Lushore1: Can you honestly claim that there was any significant palm oil production in the SW? Why was cocoa then always refrenced as the main cash crop from the sw ? I have never heard of palm oil being the main cash crop from the west so please stop spewing trash. 9 Likes |

jneutron4000:This is simply not true. Read the report. Good fom the East were shipped from the east ,Calabar,Port harcourt etc , there are previous reports before 1914 where this is very clear so no not tell ridiculous lies. How did palm oil get to Lago from Calabar? There was not even a Niger Bridge in 1914 yet one clown is posting funny pictures of antique trucks. Even from Warri in the Midwest goods were shipped from Forcados/Burutu . Rather than guessing spend time to educate yourselves Southern Nigeria before 1906 referred to Eastern Nigeria region and some parts of the Midwest and a part of Western Cameroon They were administered separately before 1906 under different Governors. This is the report for 1900 let us not pretend that reports started in1914 http://libsysdigi.library.illinois.edu/ilharvest/Africana/Books2011-05/3064634/3064634_1899_1900_southern_nigeria/3064634_1899_1900_southern_nigeria_opt.pdf While Colony of Lagos refers to Lagos ,Western Nigeria and some parts of the Midwest 9 Likes 1 Share |

SairikiDurri: Bros why are u like this? Or are you not the "OP" again? no one claimed that southwest produced more palm oil products more than SS or SE. It was you "OP" that clearly stated in the first page that niger delta is feeding the rest of the country through palm oils, u later added eastern region and someone else added midwest. Even though there were no evidence to suggest that monies generated from this period were shared with any other region, most of these incomes were simply going into british government account. 6 Likes |

Lushore1: I re-edited the title because I later found out that the SE was the largest producer of Palm oil. Midwest is now part of Niger Delta! Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Abia, Bayelsa and Calabar were part of Eastern Region and are today considered part of Niger Delta. So what is your problem with me renaming it to reflect the true geo-political makeup of post civil war Nigeria? And I see no reason why the changing of the title should be an issue since you yorubas hate the Niger Delta more than the SE. 9 Likes |

OBAGADAFFI: Nonesense. Palm oil cost crashed after WW2 and not in the early 1900's. The report coincided with the period where Palm oil was booming. So if in 1914, SW oil production was negligible is it in the recession years of palm in post ww2 that sw oil palm increased? How can you guys be so shameless in your lies? 8 Likes |

So 1914 statistics till when oil was discovered shows that SS/SE has been entirely feeding Nigeria as said by the OP judging from his comments. See here is the thing, can we have statistics of 1940 - 1965 to show which region contributes the highest GDP in Nigeria? Cocoa and groundnut were the mainstream of our economy as facts can be seen on Google search. These people, una no dey tire? The 1914 and perhaps oil boom sales from your region of which derivatives were and still been paid to your corrupt leaders who ate all the money to themselves hereby building mansion in Lagos and abroad is not our doing. 7 Likes 1 Share |

SairikiDurri: Significantly palm oil production in southwest? YES!. Though maybe not in the same level of production as other region, but just because you dont know about this doesnt mean it didnt happen. Cocoa was and still referenced as the main cash crop in southwest region because you can still see the economics contribution of cocoa all over southwest...example how awolowo managed to provides and built many things through incomes from cocoa.....such as cocoa house, free education, radio station and many housing and industrial park. 9 Likes |

APCHaram:the value of pounds in 1913 compared to now is very different due to inflation, plus Nigeria didn't have a population of 180million citizens. So yes, palm oil could feed the country with other commodities we exported. And to top it off, we were not even an import dependent country back then So £1,000,000 in 1913 = £103,000,000 in 2016 Which was more than enough for the population of that time. 4 Likes

How would you explain the fact that on both occasions that Nigeria found herself in recessions was under one man called Buhari? He is the only Nigerian President dead or alive that has achieved this disgraceful feat. http://www.elombah.com/index.php/opinion/10007-muhammadu-buhari-recession-it-s-1984-all-over-again If you blame Jonathan or PDP for 2016 recession under Buhari, who would you blame for 1984 Recession under the same man Buhari? If you want Nigeria to witness a hatrick of recession then vote for Buhari in 2019 and watch your generation die of hunger. 2 Likes |

Igboid:I am not disputing large amounts of palm oil production in the eastern region of the southern protectorate. but prior to 1951, there was no regional autonomy. the crown had exclusive ownership of every & all resources. basically, the report the OP put up was not meant for us rather an accountability report to the british HQ. Every soil exploited& resources produced was not intended towards any of the regions but instead the interests of the british including every block/ track laid. we had regional autonomy in 1951, when every man was for himself, had federalism in 1959 when we had the DISTRIBUTABLE POOL ACCOUNT at the time cocoa reigned supreme followed closely by groundnut& cotton. palm oil market had taken a sharp decline. Ask yourself why Zik was obsessed with SW,if SE was that bbouyant. I'd tell you the reason palm oil recorded huge sales in 1913/14....when we we revisit this or similar topic anytime soon. until we learn to hold the right people responsible, there won't be any progression for us. See this guy now making noise bout Niger Delta feeding the whole nation. yu are making the wrong noise man. Of all the afore listed raw materials, how many do we still export? why not hold the government responsible fr this deterioation. the fight is not against yur fellow compatriots from other regions of the country. It is against the government past and present that is playing this tribal politics tune, knowing you'll dance to it. Please EMANCIPATE yourself and see beyond 6 Likes |

SairikiDurri: You ruined this thread from the biginning bro, expecially when you started talking about how Niger delta was feeding everyone from palm oil. Theres still no evidence to suggest this infact most of the incomes generated during this period was going into the UK royal families account and probaby use in treating leprosy cases all over "Onisha"...lol. "Nearly 90 per cent, of the cases of leprosy in the Southern Provinces occur on the River Niger in the neighbourhood of Onitsha" 4 Likes 1 Share |

@ op, APCharam or whatever your name is: kindly tell me the reason your brought up this thread?? Is it to prove that one region feeds the entire nation? If it is then I have a message for you; If you are married and you the man gets a job that pays you 200million annually, do you come home to brag to your wife that you re earning so much and that YOUR family is poor without you? Same applies to the woman. So I don't understand all this rant about region. When nigerian won bronze in the just concluded olympics may be kelechi iheanacho should have said the money from the japanese mogul should come to him alone since he scored the goal. The earlier every region recognises that we are alll irrespective of tribe married and remain a family called NIGERIA, the better for us. We will remain one. 2 Likes |
