Turkeys first armed combat drone

When are we going to build a large sized MALE UAV. We're long overdue for one.

Beautiful drone from Turkey.

In future for radically improving the LUH’s hot-and-high operating parameters and enhancing flight safety, an option that could well be utilised in future under the auspices of the US-India Defence Trade and Technology Initiative (DTTI), under which HAL will be required to form an industrial partnership with US-based AVX Aircraft Company for incorporating the latter’s patented modification kit into the LUH’s airframe.

With its unique blend of co-axial rotors and dual ducted-fans, the AVX kit offers greater aerodynamic and fuel efficiency, speed, range, payload, improved hover-out-of-ground effect (HOGE), and the ability to operate in hotter temperatures and at higher altitudes than any of today’s conventional light helicopters. It also reduces brown-out conditions in the landing configuration since, thanks to the ducted-fans, the helicopter can use a 5-degree nose-down or even-level approach to the landing zone. This increases flight safety by giving the pilot a greatly improved view of the landing zone.

@Nemesis2u: Will like you to explain more the advantages the OH-58D/AVX design has over the conventional helicopter design?

From what I've seen, the fastest way to develop indigenous platforms is a colabo between NAF experts and what they choose to call "civilian engineers", they proved to be effective when they weaponized those alpha jets.

advantages will be (depending on the base helicopter aerodynamic profile)
1.increase in speed , it should offer 20+ % increase.
2.increase in range , again it should offer 20+ % increase .
3.increase in fuel efficiency , it should offer 30% increase in fuel efficiency.
4.increase in endurance, almost double.
5. increase in higher operational altitudes.
6. better operability in hotter environments.
7.higher top speed
8.higher cruise speed
9.better hover capability
10.increase in safety during flight operations.
etc

Drak Sword?

No reliable information on it.
Some rumour say it could become the first mach 3 supersonic UAV in China .but I hink F-16 may have already had drone version.

QF -16 is basically a TARGET DRONE for aerial combat training made from F16 salvaged from the boneyards.

since f16 is a fly-by-wire aircraft, all that is needed to turn it into an unmanned target aircraft is to change the pilot input from a control stick and throttle to a telemetry receiver that will get commands from the ground. plus some modification of the FCS (Flight Control System).

also some other modifications are there according to user needs .

the guns and radar are removed , but the self protection suite which includes flares, chaffs dispensers are left on the aircraft to provide a realistic engagement training.

it provides a realistic training to rookies for honing their combat skills because the QF -16 can be controlled/made to challenge the attacking aircraft in an undetermined reactionary manner and not in a predetermined run of the mill manner.

the same was done with retired F-4 phantoms and even starfighters.

Yea it's true. It was used with the F35 few weeks ago. Heard one was shot down by the F35 with the AIM-120.

A UAV achieving Mach 3? Obviously a rumour.
The X-43 achieved mach 7 tho but I will consider it as a flying weapon.

Miniature Air Launched Decoy (MALD) is a small unmanned air-launched flight vehicle designed and manufactured by Raytheon Missile Systems. The vehicle is currently used by the US Air Force (USAF) and the US Navy.

MALD is a flexible and modular system that has the potential to keep aviators and aircraft out of harm’s way. MALD is an expendable air-launched flight vehicle that looks like a U.S. or allied aircraft to enemy integrated air defense systems (IADS).

The U.S. and its allies can confuse and deceive enemy IADS by sending a formation of MALDs into hostile airspace. MALD weighs less than 300 pounds and has a range of approximately 500 nautical miles (575 statute miles). After it is launched from its host aircraft, MALD flies a preprogrammed mission.

In addition to protecting valuable aircraft, MALD offers counter air operations to neutralize air defense systems that pose a threat to U.S. and allied pilots.

The MALD air vehicle offers superior protection for the aviators and aircraft against air defence systems in combat operations. It also increases airborne electronic attack missions of the US and allied pilots in the battlespace.

The turbojet-powered modular and programmable MALD is launched from fighters as a decoy. It is used to perform counter air operations to inactivate air defence systems.

T-20 is a medium range tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system designed and manufactured in the US by Arcturus-UAV for the United States armed forces.

The unmanned air-launched vehicle has a length of approximately 3.04m and weighs less than 300lb. The range of the MALD vehicle is around 500nmi.

The flexible and swing-wing vehicle degrades enemy radars and integrated air defence systems by accurately duplicating all combat flight profiles and radar signatures of the US and allied aircraft in the battlefield.

MALD-J is the jammer variant of the basic decoy, and the first ever stand-in jammer to enter production. The unmanned MALD-J navigates and operates much closer than conventional EW to the victim radar when jamming the electronics, allowing aviators and aircraft to stay out of harm’s way. And, it is able to loiter in the target area for an extended time period – plenty of time to complete the mission.

MALD-J can operate alone or in pairs, but is designed to work with and leverage other electronic warfare platforms.
