out...

Someone's life may just depend on it
....and you may just be that Life saver!

This morning, it was on the news that someone committed suicide because he didn't have anymore money to pay rents and feed his family, meanwhile we're still grieving with the family of the banker who shot himself because he couldn't pay back that money and the bank was on his neck.

Domestic violence hasn't been on the low, people! (see: NOI polls). There are still many scary stories, and what's worse? we hear the economic situation in Naija is becoming a very strong factor.
A hungry man is an angry man shey?
(There's no excuse for domestic violence biko nu).

There are many more sad scenarios, but this post isn't about making you cry or saying 'eyah pele'
IT IS ABOUT HOPE! IT IS ABOUT FINDING A WAY OUT...

If you feel soo sad and that all the pressures (no money, no job, no hope on the horizon) are choking you in every time you think about them, or you're not feeling very safe with your husband or boyfriend (this could be vice-versa too) or 'uncle' or madam sef, because someone's beating you to a pulp or emotionally shredding you to pieces or there's rape, some critical life issue or that addiction (porn, drugs, to name a few) that keeps you feeling totally hopeless and helpless?

There's an Expert Therapist you can speak to, for FREE!!! smiley

Mr. Leke Alder to the rescue.

If you've ever read any of the Jack and Jill letters then you know he really cares about young people and relationships and matters of the head and heart, in short, everything! So, in response to the maaaaany emails folks send after reading these letters, he worked with his team to create an ONLINE THERAPY PLATFORM for people to book sessions with Professional Therapists who graciously offer hours of their time to talk and help people.

Take it from me, these therapists are downright professional, caring and sure know their stuff! You'll leave the session with a reason to live, you'll find strength to make the right decisions you need to make and you'll be soo glad you made that call!

Thing is, it may not be you..someone else may need this post and the link to the website
(see here: http://jacknjillive.com/therapy/
Make that call, if you really need to talk;
Or share this post and the link if there's a friend, brother, mom, dad, sister or aunt who may need to have that talk..

Depression or suicide are not oyinbo terms oh..
Life savers aren't always dressed in capes.

Ps: If you haven't ever read any of Leke Alder's letters? Where have you been sef? Well..head over to his twitter handle (@LekeAlder) and thank me later!

This is an advert I guess, and if I'm given an opportunity to see a therapist for free...NO

Sure I will go... have suffered enough extreme emotional scars and lots of suppressed memories growing up and almost all my life...
I manage it by mostly isolating myself from people to avoid more negative energies that would hurt me further.
Though my life seems perfect now, but I think I need to heal from the past by venting to someone. (A therapist)

Lol. Abeg share what the 'swiftest way' would look like for someone who has been laid off work three times in the last five years and is wondering what's wrong with her sef! Lately, she's been having thoughts of 'ending it all'

Maybe these American movies have spoiled market for therapists, No?
Many people think all therapists do is get you lie on the couch and just be talking.
Dunno.
What do y'all think?

If they continue laying you off then it's time to start your own business. I don't know what a pity jamboree will achieve except of course the shrink is offering a new job. Am not here to discredit you, all am saying is that I won't see a shrink if it's free because I know how to find my solutions and swift too. Nothing to back and forth about.

I want to be sure that I'm not reading you wrong: you think seeing a therapist =a pity jamboree?
I think movies do great injustice to them (and their roles)..
*shrugs
But what if starting a business or getting a new job is not the solution, or one that merely scrapes the surface of the troubles she has? What if she's the one messing up those jobs?

Well, maybe it might work for some, just not for me.

Great thread!! These are important sectors on which we Nigerians ignore. We need to have therapist and psychologist around to cure the depressing time we live in.

I will check Leke Alder out on your recommendation

I wouldn't see a therapist because I do not see the rationale of going to see someone who pretends to know how I feel or pretends to care about me, and also, there's too much guess work involved in that practice.

Hello, I'm sorry it took me a while to reply.
The post I put out was for therapy- people who need to speak with professional Therapists, because I had read quite a number of stories of people needing that kind of help.
However, If you have a post (with evidence for the surgery), I could help spread the word and we'd help in ways we can.
